I would check with your surgeon but I agree. It seemed to take longer than I would have thought to feel "back to normal" with no pain. I'm almost 7 weeks post op and I think it was about week 5 or so that I felt like I had no pain around my incision to the right of my belly button. Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal

I am just finishing my purée stage and I start my soft food phase on Tuesday and my packet doesn't have a lot of info about what that means. I know that my doc does not want me eating meat until the next phase in 2 weeks. What were your favorites on the soft food stage? I would love some ideas!!! Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal

Puréed stage in less than 7 days
kalea_04 replied to nervousnelly719's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I talked to my doc about starting early because I was feeling great and ready for purée, but my doc said it isn't about how great you feel it's about letting your stomach heal. I would suggest talking to your doc before moving to the next stage early. I was on liquids for 4 weeks and it's hard but it makes the purée stage that much better!!! Good luck Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal -
My doc has me on liquid only for 4 weeks, then I move to 2 weeks of purée food, 2 weeks of soft food and then FINALLY onto a regular diet. So I'm 10 days post op and trying to start prepping for the next phase (a little early lol) but I just can't seem to figure out how this phase works. I'm really nervous about this stage. I just can't imagine taking normal food and blending it up to eat. So I'm trying to think of things that already are considered purée like applesauce. But I can't live on applesauce for 2 weeks..... I see that some are posting that they ate eggs. So do I have to blend up the egg before I eat it? Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? I'm just really nervous about this stage because I feel like I have no idea what to eat!!! Help! Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal

Oh and drink and track your Water. If I focus more on tracking my water, Proteins, Vitamins, etc it helps to distract as well. I was drinking 100oz of water per day and it really helped! Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal

You can do this!!! I was off/on clear liquid for 7 months prior to my surgery. Believe me I was not perfect. I'm not going to lie I ate a lot of Popsicles haha which helped with my sugar cravings. If you don't let yourself get hungry it makes it easier. So drink as many Proteins as you can and I think eating broth like Soup rather than drinking it helped me feel like I'm eating. If you get the munchies I would just get up and find some thing to do. My friend told me to do planks. I didn't do them very well but I actually really liked that advice because it was usually late and I didn't want to do a full workout but it was better than just sitting on the couch thinking about food. I also got on here and read posts and discussions which was really helpful and motivating. Good luck!!! You've got this!!! Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal

Purée Diet - I'm so lost
kalea_04 replied to kalea_04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just started my purée stage 2 days ago and doing great!! Thanks for all the ideas above. I've done yogurt, cheddar broccoli soup, and I made pinto Beans and pureed them rather than doing canned. Tonight I made cauliflower but it got stuck. It felt like it was just sitting in my throat so I'm thinking no more cauliflower for me has anyone else experienced this? Positive - I totally understand. I was on a liquid diet for 4 weeks after surgery so I JUST started my purée stage 2 days ago. My last week of pure liquid I gagged very time I drank Protein. I was doing a cold chocolate shake. I moved to do a hot protein which really helped. Now I am doing lemon tea and out a splash of mango juice in it (not sure if I'm supposed to but it helps me get my protein down) and use ice to make it as cold as possible. I'm actually enjoying this kind of protein! My doc expects that I drink 3 Proteins a day for the rest of my life so I will definitely have to change up my protein quite frequently I'm sure. My doc said it is super normal to start HATING protein since that's all we've been drinking. What stage of food are you on? Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal

I had surgery on the 9th and I'm on clear liquid for a month as well. I begged my doctor on Friday to let me start puree and his response was "hell no" haha. He said that the staples are not strong enough to handle more than liquid right now. I told him that I can't even stand the thought of Protein anymore and he said that is very normal but to keep plugging away. Less than 1.5 weeks away and I finally get to move to the purée stage. I'm having a hard time getting my Water and protein down but I know it's for the best. Hang in there!!!! We can do this! Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal

I just had WLS on the 9th and I am doing the clear liquid. I was on and off clear liquid for 6 months prior to my surgery and every time I cheated (which was often) I would feel the same way. I feel like something in my brain clicked after surgery (at least so far). I have not cheated once since my surgery and have been doing clear liquid for 25 days (pre and post op combined). I was getting a scoop of PB for my son the other day and got some on my finger and I almost licked it off but I didn't!!! I wiped it off on a napkin. It might seem silly but I was so proud of myself. I'm sitting at my 2 weeks post op appt right now and I've lost 15 lbs since my surgery for a total of 45. We all mess up, but just get back on course. You can do this!!!!! I think probably everyone had the same doubts as you before surgery but look how many success stories you see on here!!! Good luck!!! Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal

How long was your hospital stay?
kalea_04 replied to Angie74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went into surgery at 3:30pm and was released at 11pm that same night. For sleeve, my doctor prefers patients to go home the same day if possible. My surgery went well with no complications so I was released the same day. Every doc/surgery is different. I have a 3 year old at home and it was nice to be home but I had family helping my husband with him for a couple of days while my husband took care of me. Good luck!!
