    Please Help. This Hurts!!

I'm going through this right now! Every time I try to eat something, it comes right back, and it's burning. I pretty much made it through yesterday, but haven't tried eating anything yet today. I think I'll try drinking some hot liquid to see if that helps. I have also noticed that I can't drink anything cold in the morning or my band seems to tighten up right away. Thanks for the advice catzintj. It helped me if no one else!

    Cipro capsules...

My reply to you is to make sure you let your doctor know that swallowing pills can be an issue. Many pills can be crushed, but some cannot. I automatically ask for either liquid or chewable forms of all drugs unless the pills are small. Most antibiotics are huge honkin' pills and hard even for the unbanded to swallow. Hope this helps!

    Long Lost Member

I too have been gone for some time. I sort of slipped off the lap-band radar when I got pregnant last August. I delivered my healthy baby boy on April 30, 2007 weighing 8# 5oz. I am already back down to my prepregnancy weight and raring to get started again. I am planning to get family photos done in October with my 4 boys, hubby and myself. I'm hoping to be at least another 30 pounds down by then...maybe more. Anyone with advice...is definately welcome. It's hard to get motivated when you're busy caring for an infant, a 3 year old, 2 older boys, a husband and a household. It sure doesn't leave much time for taking care of me, but I know I have to invest the time. Thanks for listening.
  4. I swear by the Fruit 2 O and LOVE it. I haven't had any problems and it isn't carbonated. It could be something that they use to flavor the Water that doesn't agree with you. I also love Nestle' Pure Life in Lemon Splash. Seems as though I'm pretty partial to lemon or grape flavor these days. Hope this helps!

    First Fill? 2.7cc

I had my first fill this past Monday and I asked him at that time what size band I have. I have a 10 cc band. He was only going to put in 1cc in, but I had no restriction with that so he put in another .5 cc. He said that would be all he would put in at this visit. I honestly have some restriction, but not what I thought I would. I'm just getting used to chew, chew chewing again. I was able to eat just about anything with not a whole lot of problems. Now I do have that momentary stick once and a while. I go back in 6 more weeks for another fill. We'll see how much he puts in at that time. He did it all without the use of the flouroscope. He did it all by feel and all went well. Good luck to everyone and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

    Female question....

Just an FYI for anyone on DEPO, that can cause weight gain as well. I was on it for several years and gained a LOT of weight in that time. It also can take a while after you go off it to get pregnant (if that's something you'd be interested in). It took me almost a year to get pregnant after my last shot and I never went back to it. I have problems with any of the birth control with hormones in. I went to an IUD and haven't had any problems. I am still a little concerned about the weirdness in my periods, but I'm going to wait until next month to bring it up to my doctor. Maybe it'll be back on schedule by then.

    high blood pressure

Gatorade has a lot of sodium in. It is meant to replenish fluids lost due to excessive excercise and strenuous activities. I would back off the Gatorade and limit it to maybe 1 serving a day if at all. Drink plenty of Water...even Propel or Fruit2o would be good alternatives. Crystal Light and sugar free Kool Aid are also good alternatives if you prefer something with flavor. My BP was always high and I've been on medications for years for it. At my last appointment, my BP was really, really good. Maybe I'll be off of one more med? WooHoo. Just one of the many great side effects from having the band.
  8. My nutritionist never really mentioned a calorie goal. She just said to make sure I get in at least 60 grams of Protein in and at least 64 oz of Water. The rest should take care of itself. I've found that if I'm eating my protein first, I don't eat nearly as much for the rest of the meal. Good luck! Hope this helps.

Post op 2/1/2 days and problem

I had the same problem, and it endured for quite some time. My bottom got VERY raw and hurt...a lot. I saw that as I was getting all the Protein I was supposed to in, things started to bind up. Also, I was on an Iron supplement, which helped in the binding process as well. Pepto Bismol has aspirin in. I don't know if your doctor told you this, but mine said no Ibuprofen or aspirin...ever again. Tylenol or acetaminophen is ok. Immodium should be ok, though. Check with your doctor to be sure. Just be assured that you will get through this, too. Be sure to get your protein in every day. My nutritionist said 60 grams daily. Your stools should start binding up within a day or two of getting at least that amount in. Good Luck!

