Erp, I already have a dress I'd like to wear. I bought it at a thrift store in Brooklyn 3 years ago when I was about a 14 and hoping to fit into a size 12. Obviously I never made it in that direction. After I decided to have surgery, I set it aside to use as my goal. One day I will be posting a picture of myself in it.

Yesterday was my birthday. Today a bunch of my friends and I are going out for drinks and dancing to celebrate. My friend asked me excitedly yesterday what I planned to wear. It dawned on me that I really hadn't thought about it. What am I going to wear? I have a few things that fit that don't make me feel gross. I wear the same things to work and out to dance. Same things to go grocery shopping. Clothes aren't fun. They used to be, and I've never been a small girl, so I don't really know when that changed. I don't know when I stopped thinking of clothes as fun, but I really am looking forward to a day when they do. I'll be getting sleeved in the next few months, and I think that's something I'm going to try and look forward to. Loving having options in my closet again.

Any sleevers doing a ketogenic diet?

Actually, the focus is low carb and high fat. There should be a moderate intake of protein. -
Any sleevers doing a ketogenic diet?

I haven't had my surgery yet, but I've been doing keto for 2 months. I have dropped 25 lbs so far and I feel great. I definitely plan to keep doing it after vsg. Check out the Fitmissbliss blog, she's a VSGer who does keto now too. -
Anyone used this company? What was your experience there? Would you recommend it? Thanks!

I am a social smoker- pretty much just when I'm hanging out with other friends who do, so I'll go weeks without and then have a few one night, then go another few weeks not even thinking about it. It won't be difficult to not do it prior to the surgery. How soon after would I be ok to resume smoking? I know, I know it's bad for me and the best thing to do is just quit forever, but I'm not going to. So if that's your advice, that's ok, but it's not happening. Lol. I enjoy it occasionally. What is the issue with quitting before surgery anyway? Is it because of issues with anesthesia or post-sugical clotting risk or something else? Letting go things I love
SassyScienceNerd replied to Sunshine4247's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's an amazing bakery in New Orleans that makes something called doberge cake and the thought of never tasting it again makes me almost cry. Whenever I run across something I know I'll probably not eat/drink again, I think of something I'm gaining instead. No, I'll never have a slice of heavenly 14-layer doberge cake, but I will be able to fit into a kayak, so when my friends go out for the weekend, I'll be there. I'll be tagged in those pictures, I'll have those memories forever. I won't have a glass of wine on my birthday, but I will fit into adorable knee-high boots and look cute in my birthday pictures. I will go rock climbing with my friends and not be the one huffing and puffing in the back of the group unable to keep up. I will ride a bicycle with my kids. I'll stand around the Water cooler at work and when someone says "I'm training for that 5K in March" I can nonchalantly say "Oh yeah, the Beach Bum Rush, I'm doing that one too," and no one is going to look at me with that patronizing little head tilt and say "Awwww, good for you, I'm sure you'll do great, it's not about how fast you go, it's that you're going to try, lapping everyone on the couch!" So make a little pocket list of things you'll be gaining. Then when you have a craving or start to worry you're going to give up so much, check out the list and see if the trade-off will be worth it. I bet it always will be. -
Another newbie

Thanks Kathy! Yes, I'll be self pay, my insurance doesn't cover the procedure for me without comorbidities, which, thankfully I don't have. I'm thinking probably Mexico. I've received info from the bariatricpal affiliated practices, so I've tucked that away. I'm leaning towards the sleeve procedure, looks like fewer follow ups than the lap band. It's going to take a while to squirrel away enough cash, which will give me plenty of time to settle in and research.
