    7 DAYS POST OP

The first poop was BY FAR the worst day for me post-op, at least so far. I started doing miralax and stool softener. Now that I'm on purees I will be having a bite or two of baby food prunes and continue with the stool softener for a bit until I can actually get enough food in me to properly "go". My practices nurse is unsympathetic too - because she knows I'm probably not getting in enough Water. It is my daily task now to drink at least 64 oz - I was hovering around 48 before. Good luck! Pain?

I'm still in some pain from my incisions and I had surgery 9/19. It is not unusual at all. I can't imagine going back to work three days after, is there a way you can take more time off? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. Sounds to me like you're doing great! As you have less than 100 lbs to lose, your rate of loss will probably be a bit less than those who are 150+ lbs overweight. You'll get there before you know it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    $$Money$$

The hospital called me to pre-register and at that time reviewed my co-pay and what I would be responsible for as I hadn't reached my insurance's max out of pocket yet. I would suggest reaching out to them beforehand and asking them what to bring for payment the day of surgery. They will have almost always verified that your insurance is covering you for the procedure. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    7 DAYS POST OP

Absolutely check with your surgeon, but you should be ok with the Miralax as it's not a stimulant. That and stool softeners have saved me the past few days. You could also try milk of magnesia. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeved 9/19

I was sleeved 9/19 as well- went in at 234, was 223 yesterday. Happy with it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. 11 days post-op. Today I took a shower, got dressed and looked down to see dark brown ooze from the incision near my belly button. I freaked out of course and called the surgeons office. My actual words were "IT LOOKS LIKE chocolate Protein SHAKE" hahaha. According to the nurse, it's totally normal - pooled old blood and to put a bandaid on it. Just wanted to post in case anyone else had the same experience - I'm kinda ready for these minor little irritating things to stop! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Well I had my worst day BY FAR - and all because of poop. I'll spare the gory details but I spent a total of 3.5 hours on the commode today trying to birth this thing. It was misery. Got my Water in but could only manage half a Premier and a couple spoonfuls of Greek yogurt. From here on out its miralax, a stool softener and a couple shots of prune juice every day. September 2016 Sleevers!

I am so sorry @locsnpearlz. Is there a way to follow up with your insurance to discuss the mix up and why you were denied? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Before pre op

It was normal for me! I had my last weigh in Sept 2 and started the pre-op diet Sept 9. During that interim week I ate my favorite foods, having something once a day and then sticking to the plan the rest of the time. I like to call it a "celebration" instead of a "funeral" . I didn't cheat on the pre-op and I'm doing well so far post-op. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. Sleeved on 9/19 and today my stomach and incisions feel much more sore than they have. Enough that it hurts to take a deep breath. It feels very bruised. I haven't needed and oxycodone and don't want to start now - anyone else have this experience? I am going for my post-op appointment today. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. Staples? Did you have an open procedure, or laparoscopic? I had lap-robotic and all I have is 5 small incisions, held together with steri-strips. So far, so good; 12 days post-op and the tape has fallen off two of the incisions, and they look find. I had laproscopic sleeve and have 7 small incisions, which until today were stapled together - now they're steri-stripped. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Help! What did you bring?

My hospital had these weirdly satisfying lemon swabs to suck on so I didn't need Biotene. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. It was my drain - finally got it removed (and staples) and I feel GREAT. They said all incisions looked great. Phew! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Surgery

Ask your surgeon. I would suspect you'll have one during the procedure at least because they don't want you peeing on the table - but only your surgeon can address your specific situation. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Lack of sleep

I'm the same date as you! I am having trouble sleeping because of my incisions - can't get comfortable because I normally sleep in my side. I've been taking melatonin and having some children's Tylenol at bedtime and it helps some. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Is tis true...

Check with your program, it really depends. My nurse cousin told me "surgeons love their drains". I was sleeved 9/19 and sent home with the JP drain and I despise it! I think it's starting to hinder my recovery as I'm finding it more difficult to sleep comfortably. It sucks and it's not coming out till Weds. Having said that, I do wonder if I didn't have the drain where all this Fluid would go - I know the majority of people on here don't get one though. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    4, 3, 2, 1

Do a full liquid diet practice run for the rest of the week. It's good to experience it and you'll drop serious lbs. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. I'm 6 days post-op and still have quite a bloated and firm belly. How long does it usually take to clear out the IV fluid/surgery belly (if there is a "usually")? I also have a drain so I'm not sure if that has an effect. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. Not only IV fluids but your belly gets pumped with air to make it easier for the surgeon. It will go away! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. The gas, the drain (you may or may not have one, I still do a week out and I HATE it) and how huge my belly is as a result of the procedure (it's only temporary, but it was a surprise). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. I'm on the same schedule as you (except I started pre-op 9/9) but my belly is still so bloated from the surgery that I know I'm holding weight from that. Think of all the carbon dioxide that is pumped in to perform the surgery, the IV fluids, the swelling - we're still healing from all that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Terrible head cold and sore throat

I'm 6 days out and am flirting with a cold - hurts so much to cough. Luckily it's mostly stayed away, but I'm not doing my usual battle of Vitamin c overdose, chicken noodle Soup, mucinex. Hope we all feel better soon! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
