    Time is ticking away!

I'm going to try, really really REALLY hard!!!! Even when I'm sure I'm going to starve hahaha! We are almost surgery date twins!!! I really hope it goes well for you too! If I end up with a full blown cut down my stomach, I'm getting a tattoo of a zipper to cover it! hahaha! It seems it takes so long, then BAM... it's here! Good luck!!

    Birthday drinks?

My doctor told me 90 days... And I think even after that you have to be careful because absorption is different, so basically you become a cheap drunk Not to mention you don't want to transfer 'food' addictions to 'alcohol' addiction... I'm going to visit my dad in June, and he always has the nicest bottles of red wine with dinner... I will definitely smell them, but no drinking for me
  3. It's bee a roller-coaster with the communication at my doctor's office, but I am very happy to report that I finally have my surgery date!! I go in tomorrow for a pre-op diet class and then over to the hospital for an EKG, final blood draw, and chest x-ray... Then I guess I start my diet the next day (not sure yet) And surgery on May 16th!!!!! So excited! So ready!
  4. You are looking fantastic! Congratulations on such a great job you've done
  5. I am having my surgery on May 16th... go in tomorrow for my pre-op/diet appointment. I'm not sure exactly what my diet will entail, but I'm thinking liquids only for 10 days... I'm sure I'll be on here whining about this soon! LOL So exciting, and so surreal... I can't wait, yet, I'm nervous too... I just really hope it all goes well!

    Packing for Surgery...

Am I the only one that has told my spouse to stay home? Drive me there, hang around during the day and tell me you love me, but then, go home and sleep in our bed! Don't stay up there with me... I'm good. Come back the next day and have time with me, but then go home and go to sleep in our bed... I do have a friend that is a nurse in the hospital where I'll be having my surgery, and she's going to pick up shifts on my surgery days so she'll be there to keep an eye on me (and make me get out of bed and walk walk walk LOL)... but otherwise, I want my hubby at home at night. I'm weird I guess

Post Bypass Surgery foods I can eat

I think most people forgo the bun on a burger, or the crust on a pizza, because they are counting their carbs and know that getting your carbs from complex ones is healthier. During the 'honeymoon' stage especially it's probably best to not eat things like simple carbs just so you can lose as much weight during that time as possible. As you get into the maintenance phase, then adding things like bread, rice, crusts, etc is doable - in Moderation. You just have to want to do this. It's not unlike any other 'dieting way of life'... you don't eat the crap foods while you are trying to lose. Having WLS only gives you a tool to make it easier and quicker to lose and to keep it off. You can't expect to still eat crap foods and lose weight. The bottom line is you are trying to get healthier, and part of that is losing weight. The other part is making good choices.
  10. I don't know about them cancelling your surgery, but I feel for you... toothaches are the worst! Good luck! Hopefully they can get the infection under control quickly!
  11. I love this! 'Joey' is pretty cute! I'm going to have to think about this... my friend's daughter's name is Joey, so I'd feel weird calling my pouch 'Joey'... I named my CPAP... Horton. There's no doubt I'll be naming my pouch, I just know it

    One Month Post-Op Thoughts

Great thoughts, thanks for sharing! I haven't had my surgery yet, and I spend way too much time here waiting to read stuff just like this! You're doing a great job! Keep it up

    New journey... New life

What a journey! Congratulations on your successes!
  14. I haven't had my surgery yet, but my last attempt to lose with low carb, I lost exactly as you say... weeks with nothing, then BAM, 4-8 lbs gone in a day or two... Mine always happened the week I started my period. Since that last big weight loss (and regain + some... sigh) I've had a hysterectomy, so I'm really curious what'll happen now... I just wish my doctor would get my approval letter in the mail and we can get on with this! (My insurance said the letter was mailed out last Friday, I haven't gotten my copy, and I don't think my doc has gotten his copy yet either... I'm getting VERY impatient waiting!)

    Nsv

Congratulations! Every step counts! I've signed up for my second Color Run in October... I'm still pre-op, and I did the last one, but boy did I hurt afterwards. I'm really hoping I'll be in much better shape by October to do the ones I'm doing which will be Post Op!

    Health insurance

I have BCBS of TX. There was no waiting period, or supervised diet plans that I know of. Of course, I had plenty of documented weight loss attempts prior. You had to have a minimum BMI of 35 I think with 1 of the listed co morbidities, or a BMI of 40+ without any comorbidities.

    I got approved

    Congratulations!!!

    Goodwill shopping help

We have local resale shops where people bring their nicer things to consign. You might want to google around your area, because they have really nice quality/brands in the local ones around me. And they are separated by size and type, and they also have really great bags (Coach, etc)...

    My weight loss journey

A job well done! You look great and it sounds like the health benefits are fantastic too!
  21. Chiming in late, but I'm going to be 51 on Thursday, and will be having my surgery soon too! I have looked over on the 50 and over page, but not a lot of people post over there... maybe we need to bring it back to life with new blood I'm so excited about my new chance to be slim, but a little bummed about the likelihood of all the excess skin. Someone needs to invent a magical skin shrinking cream for us! LOL Good Luck! See you on the other side for sure!
  22. Wow! Huge changes! Great inspiration for me! Keep up your super work!
  23. Great job! You look so happy! Glad it's all working out for you
  24. Well it wasn't denied exactly, but my insurance said the doctor's office didn't send over the 'codes'... of course, I'm not sure I believe them, as this is what this girl does every single day - and has for the last 7 years... but whatever. It's there now, and they say they have what they need... now I'm just waiting for them to approve it - which they should because we got a pre-approval, and I've done everything they needed me to do. I'm anxious too! It looks like it'll be May for me... which is a bummer because we are leaving for Florida mid June and I really wanted to be pretty healed by then
