  1. yes, there is a risk, but the vast majority do not have complications. only you can decide if it is worth the risk. I knew obesity would kill me, sooner rather than later. not much math to do there, it was a guarantee. so, I took the risk and so far, the worst thing I've had to deal with is constipation and the hots for my husband. and everything about my health and day to day life is improved. I love my sleeve.
  2. you can start trying to drink more now, and get used to it. Hydration is so important to our body's proper function. Add lemon slices, or cucumber if you like, and I also love the Vitamin Water zero lemonaid especially. Fairlife milk, and Protein shakes count...... but the more you can meet that goal and exceed it a bit the better I think you'll feel.
  3. I was! and I'm pleased with my progress, but I am still in early days.

    Loneliness

@@choicemun I was ANGRY at 3-4 weeks and had some depression after that. I am not normally a subdued person. it is the hormone dump. I am trying to be gentle with myself, and others around me - and I know my usual sparkling personality will re-emerge- and filtering any important decisions through people I trust.

    Water Retention

I have had edema since my middle 30's and take a prescription for it. I am hoping that I will be able to come off the meds, but have tried all the dietary changes in the past with no change in the edema so we will see.
  6. is it bad to pretend like you don't recognize someone you don't like?

she's gone. whew. and she didn't call my attention to the fact that I know her, so maybe she doesn't like me either, lol! that amuses me for some reason.

Of course not, that is called Healthy Boundaries. No one in life has to answer, apologize, justify themselves about anything they do. Now, granted, you take a risk of them recognizing you-then you of course be polite and say, "Oh, I *thought* that was you, I didn't recognize you, you look great..gotta go." :)

  7. Botox can be life changing. I feel it is very safe in the hands of a good doctor. I have a friend who has a problem with vocal cords treated, and where I used to work we had a doctor come in to treat spasticity in patients with disability. some had their arms, hands or legs drawn up and when treated could function more normally and in once instance I know, walk again. I am thinking of having the doctor here treat between my eyebrows, but my 11 issue is very mild, so we'll see. I'm already here everyday anyway, so I'd just have to come up with the $$$

    Surgery Thursday.

    how did it go?
  9. great news! I will be looking forward to watching your journey and seeing the progress!
  10. for retinol, I like the retinol res Q from the alpha hydroxy line. I just order it online, and as an aside, their massage oil is lovely too. I've used it off and on since my mid 30's, when the work of raising my wild boys started to make me look older than I wanted to.
  11. (I assume you mean "dermabrasion"?) Any specific kinds of chemical peels you've used? And where do you have practitioners who are good at this? Should I go to a plastic surgeon's office? Or are strip mall spas reliable places to have this work done? I really like the philosophy microdermabrasion peel, which you can do at home and might be a good place to start.
  12. I can't tell you how relieved I am that Friday is finally here..........

@Christinamo7 I had a pretty good work week, I am just 'done' with doctors appts. I did 4 within the last 13days. I have a copy on a CD of the CT, too scared to look. Been a rough 2-3 wks of aches and pains. I am going to call WLS Dr office after lunch and see what/when I will hear results. Thanks for asking:D

I work for the same hospital system I use for most of my appointments and so I am always rushing to look before they call me. good news or bad news I always want to *know* please let me know how you are if you are comfortable sharing. I have my next CT scan in July. not too crazy about that test. I just have to close my eyes and practice my relaxed breathing!

  13. I have always been fascinated by those "lifestyle lift" type of face lifts. We do a good amount of botox at the office I work at, and I think the results are fantastic - our doctors are good at doing the shots near the eyes, for cosmetic as well as some medical reasons. I am looking forward to hearing how this progresses for you!
  14. if anyone had told me 6 months ago that I would happy with having lima beans and cottage cheese for dinner, I wouldn't have believed it. :-)

wow. allergic to lima beans? breathing is important, I'd better eat your share, but tomorrow. I am stuffed tonight. I have that kind of reaction to bee stings - very unpleasant.

