    Has anyone weaned off vitamins?

I was taken off of anything with added B 6 or 12 except my multi at 6 months after my second round of bloodworked showed continued elevation of these two. if they are still high at 9 months then I am to stop taking the multi as well. I only take one calcium per day as my levels are excellent on this dose. any other supplements I take are not due to WLS but general aging well supplements, which is a regimen I have been on since my mid 30s and salmon oil for my ADD. they go in a 7 day divided pill pack and I just take them daily a couple at a time until I am finished, usually at lunch except for my third dose of glucosamine and condroitin which I take at bedtime for my arthritis.

    Does EVERYONE have saggy skin?

oh. it is going to depend on age, where the weight is, genetics.......... but I will tell you - I am a lot happier with saggy skin than with full of fat skin - I'm about half way done loosing the weight, no thoughts on whether or not I will pursue plastics. I do understand how the major changes can be a bit daunting though - from my perspective 7 months post op it is *all* worth it.

    Concern about Eating Junk

one thing I do - because I tend to be a grazer also, is I pre-prep my food big time. so when I leave the house on work days - if I am the late person at work - I have all my food/drinks with me for the day so the calories and Protein are just right. if I am not the late person I have all except my dinner portion with me. I eat when I feel like I need food. because my stomach is so little I eat a bit and move on - but I never go over my calories/ and always have my protein. weekends are a bit more of a challenge as I get busy doing things and then with the small stomach there is no catching up if I miss a meal/snack. when I want chocolate or a cookie I usually have a triple chocolate Protein Bar. when I want ice cream I have a sugar free popsicle. when I want a big mac I make a healthy (and appropriately sized) big mac salad. when I want nachos I make the toppings and skip the chips. There are ways to eat good whole food - scratch an itch - and not feel deprived. so far, I have absolutely no interest in large servings of anything at all.

SLOW Loss (3-4 lbs per month)

well I am 7 months out and down almost 50 pounds. went faster some months and other months lost nothing. but guess what? 50 pounds off feels GREAT, and I am still loosing, so I will get there. I just want to encourage you to control the things you can control, like becoming more healthy and active, keeping calories where they want them and fluid/protein goals. You will get there and astound yourself with your progress! these are the things that matter to your long term success anyway.
  8. I was on pause for SO LONG due to another medical condition that when I finally got my date it was just a couple of weeks away also! I actually had to take a second date a few days later, just to feel like I could get all my ducks in a row. I understand all the emotions flying around you! thankfully I did not have a two week diet ahead of time, just the normal fasting the night before surgery and bowel clean out. all I can say looking back is it was completely worth it. I look forward to seeing your success.
  9. my understanding is that it is different for people with a sleeve and RNY due to the valve at the bottom of the stomach that regulates how quickly food leaves the stomach. however the sleeve can't stretch very much as they have removed most of the stretchy part of the stomach. you can and will have it sort of reflux back into your esophagus if you eat too much or drink a bunch with eating. not a pleasant feeling. happened a couple of times with drinks early on when my stomach was swollen and I was still getting the hang of things. With the RNY my understanding is it can very well empty the stomach quicker with the bypass bit of it.

    I hate these vitamins

I had bought a big old bottle of bariatric chewables right before surgery. hated them. HATED them. ate them anyway. because I am not going to waste that kind of money, lol. but I had to split them into 1/4ths and have them with apple sauce or pudding or something. I took one in the morning, one in the evening and when they were gone I went back to my regular ladies one a day pill. the practice I use does not recommend the Patches.

    Personal relationships

I did not have any restrictions - just whenever I felt like I was ready.

