It's an excellent choice for the soft food stage.

I'm 3 days out and I can't fathom going to work on Monday like I'd hoped. Luckily I can take off some extra time and work from home for a bit as well.

A good dressmaker will be able to recommend a dress style that is easier to take in. Hopefully you don't have a bridezilla and she will take this into account when the dresses are picked.

I had mine yesterday too! My stomach keeps spasming. I'm hoping I'll be in less pain tomorrow. How are you feeling? -

14 days post op 6 wks Pregnant
SassyScienceNerd replied to Marcella Restrepo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weight loss cannot cause a spike in hCG. This particular hormone is only present during pregnancy and is what gives a positive result on a pregnancy test. Seeing that the OP said her levels were at 400, she's seen a practitioner and confirmed the pregnancy with a blood test. -
Dealing with being "the fat one"
SassyScienceNerd replied to soccermom2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Basically all of my friends are fit or a normal weight, and I am the fat one. We live at the beach, so basically all summer, I'm the one in a long dress and a wrap trying not to show my arms.... like I could hide the fact that I'm fat... like no one will know what's under here. Lol. A bunch of them went on a snowboarding trip this winter, and I didn't even get an invite. I know they didn't do it maliciously. They knew I couldn't snowboard or fit in a snowsuit or borrow anyone's gear, so they just didn't ask. I don't want to not be asked anymore. And yes, I'm really looking forward to not being the fat one in the family, too. My grandmother was a ballet dancer until she aged out, but always has been slender and lean. She cannot help but make "helpful" comments all the time. I am really excited for those to be over. -
Digestion issues-2 years post op

Have you had any issues with acid reflux over the last 2 years? Vomiting this late in the game could be a sign of a stricture. -
14 days post op 6 wks Pregnant
SassyScienceNerd replied to Marcella Restrepo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Talk to your surgeon about drugs administered during your surgery and see if any are harmful to a fetus. If you decide to remain pregnant, get with your nutritionist right away to alter your diet and caloric intake to support a healthy pregnancy. If you are not sure you want to continue with the pregnancy, you have about 5-6 weeks to make that decision. Good luck, and if you want private support or someone to talk to, feel free to PM me! -
Anyone else with a surgery date of 4/20/17?

I'm getting mine the 19th. -
Cooking is the biggest challenge for me. I'm a single mom with 2 middle schoolers, so not being able to just use a pizza crust from the store is a pain sometimes. Making dough (almond flour) is messier and takes longer- but it does taste better, so there's that. I'm moving away from substituting carb - heavy items with carb - free items and trying to just plan meals that don't center around carbs at all. The restrictions of the diet itself are fine for me. After a few days, I didn't crave sugars or breads. The fact that keto focuses so much on fats is great, because that rich mouthfeel replaces the sweets and carbs.

I lost 30 lbs on keto in 2 months. I am still pre-surgery, I definitely plan to stay keto after I get my sleeve done on the 19th.

I love Halo Top! The salted caramel, red velvet, and mint chip are my favorites. My kids love it too, it's hard to keep it on hand once they find out it's in the house. Just watch the portion and enjoy it, it's a great treat. And I don't see why you couldn't have it 6 weeks out, it's a soft food.

Telling Friends and Family about surgery
SassyScienceNerd replied to boymomx2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel torn. On one hand, how will people know that surgery isn't the easy fix they think it is unless they are privvy to people in that situation and going through that journey? (ME) The only way to change that perception is to be an example. But right off the bat, I just want to recover and do the work and get my head right. I don't want to also have the additional job of educating the masses and defending my decision and learning how to deal with the sting of jerks who don't get it. Maybe one day I'll be a good surgical ambassador. But that day is not today. -
My doctor wants me on a 2 week liquid diet with ZERO protein shakes or protein scoops allowed, fruit smoothies only. (4-5 per day with water, no milk.) Then says it's to induce ketosis. No broth allowed, either. Just SF jello and Popsicles. Has anyone heard of anything like this? I don't understand how I'm going to stay in ketosis eating nothing but fruit smoothies.

My pre-op diet is weird
SassyScienceNerd replied to SassyScienceNerd's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Right, that was my point too. They recommend 4-5 smoothies per day but warn not to use milk because the carbs in milk will throw me out of ketosis. I'm just puzzled. Also they said my "natural stores of protein" are enough. I've never heard that before. :-/ -

Telling Friends and Family about surgery
SassyScienceNerd replied to boymomx2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've told my best friend. That's it. I am scared to fail. If I do, I don't want anyone knowing about it. We all know this road isn't going to be easy, but the perception is that I'm taking the easy way out. Cheating my way out of obesity. One day I may feel an obligation to stand up for having chosen this path, but right now, I just want to get through it. -
My good friends and I celebrate everything with food. Promotion? Dinner! Birthday? Huge dinner! Good news at work? I'll take you out to lunch! What the heck do we do to celebrate now?

I just shopped some summer sales for loose fitting dresses. I don't want to mess with pants for awhile.

Hi all, I'm just getting started with research (and saving $$) and this forum has been super helpful so far. Just wanted to say hello since I feel weird lurking. I'm a divorced mom of 2 on the east coast, I work full time in pharma development, and I love to run. My love of running is what brought me here, as I am having a very hard time with it due to the excess weight pressure on my knees and hips. My mother is 55 and in a wheelchair now, I don't want mine to be the same fate. Hi new friends!!