Enjoy my share! Any kind of bean---especially soybeans have sent me to the ER more times than I have fingers and toes. Thankfully not in about 10yrs. I've finally mastered the label reading thing. :) You'd be surprised what those crafty devils will put soybeans into. Even my beloved tuna fish has soybeans in it. NOT FAIR!!! Anyway, getting my protein gets a wee bit more bothersome, but I don't miss what hospitalizes me. :) Enjoy my beans, friend. :)

    People and their opinions

yes! to what everyone has said. for me, because I had a cancer scare last year, that is still technically unresolved - I will give people a little more grace if I get to that point. it was very touching to know that people care, but ultimately I will let them know that I am working with my doctors to determine when, and how to stop loosing. Goodness. I can't even really believe I could get there next year?!? what an exciting problem to have.

    Pain

yes! and please do take the meds if you need them. the more you are able to (slowly) walk and rest, and sip Water the quicker it will pass. welcome to the club! it's a wild ride.

    Glasses

I need to get new glasses, I know my prescription has changed. right now going between my "new" glasses, my "old glasses" and readers. not happy with any of them. I know from working at an eye doctor office I needed to wait until my blood sugars had been stable for 6 weeks, and they have been not only stable but completely normal! which is probably why I am not happy with my glasses. Question is - what about the hormone dump issue - should I wait until that settles down? Please chime in if you have any experience with this or opinions.

Help? How do you know your full?

I used to get burpy or hiccup, so now I measure out way less food and learned to eat even slower. sometimes my nose will get drippy.
  20. I have to say, even if I only lost 60% my health is in MUCH better shape than if I had not had surgery and I would still consider myself a success. foot. I've lost 30% now and I already consider myself to be in much better health, off diabetes meds, almost off blood pressure meds, active and involved. I think in a situation where people have to pay cash they probably spend even more time evaluating if they are ready to make the lifestyle changes needed for permanent success. this can work in your favor. I have friends who went that route.

    Spicy food sensitivity

I don't either.....usually. I guess we are lucky that way. I'd hate to give up on hot sauces and spicy rubs. I don't know about you - but with so much junk removed from my diet I am enjoying the spicy, complex flavors even more now than I did before. I love to play with food, and add a little of this or that to make an old recipe more flavorful.

    Need some recipes? Please

sometimes I make a "big mac" salad. a very little salad (I like romaine lettuce) chopped to small pieces, 1/3 cup ground beef/turkey on top, shredded cheddar, a drop of thousand island dressing (seriously, very little needed for the flavor) 1 dill pickle slice, chopped, 1 green onion chopped and sprinkle some sesame seeds on top. you really do kinda get the feeling of a big mac sammy but much better, and in keeping with amounts of food we're supposed to be eating. sometimes I take that same ground meat combo, add taco seasoning and some black Beans and top with cheese and a dollop of sour cream. sure, I don't have it with chips, but hey it's just as good off the fork!

    Need some recipes? Please

last night I steamed some asparagus and also sauteed some chicken in olive oil with garlic and salt and pepper. when it was almost finished I added to the pan 1/3 of a can of hard cider, and let that cook down. once it was reduced to about 1/3 I added 1 tsp of honey and 1 tsp of butter to finish the pan sauce. this was for 3 chicken breasts cut in half, I think. 1 half chicken breast is all I can eat, I eat the small end, hub eats the larger end. it was fabulous, easy and fast. last week I did chicken breasts sauteed the same way, and then I added 1/4 of a jar of spag sauce, and topped with Parmesan cheese. both recipes reheat well if you slice the chicken before putting it up in the fridge. so makes excellent lunches if you can keep the kids out of it. we had that with canned carrots. which I do not like. but in the spag sauce they were ok. family had Pasta with their serving, but I did not. @@KindaFamiliar has some more, interesting menu items, perhaps he will share. he seems to be good at putting flavors together.
