Did anyone see the Today Show this morning about the obese brain?
Christinamo7 replied to nolady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
there are just too many people who tell me their heads were not in the game in that first year, but that their sleeve was right there waiting for them when they got ready to make me believe that it is wasted. some things may go back to normal, but you never have a normal size stomach again. it's just not quite that black and white from what I can tell. but I do agree with making healthy habits, and a way of eating that is healthy and you can live with! -
check your plan, all the plans I have seen allow sugar free pudding and if you add protein powder you can help meet that goal too.
-
so I always think of that new stomach as if you had an external stapled wound. would you rub hard food into it? of course not! chewed up food? NO! this is why you are on liquids during this time. at a week I was on full liquids and found sf puddings with Protein, Jello, unsweetened applesauce with protein to be filling. I was also allowed Protein shakes. just imagine that healing wound line and be kind to it. at one month I was cleared (medically speaking) to eat any kind of foods. not that any food is approved for me for weight loss - but that any food will not HURT my healing stomach. go slow, be kind.

Help! 10 weeks out and I stopped losing!

google 3 week stall. it's completely normal. you will get back to loosing again, but it will continue to slow down as you get smaller, closer to your goal. -
Post-op diet with real food?
Christinamo7 replied to anonmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
so the practice I use wants us off Protein shakes as an every day product as soon as possible. I was on Clear Liquids in the hospital. Full liquids for two weeks, then soft foods (refried Beans, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, soft flaky fish - this kind of thing) and then at one month begin introducing regular foods - ground meat, crock pot chicken breast, that sort of thing, adding veg as tolerated. As tolerated is going to depend on how quickly your swelling goes down. but I was on 90% regular food by 6 weeks out. I have a Protein shake (I like the unjury chocolate powder with fairlife milk and Fiber added) when I need a grab and go Breakfast, or if my protein total is low due to a busy day, and I have a protein bar I like (power crunch triple chocolate) when I am wanting a candy bar or chocolate. but most of the time it is all real food. -
I THOUGHT I was sleeved...
Christinamo7 replied to leebick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
most of the time this is just a recording error - many of the forms used in medical records have a drop down menu. At the hospital where I work if you request your records they are mailed, not handed over, but the staff would be happy to get them to you - so be aware that the medical records staff will just be following whatever protocol - don't be alarmed if they can't just hand them over. last year after one of my cat scans the report said the uterus was normal. I had recently had a hysterectomy and I made my oncologist have the radiologist review my report and update it. they were glad to do so, they had just clicked the wrong thing on the drop down menu. I hope that is all this is, but you do need to know for sure. I do not know why the swallow test instead of a scan? but whatever, if they need to do a test to know for sure you should NOT have to pay for it. other than that, I hope you are feeling well and recovering nicely from your surgery. -

VIT. B6 Toxicity and Regular Blood work/experts
Christinamo7 replied to Pescador's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
at 3 months and 6 months my b6 and 12 were *very* high, so for now I have to check labels to make sure I am not consuming a lot of food with added B Vitamins. For me I think the problem was I was having a Vitamin Water zero daily - and so now they are an occasional treat, and I had none for a couple of weeks. they are watching me close and will check my levels again at 9 months. So I would advise to make sure nothing you are eating or drinking has added B vitamins. I hear a lot of deficiencies - so this was not a problem I expected to have. -
4 hours kayaking down the Duck river with my best friend today is a very good way to burn a vacation day. red as a lobster, all worn out with a happy grin on my face.
-
it was a wonderful way to spend the day and @Valentina - a year ago I could have done the kayaking part but nothing, I mean NOTHING else. I got up, walked the dog, took the junior to school - packed my snacks, dropped off garbage, loaded and unloaded equipment, carried to the river, kayaked 4 hours, packed everything up, went to dinner, to grocery store, took David to work and picked him up. There is NO way I would have had this kind of stamina pre surgery. I am very thankful.

Cheated on my preop liquid diet, will the dr cancel my surgery?
Christinamo7 replied to ginaandy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
pre op diets vary so much from doctor to doctor, and also depending on the individual patients needs. You can be sure that they will only postpone surgery if they do not think it is safe for you. talk to your team and let us know how you are doing. -
I've never had any trouble with any kind of Beans - interesting to me that some have trouble with bean skins.
-
no, I do not think this is normal. Were you seen at one week? do you have a one month follow up in the next week? I would be letting your team know just exactly how bad it is and see what they say. it could just be that your stomach seam is slow to heal, but it could be something else. tests may be needed to find out which.
-
if it makes you feel any better, I don't like my local support group. you've got us all here, so come and sit a while. hope to hear you have your surgery date soon! becareful to that foot - I hope it heals up good.

sometimes I have a diet coke with splenda - or a cola from whole foods with stevia. don't seem to have any problems but it does take me a LONG time to finish it.

NSV: Massage
Christinamo7 replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
that's great! I've studied massage therapy for about 30 years. have plans to go to school for it when Margaret graduates high school. I never would have had the stamina before my surgery. -
wonderful feeling! this is just great! I had my surgery - went to the seminar right after being diagnosed with diabetes. my recent A1c was 5.4 - when I recently saw my staff did not take my blood sugar because diabetes is not on my chart anymore. I am also off BP meds. everything else is gravy. big time congrats!

Shakes without food
Christinamo7 replied to XmeghannstarX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only had to fast the day before surgery and then was on Clear liquids in the hospital (you really DON'T want anything else at that time) and then full liquids for 2 weeks. there were a lot of choices for me during that time. if you are nervous, or if you actually have problems with how you are feeling make sure you are with a team that you feel comfortable talking to so that they can help you make good choices and not feel miserable. -
ok. this makes me want to get up and do something! https://www.facebook.com/Upworthy/videos/1401403739900480/ *editied* rats. the link shows ALL of them. I mean the one in the gym with the vet.

Diet after Sleeve (fear of my own sabotage)
Christinamo7 replied to stefanie0804's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
. I can tell you that I was completely on board and committed to every attempt to loose weight before. But I got HUNGRY. How is the sleeve different? I am not inappropriately hungry anymore and loosing the fat so because body fat is hormonally active I will not have all of that influencing my choices. One last thought. If I am not successful I am going to go down fighting. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Anyone starting weight at 200 lbs? Help :)
Christinamo7 replied to asolanom's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
. I understand completely. When you are petite your weight can seem "low" to some but your BMI can actually be high. I am around 5'2" so I was 238 at surgery. Feels real good to be off medications. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
