  1. Unless you have mobility issues, you should be able to be up and around. I'm 2.5 weeks post op and was up and around pretty much right away. I have elementary age kids, so I sort of had to be....but I felt OK enough to get out and about.
  2. I was sleeved on 4/22. Things have gone pretty well. I've been back to work for a week now and my pain is pretty much gone. I was on clear liquids the first week, then full liquids for two weeks...only 1 more week and then I get pureed!! I'm doing well getting my water in, but getting my protein in is a struggle. Hopefully that will get better when I move to the next stage.

How much missed work post surgury

My surgery was on Friday 4/22, I was back that next Thursday. So total of 4 business days off. I'm a project manager, so most of the time I'm at my desk or in meetings. I held up pretty well until about 2:30, then I wanted a nap.

    One week post op breakfast:

I cannot wait for cottage cheese....I'm jealous of all of you that can have pureed/soft foods early on! I'm 11 days out and still in full liquids for another 10 days, then pureed.

    Day 6 Post Op

So jealous you are on pureed! I'm 11 days out and on full liquids until day 21, then I get pureed foods. I have a binder from my center that has each stage with a sample menu and foods to eat.

    Scared out of my mind

I was totally on board with the surgery and then a couple days before had a meltdown/panic attack and almost cancelled. Not going to lie, the first few days I had buyers remorse. Had another meltdown around day 3/4 (because I wanted an orange, not broth). My husband just stood there and let me mourn my old life. Now I'm 11 days out and am adjusting much better to my new normal, and have almost zero incision pain at this point. Everyone's journey is different so I can't say you'll have the same outcome as me, or other sleevers. However, each day it will get a little easier. GOOD LUCK!

    Itchy incisions, bad breath

I had an awful taste in mouth my first week and my tongue had this film on it that would not go away. Adding lemon slices to my water helped.
  8. I had my 1 week post op check-up today and was moved to full liquids for 2 weeks. I'm so happy to not eat broth tonight! Overall I'm feeling ok to almost good. I've been off my pain meds for a few days...only thing bugging me now is the big incision, but that's getting better every day. I went back to work yesterday and managed pretty well. I'm getting my liquids in, now it's time to start getting in the Protein. Today is the best I've felt since having the surgery...today is probably the first day I don't have the "buyers remorse" thoughts. I was pretty happy to see that I was down 22 lbs overall from my highest weight. HW: 299 SW: 289 CW: 277
  9. I was sleeved on Friday. It's been been quite the ride. I've been getting on the scale and I see the number drop, but it's almost like I don't care because I don't feel like me. Pre-surgery I was quite active, so this taking it easy and the big incision pain bums me out. Also, I feel bad that I'm not 100% there for my kids right now. I'm just glad I have my hubby around. People that do this without support amaze me. I would be a disaster. I'm back at work today, and feeling much better doing something "normal". Tomorrow I move to full liquids and I cannot wait! To have something other than broth, Water and popsicles will be amazing!

    Day 7

Congrats on your loss! I was sleeved on Friday and I hear ya about the lack of appetite. My downer day was yesterday. Super crabby, feeling depressed about doing the surgery, today is better though. I'm back a work and I think what's keeping me motivated is that tomorrow I get to go on full liquids! Hallelujah!

    3 days post op HUNGRY

I'm 6 days out...I totally get the urge to just taste something other than liquid. However, push through it. Like others have said, there is a reason for the post-op program. As much as I want something other than popsicles and flavored Water, I prefer to not be back in the hospital with a complication. My hubby grabbed me Panera chicken noodle Soup a couple days ago and I've been eating as much broth off of that as I can handle because it tastes like real soup. Hang in there!
  12. That's great! I'll be 1 week post-op on Friday. I had some gas pains and nausea for a couple days after, but that's gone now. I still have some soreness on my right side, but I don't need the RX pain pills, Tylenol is fine.

How long was your hospital stay?

I was sleeved on Friday (4/22), out of the hospital on Saturday. I'm planning to go back to work on Thursday and Friday as 1/2 days.
  14. I had a 10 day pre-op diet. I could have full liquids until the day before surgery-that was clear liquids only. I did cheat a couple times...I had fruit. I did not cheat for the 5 days leading up to surgery.
  15. I had my VGS surgery this morning. Everything went great. The gas pain is no joke but it's manageable. So far my incision pain is low. I've been on several walks....for me walking is less painful than laying in bed or sitting in the chair.
  16. My surgery is tomorrow and I've lost about 10 lbs on my 10 day pre-op.
  17. I am 1.5 weeks out from surgery and one of my biggest concerns from day one of starting this process is I don't have time to be "down and out" post-surgery. I have a 6 and 10 year old...both very active in various activities and I work full time. My husband is very supportive and helps out a lot around the house, but is gone roughly 12 hours/day during the work week so I'm primarily the one running from here to there, cooking and running the basic errands. So my question for those of you with active, younger kids...how did you manage the first few weeks out from surgery? Did you find that having to try and keep up with the family helped you because you had to focus on other tasks or were you drained?
  18. I am on day 3. I do fine until making supper for the kids. I make sure to drink my shake before they eat.

    Smoothies - off limits?

I drink one most mornings for breakfast: whey Protein, unflavored almond or coconut milk, frozen berries and spinach. Sometimes I add PB2. I am still pre-surgery, however my NUT signed off on me continuing with smoothies post surgery if I'm tolerating them well. She said the one I make meets the nutritional goals...as long as I don't add bananas or other high carb/sugar foods.

    Exercise pre-op?

I work out regularly. I joined Orange Theory Fitness a year or so ago...before that I was doing Crossfit. Orange Theory is an hour-long workout led by a coach. It's 1/2 treadmill, 1/2 strength.

    Let's Talk: Fears?

I have some of the same fears other have shared...like having a major surgery when I have two littles at home and gaining the weight back. Probably one of biggest fears is not being able to work out at the level I do now. I run, I lift, I row, all at a high intensity and it's as much for mental health as it is for physical. It makes me nervous that I won't have that outlet for a while. And when I can get back at it, will I have lost a lot of my muscle? I know I will be happier, but there are a lot of what ifs right now running through my head.
  23. Set my date today for April 14 today. It just got REALLY real.

    Houston/April 2016

I have my surgical consult on Monday. I was told they are booking into April, so I'm thinking that's when I'll go in (fingers crossed.)
