I'm jst starting a YouTube chnnl & I'm going to take videos as much as I can throughout the process....one: for something to look back on for motivation when I hit "stalls" & two: so others who have many questions can at least see what I'm going through...
I put up a "test video" last night...jst because...but I am going to start documenting my PreOp visits, shopping for things I'll need postop, my actual surgery date (film as much as I can in the hospital), post op (pain & water/food/vitamin intake) etc....
If anyone wants to watch or follow: look for ..."BariatricGirl 4life" under R&Y intro (I think)... I also have a FB page under the same name if anyone wants to add or follow!!!
    more to come!!

Getting close to my Oct. 5 GB surgery dateI I'm in the midst of my pre-op diet. For my Doc at DHMC in NH it's 800-1000 cal/day, less than 80g carbs. That's it. So I'm thankful to eat real food (in very small quantities) and just have to supplement with shakes if necessary.
I continued to be surprised by how varied pre-op diets are. Seems like a LOT of Docs are still pushing the liquid diet. Given how standardized the surgeries are now, I'm surprised the pre-op diets haven't followed suit.

Started my pre-surgery diet on Tuesday, down 14 lbs today. 800-1000 cal/day, 100g of Protein, 80g of carbs.
Once I got over the sugar headaches it hasn't been too bad. I get hungry, for sure, but without the sugar in play, it's not been that sicky-feeling kind of shaky hungry I used to get.
    Surgery date, Oct. 5th.

It's sort of fascinating how different each programs' pre-surgery diets are.

My friend in CT didn't have to do much of anything except for Clear Liquids 48 hours before surgery.

For me, at DHMC in NH, I have 2 weeks of 1000 cal/day, very low carb, but real food is fine.

Reading every other possible combo on these forums. I wonder why that hasn't become more standardized across the industry yet.

So I was talking to someone today about the Gastric Bypass surgery and she had it about 8 years ago. She just kept telling me well you know your going to have loose skin. A lot of it. I'm just telling you because a lot of pool don't think they will. But you will have a lot of loose skin. Ok lady thank you I heard you the 14 th time. I know I will have loose skin but I would rather have loose skin then not be able to fit in a seat comfortable , or go to movies with out having to have a seat in between my spouse and I so I have room. I can't wait to get on a plane or hell even plan a trip and not care about getting on the plane because of how tiny the seats are. Trust me I love how beautiful I am . I know I'm a really pretty woman but this weight has to go. Loose skin or not.

Congrats. I had mine on 8/8/16. I am 62 years old. I started at 253. I was about 233 at time of surgery. I'm down to 199 since then. Best choice I made. Haven't been this low in over 20 years. You won't regret doing it.

I've taken the last few weeks to enjoy a few of my favorite foods without messing up my daily dieting. My family made me a wonderful, Thanksgiving dinner last Sunday. I hit up my favorite pizza place. I feel like I've satisfied the itch.
Tonight, I'm making Shepherds Pie. It won't be the last thing I eat before my surgery, but it's certainly the last "big meal" I'll have... ever. And I'm ok with that.
I'm so ready to get on with the second half of my life a fitter man.

Just got my surgery date of October 5th. Now I wait to see if Cigna approves it or if there are issues.
Been working on per-surgery requirements for both Cigna, and the DHMC program for the last year, I'm excited to actually DO IT!!

Some say making sure you have all your protein/vitamins/water will help. Some say building muscle will help. Some swear by miracle creams and so on. I'm sure all of these things won't hurt, but my surgeon, everyone at my surgeon's office, my dermatologist, my primary doctor, the plastic surgeon I spoke to at a seminar, and every other medical professional as well as maybe 99% of the wls patients who have lost tons of weight all say there is nothing you can do. As someone with extremely healthy skin and a family history of basically never aging and as someone who has lost hundreds of pounds, I have never seen any real proof that any of the above things work, only correlation. It would seem (and studies back this up) that sagging skin after massive weight loss is determined entirely by genetics, age, amount of weight loss, speed of weight loss, race, gender, even sheer dumb luck are all much more likely factors. It's just something we have to contend with, unfortunately. :S
