Why do we have to wait?

the reason to wait is so that you and baby will have a better chance at good health. when you are rapidly loosing weight the baby is exposed to whatever is stored in that fat on your body yes, people have gotten pregnant during their first year, but it isn't the best or optimal, and I know that you want what is best for that much wanted little one.

    Protein shakes - alternatives?

there are some vegan pea Protein options. I did not personally like them, but if you have a whole foods/whole body store near you they usually sell one serving packets so you could try several non soy/non dairy options without having to buy a whole jar.

How long was your longest stall?

I have been going round the same 3-4 pounds for about 5 weeks I think. but I am getting smaller, fitting into clothes that did not fit me a few weeks ago. so, it's weird. but find your comfort in other ways. check your nutrition to make sure you're where you should be and just tell the scale to shut up
  4. with the sleeve, it is very manageable to have a proper level of nutrition with that percentage removed as well as hydration. it's really only in the beginning when there is swelling that people can have issues, or if they have a complication like a stricture. I reckon that swelling would be an issue even if they cut less out.

    Feeling Horrible

probably just getting junk out of your system then, make sure you're drinking loads of Water. that's the only way I know to cope. and if you slip, avoid the carbs like the plague. thankfully I didn't have a preop liquid diet. I think it must be the hardest part of the whole process. I did have to be on liquids the day before and almost two weeks afterwards, and it was certainly a challenge.

    Feeling Horrible

all you can do is go forward. look up some savory options online for your liquid diet, not everything has to be sweet. Let us know how you are doing.

    Risks on WLS

its normal to be nervous about that or a myriad of other things when you get close to surgery. You've already had some really good posts about the relative risk of this surgery so I will only say that for me, when adding up the risk/benefit I was far more convinced that my obesity had the greater risk of early death for me. simply put, I was more scared of the complications of obesity (diabetes and heart disease) than of the actual surgery it's self. if you follow instructions and are boldly transparent especially with anesthesiology - it is almost certain that you will come through with flying colors.
  8. a few weeks ago I bought a pair of size 12 dress pants because they were on clearance. they were a couple of inches away from fastening/zipping. today they fastened/zipped easily. don't look quite right yet, but within the next couple of weeks I suspect they will. I haven't worn that size in a very long time. guess I better put them in the queue to be hemmed up!

it's just NUTS. :-) in a good way. in the weeks since I bought these pants the scale has been bouncing around the same 3-4 pounds. and NOT going lower, but obviously the body is changing, because I haven's so much as washed them yet, so I know the pants haven't changed. what a wild ride.

Which Food Did (Or Will) You Miss the Most?

I really thought I would miss coca cola a lot, but so far, 5 months out, I'm really fine without it. Other things I love I have found healthy alternatives if I want them. (such as a shake or Protein bar when I am craving chocolate)
  10. I'm just 5 months out - but so far the only awkwardness is from being with people not in my "inner circle" who are surprised by what I can or can't eat, or the amount. there is a tremendous amount of misinformation out there.

    Need advice

if it's dry and doesn't smell putrid, then I am sure it's fine. don't pick though! if you are concerned then by all means talk to your doctor's team tomorrow and let us know how you're doing.

    I love to cook.

well I will tell you I also LOVE TO COOK. and I love to bake. I still do. I find my tastes have changed somewhat, but it also doesn't bother me to cook what I'm not wanting to eat. there is always something in the mix that I love to eat as well so it works out just fine. right now due to an overabundance of tomatoes, I have a lovely red sauce cooking down on the stove for later this week. I made steak and chicken quesadillas for my family today and had steak, chicken, black Beans and cheese with salsa for me. the only thing is when I was on liquids I did not want to cook for others, but I had planned ahead and had things in the freezer for the family so I could just have my liquids in peace. but once I was eating it was game on again.

    The truth about ibuprofen...

I have the sleeve. To my surprise my doctor said they are fine for me. I'm glad my husband was there or I would have convinced myself I didn't understand him right. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Need a kick in the pants at the Jersey Shore!

I just want to let you know that my 30's were much better than my 20's and my 40's have been much better than my 30's were! so I think you have so much to look forward to. you will also have lots to sort out in this first year post op, and probably will be attracting a wider range of gentlemen, so I concur with the idea to sit on the seaside some and really think about what your hopes and dreams are for the next decade. and then go make it happen! this is a lovely support group, and we will be here when you need to talk anything out.
  16. the rule about not drinking when you eat is to prevent the food from moving through too quickly, therefore you being hungry again. it does not prevent a sip because your food is spicy or something like that. I take supplements that I need to take with food. when I take them I eat a few bites, take the pill with enough Water to make it go down well and then eat the rest of my food. this is not a problem and does not cause me to wash the food through more quickly. likewise if I am eating food that is drier than normal I may need a small sip or two to make my tummy feel better than if I didn't have a sip or two. I doubt I've ever had more than 3 ounces - usually much less.

    Feel like a Junkie

I love the outshine strawberry ones! I often have one for "dessert" one more way WLS has improved my life. I didn't used to have dessert before.

    Telling my daughter...

    1. you have a lot more time to be a good example both of food and exercise. 13 is not even close to being raised up. 2. I told all my kids. (4 boys, 3 girls ages 28 down to 16) some approved, some didn't and a couple of them didn't really care. none of my kids have a weight problem, and I know that may complicate the issues - when you tell her I would just tell her you had this done to combat your own obesity so you can be more active in her life. if she has questions answer them honestly. hopefully just by your family making better choices this is a problem that will resolve it's self for her without any long term effects. She's just coming into puberty, so her body has a lot of crazy changes in the next few years.

    New here

Hi there! nice to meet you. I look forward to seeing your progress.
  22. Christinamo7

    Oh the impatience!

I had to wait due to reasons other than financial, so I spent that time getting my mind wrapped around the changes I was making and coming to terms with everything. so, it will pass quickly and just focus on getting ready, in that way you will be spending the time productively and not just waiting. looking forward to hearing about your progress!

    Depression

I went through an odd but mild depression in the first couple of months post surgery. it was the hormones. Walking daily helped a lot as walking also has an effect on lifting the mood, and for me it was enough to allow me to function normally. if yours is more serious, do not hesitate to speak to your team about it. *odd in that I am not normally someone who you would describe as struggling with depression. I'm more of a sunny side of life/glass is full and overflowing kinda person.
  24. Christinamo7

Why does this have to be so hard?

it is like I was vomiting, but not food - it was this foamy slimy spit like substance that was not quite like spit. and forceful vomiting. I couldn't imagine what it was until I experienced it.

Why does this have to be so hard?

nothing ever made me sick until I tried to eat like a normal (post WLS) person right before I came back to work after my bereavement leave. ate food I always ate - SICK SICK SICK. foamies. YUK. since then, I've been fine. sometimes it's just weird, you know? I always take a half hour at lunch, but sometimes now I need 45 minutes to let my tummy settle after I eat, if I am going to be out front where other people see me. at almost 5 months out, I find food tastes better now my palate is not cluttered with some of the not good for you food I used to eat. I hope it becomes that way for you too. If I can only eat a little bit, I want it to taste good!
