  1. I am in desperate need of a good massage. Guess I need to hit another milestone, eh?
  2. for fat reduction? nothing except loosing weight overall. and, I think there is some research out there on foods that tend to add to belly fat, but I am pretty sure that the bariatric food plan already avoids them. but to tighten and tone, I'd say swimming laps, yoga and pilates. very effective.
  3. I have that nagging feeling that I am forgetting to do something important............ but no clue what it is.

    Tooth Extractions week before Surgery

my first thought is that it would be better before surgery than after when you have a wound in your stomach, but you certainly need to make your bariatric team and dental team aware of both procedures and see what they say. the possible ick released from the teeth could be serious, and we want you to come through surgery with flying colors! let us know!

I think I should have learned something

I am glad you enjoyed. I don't think I will *ever* get over having to move away from my Michigan. I go back as often as I can. I miss my beaches! I am from the Traverse City area, but have spent plenty of time in Lansing and Ann Arbor.

    NSV shout outs

and that 2 XL doesn't look like it is going to fit for long. how exciting. I can remember having to pre-stretch clothing especially when new. I finally had to break down and buy some new pants last week as I was looking like a hobo walking in the neighborhood. I was wearing XL petite, so I bought some L petite and when they came I thought - there is no way these are going to fit. what am I supposed to do it the XL are way too big, and the L are too small? and my husband laughed (he likes to live dangerously) and told me I might be surprised and I should just try them on. I still thought he just wanted to see me shimmy into tight pants, but I tried them on and to my GREAT surprise they fit perfectly. It's a great feeling! now. next on the agenda I have to replace some work pants because I have to tuck in my shirts now to keep them from falling off.

Is there a way to break a stall

for me also - when I had a stall I tracked my food on the same program where I track my workouts and saw that I needed to add a snack - calories were a good bit too low. I find my calorie deficit for the day needs to be right around 800 or else I stop loosing.

    Need RNY but...

I can't speak to a lot of your issues except to say I have taken a cinnamon supplement for over 10 years to try to stave off metabolic syndrome. I found out when I broke my leg badly (both bones above the ankle, spiral break) that the cinnamon did more to help control the pain than the prescription pain medication. I also find that dried cherries, cherry juice or a cherry pill can be very effective for this kind of pain. my mother uses dried cherries to treat arthritis.
  9. so far nothing. at first when cleared for all foods I couldn't handle steak or venison, but now at 3 months tolerate them without a problem.

my sister came for a visit at about one month out so we went out.

    Pre-opp and fluids.

no, it works quite the opposite actually. your body will hold on to Water like mad if it is not getting enough, but when you drink enough it lets it go. during preop and before you are likely getting a good amount of fluids from food sources, but after the surgery you simply eat very little food. give it a try, you might give your weight loss a boost!

    Dyeing hair before surgery?

I use the non permanent hair color - the kind that washes out in 28 days or so? but I am just enhancing my natural color, not changing to a new color. I don't know if that would be something you are interested in, but I have not had any problems with it at all.

I think I should have learned something

MI, Michigan? you lucky duck! I am so very homesick. I think your future plans are spot on, and I appreciate you sharing with us, because it is so easy to think we are the "only ones" going through it. I have had 4 crazy weekends in a row. The week days are also crazy due to being short staffed and so I am wearing 3 hats right now. it will take them 3 months to get anyone hired for the (3 out of an 8 person team) vacancies. I have to plan the food/drinks on the weekend or it is very hard for me to stay on track. This weekend my plans are to stay home in a coma, and walk and recover. I hope you can do the same soon! and an early Happy Birthday too you! I think your 50's are going to be some of the best years of your life!

    Thigh Lift - What Kind?

oh thanks! so that is right about exactly where my scar already is, although it's not that long and doesn't go around all the way. but it still isn't like I'd really have a whole extra new scar afterwards. that is very helpful and you look GREAT!

    Struggling

I sure do feel for you! my daughter who graduated Monday has Asperger's Syndrome. She is delightful, but getting her to this point was quite a job! I am a stress cleaner, so my kitchen looks GREAT!. You have us now to help be a part of your support system. when you get off track, try to get back on as soon as you can and don't beat yourself up over the slips. try to not choose the worst thing when you get knocked off track. I think the meditation and walking are super choices. I spend part of my lunch break at work listening to quiet music with the lights off, 15-20 minutes and it really helps me let go of the morning yuk from work.

    Any one ride horses?

I have not been on a horse in a very long time. DECADES really. but this is certainly one of my post op goals. planning to take the girls this fall to a place where we can ride. looking forward to it. hopefully by then my weight will be low enough that the horse won't toss me off
  23. this had been my only real struggle post op. I started with just a stool softener. then I added Milk of Magnesia pills a couple of times a week. then added them daily. then added benefiber daily and now everything is good. I had trouble even though I was not on any pain pills. I would start with the benefiber and stool softener and then add MOM as needed.
  24. my date was in February, but I just wanted to say welcome to the club! I look forward to hearing about your journey.

    Post surgery exercise (walking)

I think you are doing very well for one week out! I was still walking pretty slowly at that time. at three months out I try to walk 3 miles a day - and a goal of 100 miles in a month. so far my miles per month have been closer to 90. no doubt walking and other exercise is very *very* helpful, but there are many bariatric patients who aren't even able to walk well - I think the hitting your liquid and Protein goals, and keeping your calories in the recommended amount is going to trump walking.
