Umm, how do you tell your daughter she might need this?
Christinamo7 replied to OKCPirate's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
it seems a lot of people have been hurt by these kinds of conversations. So at the end of it I would say it is going to depend on your relationship with your daughter. I knew my Dad loved me - I mean head over heels, unreasonably NUTS for his daughters - come what may, no matter if I made the "right" or "wrong" choice - no matter my weight or how I looked. I am sure that is not true for everyone. I come from a family where just about every topic has always been discussed, and health issues are no exception. love and acceptance is guaranteed and best intentions are assumed. I would guess that is not always true for everyone and I know how fortunate I am. let us know how you get on with this. I am certainly encouraging of more people looking into and having this surgery. It has changed my life! -
most of the time I meet my goals. one thing is I eat eggs quite often in the morning - which has a lot of nutrients needed for good hair. I haven't lost any excessive amounts of hair at 6 months out. I lost quite a bit a number of years ago when my son moved into a group home, that was a very stressful time. (so much that I thought I would need a wig) I have not really allowed this wild ride to stress me out too much. nor did I cut calories too severely. I just followed the guidelines I was given, and it will come off as it comes off. I think stress - ether extremely low calories for a long time, or emotional stress over the process likely has something to do with it, but that is just going by my own personal experience.

Unjury is so nasty
Christinamo7 replied to myfatisnotaflaw's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
oh, I like it real well. for the strawberry one I mix it with fairlife milk and some ice cubes. sometimes 1/3 of a banana. I know some mix it with a sugar free lemonaid like vitmain Water zero. -
I am sorry to hear about all your troubles. the only thing I can say is that my bariatric team suggested that I may consider Lexapro following my father's death if I need something because it is considered weight neutral. So perhaps you could talk to your doctor to see if that would be an appropriate change for you.

yes you should be able to apply for intermittent leave to cover your appointments. I had continuous FMLA for the surgery it's self and I have intermittent FMLA for a year to cover my doctors visits. for that same reason.

Struggling in social settings
Christinamo7 replied to futurefeatherweight's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
let me encourage you that as time goes by this is a situation that resolves it's self. but for me personally? that first month I wanted to be at home with total control. -
on the weekends coffee is a treat, a dessert, so not always, on work days? coffee is how I am able to use my grown up manners. I start my work day with a 20 ounce cup with a combo of fairlife milk and half and half and stevia. I'm not much use until I get at least half of it in my. notamorningperson.

my kids do not struggle with their weight but all 4 boys have a condition called MEN 1. one of the outcomes if it is not treated is pancreatic cancer. My oldest son has made an educated decision to not pursue testing. He is almost 30. So I sure can't make him (edited - that should say treatment) we talk about it regularly. he does not have insurance and can't afford the exchange insurances and he will not be moved. but we do talk about it. I have to cry when he is not there so we can discuss respectfully. I have learned about charity care and have given him numbers and names of who to call. I think you absolutely can talk about it as long as it is done with love, and respect. I would just let it be a continuing, gentle conversation. health based. my Dad had diabetes. when I developed diabetes and wanted to pursue surgery he was all for me not having to deal with this anymore. His love and support, no matter my choices has always allowed me to bloom in my life. let us know how it goes. -
Sleeve set for September 14
Christinamo7 replied to Monet08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the only advice I have is to just focus on following whatever healthy "diet" you are on as you follow through the pre-op and post op stages - and let the scale take care of it's self. Unless the doctor says you have to loose x amount by this time, you are setting yourself up for frustrations if you try to impose timelines like that. and chin up! for the most part just about everyone is nervous. -
How many times a day should you eat?
Christinamo7 replied to juneau's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my practice recommends 3 small meals and Snacks in between if hungry or to meet goals. at six months out sometimes I need a Protein rich snack sometimes not. they do not want us having shakes past the first month on a regular basis, or relying on Protein Bars, but to get our nutrition from whole foods as much as possible. on work days, especially if I am the "late person" I end up packing my measured food for the WHOLE day, and just eating on it as I can since I do not really have control of when my meal and breaks will be. I know by bedtime, if I've eating/drank what I brought that I have met my goals within the calories as appropriate. -

