    Advice

somehow I had the idea I would be sipping forever - which is not the case. Only sipping until the swelling in my stomach went down. It's much easier to be patient with the process when you have a good understanding of what is going on.

    WLS and Diabetes

Yup. I would agree with you. I think of diet controlled where if I have a bad day and eat Cookies it is high. that is not the case now. I would have to eat poorly for some time to go back to having high blood sugars, which is what makes it resolved or in remission. and it feels GREAT. I hate metformin with a purple passion, so I am pretty determined to not go back to that place.
  3. individual results will vary you will, in some ways, get out what you put in - so follow your plan. some days it's hard. I was almost 240 at surgery and have lost 37 at three months, so roughly 30% of my excess weight. but, as has been said, it's a rest of your life kind of thing, so don't worry about it too much. it's more important to relearn a new relationship with food and moving your body.

    Calorie absorption. Wishful thinking?

it feels like *everything* is stored as fat Yes. Anything consumed in excess of what the body needs is converted to energy which if not used is stored as fat. Our bodies are very efficient machines developed/evolved to conserve what isn't currently needed for when it is needed. don't mind me I am just grouchy today. today it feels like even AIR is stored as fat.

    WLS and Diabetes

I was told once my A1c was normal my diabetes would be "resolved" or in "remission" I understand if I eat junk I can develop diabetes again. diabetes is now listed as a former condition in my medical record.

    3 days post op

Hello! it sounds like you are doing what you should be doing. I look forward to hearing how things are going for you.
  8. Congrats! I am looking forward to reading about your progress! I was nervous too! it's normal.
  9. I did not have any complications - and I had a nerve block so very little pain. I was ready to go back in a week, but I took short days the rest of the month so I could go home and walk, nap, catch up on fluids. I would think if you do not have any complications or a hernia repair you should be fine if you're not in a job that requires lifting. but you will need to plan for having to take small sips all day still.

    Food

I was allowed to add banana to my Protein shakes and I was allowed unsweetened applesauce which I added unflavored Protein Powder to at that point. Also I added peanut butter powder sometimes to my chocolate shake. refer to your packet and see what your choices are. Also the sugar free Popsicles were my favorite thing. I like the outshine brand. I still have them when the family is having ice cream.
  11. they filled out my FMLA for 4 weeks, just in case - but I went back after a week and did part time days, a 6 hour shift for the rest of that first month. This allowed me to work some (no vacation time left) but also to go home and rest, walk, focus on fluids.

    Shakes

well by about 5 days in I was. my swelling in my stomach went down quickly. and I was hungry, which I would guess was due to hormone still in my system. but know that it is probably the hardest part of the process. once you are on soft foods it gets so much easier from that standpoint. let us know how you are doing!
  13. my surgeon didn't set one, he asked what my goals were, I think to make sure I had a realistic understanding of what to expect from surgery. he thinks I will blow right past my goal of 160, but we will see. I just want to not have diabetes, and to obviously weigh less than my husband. I technically weigh less than him now, but that is not good enough. my highest ever weight that I know of was 267. I was 262 at my consult/seminar. I was 238 at surgery and 201 last Monday at 3 months out. right on track. I am 5'1.5" - just a wee short fireball.

    What the heck happened?!

When the scale doesn't move. or moves the WRONG way I have to look at my activity, food, Protein, fluids and then tell myself, look you are NOT eating enough to gain FAT. it's Water or poop or something else going on that adds that wee bit of weight and it will sort it's self out. so that makes me feel better. it's fat loss I am after. and then I get on with my program and try not to fuss about it until the next weigh in.

Tips and advice for our newbies

see, I knew I liked you a lot! My Dad's family is from Holland - his grandparents moved here right before his dad was born. The only Dutch I picked up on were naughty words spoken in the direction of naughty children who irritated the elders enough to make them revert to speaking the old language. ha. Trying to learn a little bit now but its hard at my age. do try to write your book, what could it hurt?

    Nervous about change....

we were all nervous about the change - and that this is not just some whim of a diet we can go off when it gets hard. I hope it helps to know you are not alone in this! we will all be here for you, and I look forward to seeing your progress!

Tips and advice for our newbies

@@heather5565 excellent post! so very helpful. Thank you! are you Dutch heritage? (I am too but I do not know if I can teach the grands to call me Oma) and just start writing one page at a time, see what comes of it? Earlier this year I did a piece for fan fiction because books niggle at my mind all the time, and to my surprise it was very well received! and that was a lovely boost for me.

    1 Month Check Up

you're doing great! just keep following the plan - try the soft foods. I was scared changing over too.

    Wow wow wow

I was diabetic before surgery - just diagnosed in December 2014. Since 3 days before surgery off diabetes meds - normal blood sugars.
  22. I'm praying for you! please let us know how you do with it all. How EXCITING!

Who do you want to be after?

well one thing I am looking forward to is making my OWN clothes again - and having them exactly the way I want them to be, in the color I want and the fabric I like. planning a project for this fall - a smocked nightgown for myself. the size on that will be forgiving enough that it's a good place to start. I tend to like a variety style wise comfy, sometimes a little too comfy at home lounging - sometimes a little preppy, but then I like to dress up, wear dresses, blouses with slacks - Agent Carter style, but I also hope to incorporate some steam punk into my outfits. We'll see. I'll need to go to MAC and get a new red lipstick I suppose.