    What kind of pets?

Ethan is SOOO adorable! I can't wait to have a bassett of my very own. Yes, you're correct about the names Flash and Fred. Smokey & the Bandit is where Fred comes from and Flash is from The Dukes of Hazzard. 'Ol Velvet ears! Thanks for sharing the pics. I'll try to post of my Daisy when I get home.

    What kind of pets?

I love Bassets! I have wanted one for so long...actually...someday I want to maybe raise them. My first pair will be named Fred and Flash. If you want to know where the names come from ask me. Right now I own a miniature long haired daschund named Daisy. She is 11 months old and so incredibly sweet! She is chocolate/cream dapple and brings much excitement to our house. We also have a 14 year old cat named Buddy and 2 dwarf hamsters named Bert and Ernie (my kids named them). I don't like the things, but as long as I don't have to deal with them, it's alright by me. I read somewhere they only live for about 1-2 years (I'm not sure how old they are now as they were given to the boys) so I"m happy with that. Thanks for asking!

    Female question....

Well I had my period when I had my surgery. Since then, my period started last Thursday and usually lasts 7 days. I had 2 days of pretty heavy bleeding and now since Saturday nothing but some light spotting. I don't understand this at all. I have been VERY regular and this is not normal for me at all. I have had some pretty painful cramping, which I normally don't have as well. I'm hoping everything will regulate itself next month otherwise I'll call my doctor. I have an IUD because I can't tolerate the hormones in the pill, so we'll see. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having some questions about this subject. Thanks.
  13. Way to go. The pics are beautiful! You are such an inspiration!!

    Your Reason

I would have to say my reasons for the band are pretty much the same as many of the posters ahead of me. 1) I want to be able to spend more QUALITY time with my 3 boys, 2) I am toying with the idea of trying for a DAUGHTER, 3) Getting off my HBP medication, and 4) VANITY. I have never been thin. NEVER. I want to be able to shop in regular stores, buying regular clothes and look HOTTT. I want my husband to be so proud to have me on his arm walking into a room. I also have a 5 year plan. By the year 2010 I WILL 1) be to my goal weight or surpass it, 2) have a whole body lift to tighten up all the sagging skin I KNOW I'll have left and 3) finally have BOOBS! I am an A/B if I'm lucky. I want to be able to buy/wear a nice, lacy, sexy bra and I WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN!
  15. I can certainly see the difference in your face for sure. Way to go. Keep up the good work!

    Time for Baby???

Well, I'm glad I found this thread. I'm 31, DH is 39 and we have 3 wonderful children. At the end of my last pregnancy I topped the scale at over 350 pounds, the highest I have EVER been. I didn't have any problems, except gestational diabetes and my normal HBP. I was on meds and the diabetes was diet controlled. My son was very big (born at 10 pounds) and I ended up delivering via C-section because of his transverse position. I have PCOS and actually lost my right ovary to the disease through an ovarian torsion (VERY VERY PAINFUL!). I was told that I would have a very difficult time getting pregnant again. (BTW, I have 2 other children as well). I had an IUD and had it removed July 1, 2003 and by August 14, I found out I was pregnant. So much for a difficult time conceiving! I want to try one more time for a girl (my 3 children are all boys, 9, 7 and 19 months) but definately want to drop some of this weight first. I was banded on Oct. 25, 2005 and have lost 34 pounds so far. My DH and I are trying to decide a time frame for trying again, or if we'll try again. Seeing his age, he doesn't think he can handle another baby. We'll see. I already see a difference in his attitude as I slim down. All in all, you have to decide what's best for you, but you may find conceiving and carrying a baby to term a little easier if you lose some weight first, even if it's without the band. Just my thoughts. Good luck on whatever you decide.

    dieting again

I agree with trying the liquid diet. I lost 26 pounds preoperatively in 2 weeks time. It really isn't that hard to follow and if you only need to lose 12 pounds, they'll probably fly off! Let us know how you're doing and we'll be looking forward to more posts from you updating us on your progress and your upcoming surgery date.

    Free Puppy!