My first day mushie/soft - i was petrified
Christinamo7 replied to trekker954's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I think we are all scared to go to food! but it is important and you are doing well. I really liked refried Beans (touch down taco dip)at that stage, and yes, scrambled eggs with cheese. one tip is if you have a mug warmer that plugs in to keep your coffee hot you can put your wee portion in a small coffee cup, set it on there (or a small ramekin) and it will keep warm without drying out even if you take a half hour to eat your "meal" -
so sometimes I will satisfy that urge with various seasonings. one example I am very happy to have half a sauteed chicken breast with spag sauce and cheese and skip the Pasta. or ground meat (I use a mix of ground sirloin and ground turkey breast) with spag sauce and cheese. if I am craving a different kind of food I have different spices, same meats. When I want ice cream I have a sugar free popsicle. I love the outshine ones, strawberry is my fav. some people freeze greek yogurt with some stevia for the same idea, or you could add vanilla. When I am craving a candy bar I have a chocolate Protein bar. I like the power crunch. I do, on occasion have a small amount of popcorn with shredded reduced fat cheese melted on top. It's not all the time, but it doesn't seem to be a slider food for me. I can only eat a little bit and then I am stuffed. I measure it out, log it and move forward. at 9 weeks you should be healed enough that this would not be a problem. I was medically cleared for any kind of food at 4 weeks.

Please allow me to vent.......
Christinamo7 replied to Cassie111's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
congrats on your weight loss! one thing I would recommend is using something like coconut oil for your body when you get out of the shower or tub - it take a bit longer to absorb in than a lotion but it does help your skin bounce back SOME. no, it is not cosmetic surgery, but it does help as does aragon oil on your face. I am half way to my goal. I know I won't look like I did before I put on the weight in my 30's - it is hard to say what I will look like. I know as we age, no matter our weight it is always quite something to continually reconcile yourself to the mirror and the changes. -
What happens if you don't get enough protein?
Christinamo7 replied to IveGotThePower's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've noticed for myself if I am less than 70 my weight loss slows. when it is higher, I tend to loose more and feel more satiated with my food choices. let us know what you find out. -
What do you tell the waiter/server?
Christinamo7 replied to IveGotThePower's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just say "oh yes, thank you. I always have to take some home" (and if the food was good I add, "it was fabulous, by the way") -

your body will consume it's muscle (even the vital organs) if you do not get enough Protein. So keep trying -
Weight loss is slowing only 10 days post op
Christinamo7 replied to Miss.Bunny447's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it is normal for the weight to go slow - and will probably be slow until you can get more calories/protein in. you need to convince your body that you are not starving it. right now (the first month especially) your body is in full recovery mode from major surgery. weight loss is secondary to healing. -
12 months later and 105lbs lighter, I have a New Attitude
Christinamo7 replied to cslove's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
wonderful job! doesn't it feel good? please let us know how your plastics surgeries go. -
I tell people that the truth is if there was an easy way out we would ALL be fighting each other to get to the front of the line. doh. everyone who has any weight to loose would do it if it was easy. OF COURSE. when you are not ashamed of getting the tools you need it really takes the wind out of their sails. thankfully I have not encountered that attitude from anyone important to me.

What's your "weight loss pet peeve?"
Christinamo7 replied to Elode's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I do not think you look old. my favorite facial moisturizer is coconut oil or aragon oil. :-) he may be doing that to get you to gain back, or he could have been taught his whole life to equate food with love, and he is trying to express that to you. you can both learn new ways if that is what is going on. -

Christinamo7 replied to Elode's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
YES. exactly this. my dear husband has always acted like he won some kind of prize talking me into getting married again. no matter my size. no matter my age.