    )Thank you all

I am glad your surgery day is getting closer! I did not have a hernia repair or gall bladder removal, so I can't help there. looking forward to seeing your progress!
  13. well. I wish he would be respectful enough to understand that you do not want the junk - but perhaps he offers out of some warped consideration. I do not know. However, you are the one who had surgery not him. It is not appropriate to expect his food choices to change. my husband still sits on the couch with a bag of potato chips. I just ask that he put them on the other side of him rather than between us. You will always have people around eating the wrong things. you have to find your own way to want healthy options and amounts.
  14. Hi Christina, I am also diabetic. That is the main reason why I had this surgery to help me with my sugar. Since surgery, about a week ago, my sugar reads are between 100 - 130, although today after some soup I had a 170 read.I am really hoping the surgery will help with this. When did you start seeing progress? Or a real "permanent" change in your sugar? Thank you very much for your input! Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App I was on Metformin before surgery which kept my blood sugars just barely acceptable. 120-130 fasting. and after surgery with Metformin out of the picture they stayed about the same to slightly lower as they had been prior to surgery with the medication. within a few months they were excellent with no medications. I haven't checked a fasting level in a couple of months but the last time I checked it was right around 100/ at 3 months my A1c was down to 6.1 and at six months it was at 5.4..... being able to eat fruit and maintain normal blood sugars is amazing to me! My medical record no longer lists me as being diabetic. I hope you enjoy the same success.

    Alcohol Post Op

if you wouldn't rub alcohol on a wound outside your body less than 30 days post op, then I wouldn't consume it internally. please wait until you are fully healed and medically cleared.
  17. Please find another practice that will work with you if necessary. I have a daughter who has this diagnosis - I would imagine it is very frustrating to you to be denied without them looking at the stability of the rest of your life. wishing you all the best.

    Vent of frustration

I do most everything in my house. it's fine - but when I am down I am DOWN. had the plague last week, so unlike my surgery nothing was prepared. they all survived. you have to rest. inside your body everything is changed. that alone makes you tired. I went back to work at a week, part time but I was not 100%. it takes a couple of months! so, if they have to order in food. so be it. it is not forever. if you can get your head in the game try to do the timekeeping in little pieces (I am a timekeeper also, so I know what a big job that can be) just do what you have to for the next few weeks, and things should be getting easier all the time.
  19. with that big ole belly gone, I am making progress in my yoga/pilates stretching that astounds me. after 20+ years of using it to combat sciatic nerve pain this is very rewarding

I hope I reach that point some day! right now - my back still hurts from overextending something monday morning. It's better than yesterday but oi, I hadn't had lower back pain in months and really wishing I could take naproxen right now. Tylenol ain't doing a darn thingl.

    What's the skinny on coffee?

plans vary, and I would imagine are someone dependent upon your ulcer risk - so check with your doctor about your own medical situation. I was allowed decaf at the beginning (but why bother??!?!?!??) and regular coffee after a few weeks. I have coffee every work day morning, and sometimes on the weekend. I have what my Daddy always called "baby coffee" - with cream and sugar - now post WLS I mix half and half with fairlife milk and use stevia most of the time. I have a big ole probably 24 ounce cup. #absolutebliss first I drink the coffee - then I do the things...........

Where do I put my scale ?

I keep mine in the bathroom. I weigh often, and record it on Mondays to see if I can follow a trend.
  22. Christinamo7

    Its more than a stall

you may need to go a little lower, I do not know. as we loose weight we need less calories. I wouldn't go dramatically lower, just cut a little here or there. move more if you can too. but then it could honestly just be a stall. I was stalled between 4-6 months and now loosing slow but steady again. it does happen, and it is frustrating. how are you doing with Protein and fluids? veg?

    Fresh juice suggestion please

I don't do juice, but I do make a smoothie with apple or pineapple, kale and spinach, with some ice and Water. I was allowed applesauce so I think something like that would be a better choice if you have a blender than can handle making smoothies. I was drinking the Vitamin water zero, but then my b vitamin levels were too high, so now I only get them as an occasional treat, but they are good. real tasty.

Can we please talk about Starvation Mode for a minute?

so my thing is the thinking that if you eat too few calories you ruin your metabolism *forever* and I suspect this is not really true. it may be challenging and difficult to get your metabolism so you can eat a normal amount of calories and not gain I have to believe if it is possible to train your body to maintain weight on less, then logically, it must also be possible for this to go the other way too. but I have no personal experience because I was never one to try to exist on very low calories, except of course in the brief time immediately post op from WLS.
  25. keep in mind that your body is very busy behind the scenes in early days - processing fat at a high rate, healing from surgery. if there are no Vitamin deficiencies (I think these are usually checked at 3 months- hopefully you're taking your supplements) make sure along with activities you have plenty of relaxation plans too - for me examples of this are epsom salts baths in my jetted tub, massage and a bedtime yoga routine. try to get extra sleep. try to meet Protein and Water goals.
