    Gastric bypass

I don't understand why people say "Oh you don't need the surgery". Like, if we didn't need it, it wouldn't crossed our minds. Sometimes, losing the weight is not the problem, but maintaining it. Then on the flip side, we may lose 10-20 lbs with no problem and then hit a hard plateau. So, we need a tool to help us out. I notice that when I start explaining why I'm doing this the way that I just explained it, they are better to understand my pov. OP just explain that this tool is going to save your life and she'll understand. Even if she doesn't, you have taken the steps needed to get healthier. to be honest, I'm scared of the loose skin, as well. But I'm going to attempt (once again) to get into weight lifting. I think I have a date!

Congrats! I'm feeling the exact same way. The feeling of just wanting to get it over with nerves. April 7 will be here before you know it.
  4. Hey Yall, So, met the surgeon today. All systems go, except my a1c last month was 13 (I know, I know), but I get it recheck when I get my lab work done for my Endocrinologist this week, so please pray that It dropped to 10 and under. I'm just a tad worried, but I've been watching my portions, carbs, sugars closely since then and I've seen a significant improvement since that date. He said once that's good, then they will schedule me. I'm assuming that they have already sent the paperwork to my insurance, so I'm hoping to hear something back this week (I'm claiming it) Did anyone else have this problem?
  5. Well, I had the sleep study Wednesday night. Doctor called with the results today. I have mild to moderate sleep apnea and have to wear a mask. So, they fitted me for a cpap before they got started, just in case during the middle of the night, they had to put it on. I didn't need it apparently (unless they slipped it on when I was knocked out) so I'm a little surprised, but not really surprised. Well that was it for the pre-op tests. Meet with surgeon on Monday and then they can submit to Anthem. My b-day is next month, so the surgery date will be an awesome birthday present.

    Approved!

Congrats! Now, is it normal for them to request a ECD or it's just something that the insurance want in addition to?

    Bypass vs Sleeve

I actually started the journey with the sleeve in mind, but the NP said that it wasn't a good idea with my history of gerd. And since I had some bacon this morning and had reflux episode, I'm kinda glad she talked me into the bypass.

Not sure who I should tell!

Just say that I've already made up my mind and it's my decision. I mean you never know. Thus far, the people who I thought would judge me the most have been supportive. It's a catch 22, but no matter that person's views on the matter, it's your life. Think about it this way, would we rather take the opinion of someone dictation of how we should live our life and then die by not doing anything or we do this surgery and use it as a tool to save our lives? I vote for the latter. Once I put it like this, they were like Ok we get it, especially when I explained that the gastric bypass would put my diabetes in remission.
  9. I'm only 3 months into the 6 month diet/exercise. I have had all of my appointments/evaluations. Did an Oxygen study at home last night. Waiting to hear back to see if I need to do the sleep study or not. Where are you from in VA? I just moved to NC 1.5 years ago from Harrisonburg, VA. I would have never even considered WLS if I hadn't moved here. I am still in the "Whatever" mode right now because I know it will still be awhile yet. Just trying to keep myself busy. Good luck to you! I"m in Richmond area. Good to see another Virginian. Yeah I was in the whatever mode at first and then I got more excited. My 6 month supervised doc visit ended today. Yeah keeping busy eases the anxiousness I've notice. Good luck to you, as well

    Girl Scout Cookies

I think I did pretty good. I brought 2 boxes of Thin Mints, 1 for me and 1 for my mom. So far, I've just been following the allowed serving size, which is 4. Plus I'm drinking lemon Water to help curb any cravings, since I'm on a strict carb allowance.
  11. Just say "Thank you for your concern, but I got this" and walk away. That's the only way to really deal in a respectful matter. You don't have to read or shade them, but kill them with tactiful kindness. Technically speaking, you don't know that person from Adam's paint, so she didn't need an explanation. So don't be ashame to say none of your business.

    Long wait to April...

I'm looking at April or May too. I have my last and final 6 month supervised visit on March 3rd. I passed my psych evaluation and nutrition consult. Now just need to get the sleep study done and they will send everything over.

    Sodas

I'm in the process of weaning myself off of sodas. Hopefully, for good.
