    Scale sabotage

Even if you weigh a lot. I do. You have no control really. As long as you follow the program I think weighing at appointments is a more sane way to go if you can restrain yourself. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Are you going to use raw veg? I love my vitamix. I don't know as I would spend that much just for that purpose but I use it for other things. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    When to tell employer?

I applied for FMLA once I got insurance approval. The FMLA was approved in a day or two, I was scheduled and then I told them I would be out for surgery.

    Personal Questions for after surgery

as to 1. I think the best thing to do is walk walk walk after surgery. I didn't have a whole lot of gas pain, I was walking very slowly for 10-15 minutes each hour I was awake in the days following surgery. I started once I got in my hospital room. I didn't feel like leaving my room so I just walked back and forth across the room. 2. constipation has been my only real struggle, and I take a stool softener, then I added a milk of magnesia pill, and benefiber. I need all three right now to keep things moving along. 3. anytime you feel like it, that has never caused a problem for me. but then, I also use straws without issue either. 4. I made bone broth for me and sugar free Jello using regular Gelatin and ocean spray diet cran grape, which I also loved over ice. I liked the outshine popsicles, and they were wonderful. 5. I didn't need a wedge pillow, and I would not get one unless you think you might like to use it later. 6. I thought I'd be sipping Water for the rest of my life. not sure how I got that impression, but I am glad I was wrong about it! I am looking forward to hearing how you do with your surgery. It's one of the best things that ever happened to me!

What do I tell my son?

it is hard to know what kids are ready for or will understand. you are the best authority on your own child. my kids are older, they've been worried for my health, I told them exactly what I was doing. A few did not think I should, but they respected me and I think they were mostly worried about the surgery it's self. Now almost 3 months out they are very supportive and thankful to have their mom looking forward to a long life of better health. but then, I've been open about it so there is no one to tell.

    Constipation

milk of magnesia is my friend. this has been the only real "issue" I've had post surgery. ICK. so it's a stool softener for me daily, MOM and benefiber. keeps things moving along.

    Words of wisdom welcome!

If you want to you can learn to use other things than food to help with emotions. A counselor can help you and we can also give you ideas here. I am a stress cleaner. you can always tell how challenging my life is by how clean the bathroom/kitchen are. Walking helps me deal with depression. You can do this!
  18. saw a friend for the first time today since Christmas time. I am down about 50 # since then. He was stunned by the changes, and that was a very nice reaction. Encourages me to keep on with all the hard work.

yes it is! especially when most of my friends see me on a daily or weekly basis. they are happy to see my health improve, and my best friend is eagerly anticipating us wearing the same size clothes, but it is great for that "big" effect of someone who hasn't seen you in a while.

    My wonderful gastric sleeve!

congratulations! I can not tell you how much I am eagerly awaiting the day I can say the same thing.
  20. first off I don't believe you could even possibly eat enough to gain 3 pounds of FAT, so do not worry. if you could be constipated or something that could easily be due to that and Water weight. The first few weeks are your body healing and recovering and your body can do weird things during that time. keep with your plan, and you will loose. secondly, we all have the fear that we will be that one person for whom it doesn't work. of course we do! everything else we have tried has not worked. but you will get there. your only job right now is to sip water and get Protein. what kinds of things are you able to have? I was on full liquids then.
  21. we just got finished having a bunch of people over to Celebrate my daughter graduating tomorrow. I had a blast cooking and serving and enjoying everyone's company. My Dad did the grilling, I did the prep. I would say maybe the first month or so when you are seriously recovering from surgery you will want to nest in, and I am not really interested in baking yet - but yes, you will still enjoy all of that. I love playing with food and making new recipes. I think you will also. and yes to everything @@Dub said above.

    Protein, Protein, Protein

I hope every surgeon has the goal of making sure you heal and don't have any complications post-op. A balanced diet is a great goal down the road, but right after surgery protein and fluids are critical --- even if it is hard, or you don't have an appetite, or don't like the taste, etc. One 11 oz Protein shake spread out over three days and less than 8 oz of Fluid a day is not enough for anyone post-op. I can't imagine any surgeon advocating that diet as a good strategy for anyone. SMH But if I dare to try to drink 2 shakes, and enough protien to reach 70 or 80g I feel sick like I wana puke! I just can't do it... not right now at least. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App in the early days it is all just sip sip sip and walk walk walk. you just keep trying each day and then one day the swelling goes down, and it gets a lot easier.

    Protein, Protein, Protein

Discussion is one thing. The OP basically berrated anyone who dared to not get the Protein that HER team recommends. Thats not discussion Oh, well I see your perspective. I don't think she was berating - she stated her feelings strongly, but some of those posts yesterday, YEESH. scary. I felt a certain amount of distress, and I reckon she did too.

What should I be doing ?

What I did at that point was focus on good habits. I could only walk 20 minutes 3-5 times a week. do a little yoga. I started paying attention to what I ate. Worked on getting plenty of Water. I gave up soda. I did have some foods I knew would either not be on the menu again or would not be the same. That's normal! I did not have a pre-op diet, as my liver was small enough. Sounds like you are on the right track!
