Hi. My name is Laurie. I am 56. Married. I have two adult sons. 30 and 21. I met my husband in college in September 1984 when I weighed 140. My lowest adult weight. Dating in college included lots of eating and drinking. We graduation college in June of 1986 and one week later were married. I weighed 172 on my wedding day. I became pregnant right away and had health problems with blood clots. I ended up losing 20 pounds by the time I was 5 months pregnant. by the time I delivered I gained 30 pounds. up  to 181. I attended law school. my first year was when I was pregnant with my first. My hubby was in the army basic training. I fell in the school parking lot when I was 6 months pregnant. had another dvt. (m first was after knee surgery when i was 23)..so my habits of eating for stress helped me gain the 30 pounds from 6 months to 9 months gestation. Never really lost the baby weight. seemed to gain every year. in my thirties I was able to maintain my weight around 225. I knew I was heavy but didn't feel obese. The older I get and the more sedentary I have become has contributed to my weight just going up.up.up.. about 30 pounds a decade. Now i sit in the 260s and have tried hc multiple times with great short term success only to gain the weight back plus extra. did two boot camps last year and lost inches but no pounds. i have severe arthritis in my left knee.. left over from the car wreck when I was 23 that led to the arthroscopic knee surgery. I need a total knee replacement but am afraid of more dvts and the weight slowing me down for recovery. so my goal is to lose 100 pounds and get knee surgery. Doctor Dutta and I have decided that the sleeve would be best for me. My husband is an RN and works in San Francisco. I live in Utah. He commutes back and forth. Fremont Kaiser is where I will have surgery. Fortunately, the hospital cost and surgery is only $150.