I have a mini doxie, too! I got her when she was 3 months old and she'll be a year in December. She's a long-hair and is a chocolate/cream dapple. She only weighs about 8 pounds and that's about as big as she'll get. I was thinking about getting her bred, but don't know much about the whole process. My hubby is more attached to her than I am and wants to make sure nothing bad happens to her in giving birth. Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. OH...btw...that pic is VERY creepy! LOL
  19. I am waiting to receive my shipment of Isopure, but it has 50 grams of Protein per serving. My nutritionish said I should strive for 60 grams a day. I have WAY surpassed that now that I'm on the mushy stage of the game. There are TONS of different protein shakes available. Just gotta find one that works for your tastes!
  20. Hello, everyone. I am fairly new here...been lurking and putting my 2 cents worth in here and there. I was banded on October 25 and loving the results thus far. I appreciate all the helpful advice I've seen in this forum. You are all such great inspirations. We all had to get to where we were before we could get out and make that change. That life altering change to get healthy. I, for one, am VERY happy I made the decision to get the LapBand and that I found this great support system here on the net. I really am hoping to see all of us meet our weight loss goals. I know everyone has made this decision after much research and thought and probably a little bit of prayer and a whole lot of talking. YEAH ME! YEAH US! Good luck to all and I'm sure you'll be seeing more of me in the coming months.

What PS will you get when you reach goal?

Well, before I even started on this journey, I wanted my boobs done. I was jipped in that department at only a small B cup (if that) so I want at least a full, veluptious C when I'm done. I will also need at very least an abdominoplasty. My belly already hangs down thanks to my 3 boys. I don't know if I'll need my thighs done, but I may just have to go the route of the entire body lift. It'll be an adventure and I'll just have to see what droops and sags as I loose all this God forsaken fat! LOL I know we're all in the same boat...there's bound to be something saggy or droopy after any substantial weight loss. Good luck to all!!

    Hi, newly banded here

Welcome, Pepsi! I know you will enjoy your stay here in "Bandland". This group is a wonderful support group and nearly any question you have, will get a tremendous amount of answers...all of them very helpful. I was banded on 10/25 and am down 30 pounds thus far. It'll be 3 weeks tomorrow. I am very excited for each and every new bandster. This is the beginning of a whole new life for all of us!
  23. I think the previous posters said it all. Definately listen to your Dr's orders. I'm out of the liquid and onto the mushy stage. I'll be on solids by Thanksgiving! WooHoo! I can't wait! I know I won't be overstuffing myself this year, which actually is a huge relief. You definately don't want to upset your tender stomach after surgery. Stay on liquids and follow the stages the doc sets for you. You won't be sorry you did. Good luck! I know you'll love your band!

    Liquid diet

Liquids is really important. I actually lost 26 pounds pre-operatively on the liquid diet. That's one heck of a kick start to your new you! Not everyone has that sort of success, but it is meant to shrink the liver so it's easier to move out of the way to make the band placement easier. It also shrinks the size of the stomach some, or so I was told. I hope this helps. And, although the Protein drinks are God-aweful...it's only temporary. I would maybe try something OTC like the Carnation Instant Breakfast (the CarbConscience type) or Low Carb Slim Fast shakes are pretty good, too. I got samples of unjury from my nutritionist which weren't that bad and I just ordered another Protein Drink ... the name escapes me at the moment... but it's fruit flavored and 50 grams of protein per serving. That should make it a LOT easier to get the protein requirements in for the day. Hope this helps. Good luck!
  25. I guess I've been very blessed with my DH as he has been really helpful throughout all this. I'm 3 weeks post op, and on mushies. My kids are 9, 7 and 19 months. My 9 year old is a GREAT help in the kitchen and will usually make dinner for himself and his brothers. I stocked up on frozen TV dinners when they were 10/$10. They love the things. Even my 19 month old! His favorite is the chicken nuggets. For my husband, I bought him some HungryMan meals and some frozen pizzas (well, for all of them, really). Now on mushies, I just make what all of us can eat. Scrambled eggs, baked beans, baked fish, tuna fish, stuff like that. I also make some stuff I can't have and that the rest will eat, but it sure makes meal preparation easier for me. Dinner time isn't always a family time for us, so I try to make it so at least 3-4 times a week. No matter what we all are eating. Just some thoughts,
