yes! I think the smaller sizes are often not worn because people buy them hoping they will fit, trying to loose weight. when they don't loose weight they donate. or if they are lightly worn it's due to weight gain. Glad you found some lovely things!

    Low carb products

I was cleared for all foods, including raw veg at one month. my meals are supposed to be 75% Protein, but I am supposed to have veg, and even some fruit and limited carbs daily. I have not had any problems, and I am loosing weight.

    Eggs in week 2 post-op

plans all vary. my plan did not allow eggs, however it did allow fish on soft foods. I asked to try eggs instead and they told me I could cautiously go ahead.
  4. lots of people do, although it's best if you wait until you are in the maintenance part, after weight loss and make sure your bloodwork is all good. I am excited for you! and look forward to seeing your progress.

How do I tell my children?

I would just frame it as a surgery (and weight loss) you need to do to be healthier and be around for their children's children. Your daughter needs to know that your medical condition is not like her situation and that she is doing exactly what she should (by being active) that she is beautiful and perfect. then answer any questions they have about the surgery or post op period. I'd also have them help you prepare food to freeze so they can eat it in your immediate post op period. You won't feel like cooking when you're on liquids and feeling like they are helping you be successful will probably be the best gift you can give them. wishing you all the best. my kids were 15, 17, 20, 23, 24, 26 and 27 when I had surgery. some of them didn't want me to have it, but they all appreciate how much more healthy I am now. only the younger 3 were still in the home.
  6. time to get this party started.............

Waiting for that news! Great--even if the search continues. I still think we can mix up a prep for WLS folks and become the "Colonoscopy Queens". Really though, Great news!

  7. I work in a hospital system, and I knew I wanted to use the weight loss center associated with that hospital, so I can read my own labs and tests and such. I went to a consult - there are 3 surgeons there - and the one at the consult I liked. they all 3 had a good reputations. so, I just went with it. I could have met with the other 2 first if I had been not already happy.
  8. I am actually happy to see your progress....I started out about the same weight at you for my surgery weight. I happy to see you are already under 200 pounds. I am hoping to reach that milestone by the end of the year. How much do you exercise? Do you track what you eat? I walk almost every day. usually about 3 miles - but of course in the first month it was not that much. Once cleared for more I went back to doing my bedtime yoga routine, and a couple of times a week I use my pilates reformer for a work out. I am a loosey goosey tracker. I weigh my morning snack which is almonds, dried cherries and a few chocolate chips. because it is easy to overdo nuts. I get them ready on Sunday - I have this snack on work days. other than that I add my Protein and fluids in my head until I get to my minimum and then I stop adding the rest of the day. I just overall keep carbs low, but I don't try to eliminate all carbs. I usually do cook most of my Proteins on Sunday and measure them out on these little dishes that travel to work easily and then my lunches for the week are prepared, with extra protein in the fridge that is flexible to use for various dinners. about 3 times a month I weigh/measure everything and put it in my mapmywalk tracker to make sure my portion sizes haven't grown. sometimes it feels like the changes are too fast for my brain. sometimes it feels painfully slow. just trying to hang on and enjoy the ride. I look forward to seeing your progress! getting below 200 was a HUGE milestone for me.
  9. I have had no serious issues. some mild constipation, some depression early on. that's it. I haven't had trouble eating or drinking or exercising. weight is coming off slow and steady.

    Walking, Walking, Walking

glad to see you're on the other side of it! and yes, if you are able to walk before surgery I do think it helps with the recovery a LOT.

I have a serious question... I know, right?!?!

I track my food and workouts and try to keep my deficit between 500-800 calories. enough to make a serious weekly deficit, but not enough to make my body think I am starving. on my program they want men to get between 70-80 g of Protein. and I haven't been given carb guidelines except to have my meals be 75% protein. I don't avoid all carbs, (example I have a slice of oat bread toast in the morning with my egg) but I do keep them pretty low. but I am only 4 months out from surgery - any pause I've had in weight loss has been less than 2 weeks and I know you may be looking for input from those further out than I am. I am looking forward to the party that I know will ensue when you finally break this stall!

Protein shakes - no aspartame or splenda

whole foods has a whey Protein shake mix that has stevia. chocolate and vanilla. so pop in there if you have one close by. I think it was the 365 brand.

    Divorce after WLS?

so far we are happier than ever. which is good but happy or not we are just as committed to each other. we have weathered far rougher storms than this and decided a long time ago that we would not walk away from each other. which is not to say that there are not unique stresses. we just decided we would just have to be very open in our communication with each other. and, we both expect to change as we go through life, so it is important to us to allow each other to grow and work to have a happy marriage as we move through life. because we'd rather be happy than not, and we'd rather go through life together than apart. our next anniversary is #20. I'd hate to ever have to get used to someone else! so I hope we have a lot of years left, and I hope I go first when the time comes.
  16. 1. I know you do not look like a pig. 2. there are those who would want you even if you did (you don't) 3. you are worth it. you are worth loving. I promise. if you can't say it to yourself yet, look in the mirror and say my friend Christina says I am worth loving and she is never wrong. that being said there is not one aspect of my life that is not improved with WLS, and I wish you the same success.

Not losing on pre op diet

constipation can cause you to hold Water on top of the weight of the BM. I didn't have a pre-op diet, so I am afraid I'm not much help other than this. I hope everything goes well for you to have your surgery.
  19. my plan is 50-60 g for women 70-80 for men. I am always above that, but I stop counting when I get to that number.

Sometimes, the Universe reminds us to be grateful.

I hope she gets the help she needs - and yes, we have so very much to be thankful for.
  21. easier. it got easier. it's always been good, but the easier it gets to do the things I want to do, the more likely and more often I am inclined to do them. the more often I do them, the better it gets. very happy with all the ways WLS has improved my life, this area right along with everything else.

Why do some folks try to ruin this forum?

I wonder if they were posting from an iphone. when I use the app it doesn't show me the various forums. when I am on the computer I can see all the different places and topics you can post to. of course WLS affects *every single aspect* of our lives, and we need to be able to discuss them as well rounded people.

Why do some folks try to ruin this forum?

don't worry @@KristenLe I don't think they mean to post exclusively on a veterans forum, just as an option. my issue is whatever they vent there, if it is identifiable the people they are venting about would eventually become veterans and have access to read old posts, and to me that is just a problem waiting to happen.
