Ahh the PreOp diet! I looked forward to it as well. By the time I had my surgery I was so tired of protein shakes I wanted to poke my eyes out at the sight of them! Thankfully my Dr.'s office gave me a sample pack of protein drinks so I was able to find some things that worked for me. Now I drink these 3oz protein drinks that have 42g of protein. They don't taste good, but they are only 3oz! The cool part of the preop diet is that you will probably lose a few pounds right there.
To answer you question about family support I have to say both yes and no. I would say my family supports me in spirit, but in reality my wife especially has a hard time. My biggest problem is snacking on sweets. The only way I have found to prevent that is to not have any sweets available in the house. My wife has a big sweet tooth and there are always cookies, cakes..ect I don't want to put too much blame on her, after all I am the one that puts the food in my mouth. My wife is trying though. She now bakes her sweets at night, and takes them to work with her the next morning.
Remember many folks will want to help, they just won't know how. I've started telling family/friends what kinds of food I can or cannot eat before I am over at their house. Otherwise I will have a protein drink shortly before a meal to curb my apatite.
It's going to be a challenge for certain. Keep your friends and family in the loop, they may surprise you

There is a lot of work ahead of you that is for certain, but the band makes it so much easier!
My surgery was March of this year. I've lost about 36lbs now. Most of the weight I lost the first month or so while on liquids. The changes haven't been drastic yet, but I can tell my pants are super loose! I also sleep a lot better now, my back used to kill me at night. I just keep in mind a nice picture of a new HOT me in a year or two, that keeps me going
when was your surgery and how have you been doing since?
