Dumping from medication and vitamins?
relientKitten posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last night was day 4 post-op. Before bed I took the following things: liquid Hydrocodone/Tylenol (contains sucrose) Centrum Chewable Vitamin (contains sucrose) Lamotrigine ODT (contains sucralose) Zyrtec Dissolving Tablet (contains sucralose) I dumped so badly I had my husband running for something for me to throw up in (didn't vomit but damn do I wish I had if it'd have made the feeling pass more quickly.) I had taken the Hydrocodone, Lamotrigine, and Zyrtec together the night before just fine so I'm guessing the addition of the vitamin is what threw it over? I didn't plan to take it that late but I'd spent the afternoon napping so I was off-schedule for my Vitamins. Has anyone else dumped on medication and/or vitamins? How do you find ones that don't contain real sugar (sucrose)? (I had to Google my meds to find out what the sweeteners in them were.) How much time between sugar-containing things do you wait to take the next one?- 5 replies

Prenatal vitamins for bypass?!
relientKitten replied to mmy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have 12-18 months before you can safely get pregnant. Talk to your surgeon and ask them about timing, then talk to your nutritionist and ask them about prenatals. Most folks don'the start prenatal until they are ready to start trying to conceive so I think you have plenty of time to worry about it. -
2 days out and HUNGRY!
relientKitten replied to RouxDude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day three, just started the full liquid diet. Sitting here sipping my protein shake and it is going down way too easily--could easily finish the 8oz in half an hour if I weren't making myself take my time. Not really feeling hungry though. My mother made pizza for her and my critter last night and while it smelled good I had no desire to eat any. Every person is different I guess. -
All of my gas stayed in my belly. I used an ice pack on my belly and they put lidocaine straps on there too which actually seemed to help. Keep walking, burplease whenever you feel the need, and pray for that first fart. Mine did not happen until late the second day but it was glorious, lol! After that the gas starts to expel more often and now, morning of day three, I have no gas pain at all. Sitting on the toilet actually helps loosen up your bowels so you can pass gas more easily--I would just sit there for 10 minutes to let the gas work it's way through and eventually it worked. Just don'the force it or you will regret it. Good luck!

How the hell do I get through this?
relientKitten replied to befitnotskinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 10 days of pre-op liquids. I went in with the understanding that his was necessary for my next step in life. Even while my husband was grilling chicken and burgers while we entertained guests, I found I was actually okay with my Glucerna. I was sick of them after 10 days (I was having GI trouble with them that was preventing me from eating much else) but was grateful that I stuck to it completely because if they had needed to cancel.my surgery due to my liver still being too large, I would have been even more upset with myself. -
I went in to my pre-op testing with the assumption I would expect to be there for four hours since that is what I was told to prepare for. I was in and out in less than an hour. They asked me lots of questions, pulled blood for testing, and that was it. I had already had an EKG during a pre-op visit two months prior, my sleep apnea was no longer an issue (I had lots of nose/throat surgeries for it), and I had already done an endoscopy six months prior because of some GI issues. The pre-op visit was easy-peasy. It really just depends on what your co-morbidities are and what tests they need to run. Good luck!

I'm having my surgery at Emory Midtown tomorrow with Dr. Lin. No idea how long medicaid takes to respond. But, as soon as they do approve, you will be scheduled for a pre-op nutrition class (available every Tuesday and Thursday from 9a-10:30a). Two days after my class I heard back from Dr. Lin's assistant with my surgery date (originally less than two weeks out from the date she called but I asked for another week to sort out schedules.) Best of luck!

What are/were you looking forward to being able to do post-surgery?
relientKitten replied to Maloneymommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm looking forward to being able to play with my critter without getting winded--I can chase the soccer ball around for a couple minutes now and then I am done. I want his energy! I'm looking forward to wearing non-plus-size clothes. I want to wear the cute stuff! I'm looking forward to being able to walk a 5k by the end of the year. -
My surgery is tomorrow as well. :x I'm anxious to get it over with! I had lots of weird dreams last night and in all of them my surgery got postponed. Not expecting much sleep tonight.

Psyche eval and anti depression meds
relientKitten replied to Autumn Riley Arnold's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a type-2 bipolar with anxiety (treated) who also does emotional and boredom eating. I was between psychiatrists at the time because my prior one was an idiot so I saw one of the psychologists my surgery site recommended to have my eval done. His eval required me to take six different tests regarding my personality, how I approached eating, and my history. I take tests very quickly so it took me about an hour but he planned for three hours. Afterward we sat down and talked about the test results, my history with my mental illness, my family history, my eating habits, and my expectations of surgery. I was cleared by him for surgery but with the suggestions of becoming settled with a new psychiatrist for at least two months and seeing a psychologist/therapist for at least three visits regarding the emotional and boredom eating. He gave me suggested persons for both, whom I am now seeing regularly. It's really not that bad, honest. Just takes a chunk of time and money. -
Has anyone had experience with United health care?
relientKitten replied to vandernoordh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If all of your Is are dotted and Ts are crossed, response time from UHC should be quick. If anything is out of place, though... (UHC Plus so no pre-op diet but took three months to approve because they kept needing more paperwork. Approval took less than two weeks from when the final paperwork was submitted.) -
Atlanta: Anyone else starting the process?
relientKitten replied to eoconnell24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm towing the line between Decatur and Tucker and just got my surgery approval yesterday. It's been one hell of a ride--insurance requested new paperwork three times and forced us to re-submit completely (without a denial) once. I'll be at Emory Midtown and have my last nutrition appointment next week. I'm hoping for an early June surgery date. Good luck to you!
