    Stall again!

Prior to surgery, when I had so much success on Low Carb this was how I lost... the week of my period I would lose a pound or more each day for several days in a row, then BAM. I'd stop until my next cycle... it was quite frustrating, but after a few months I owned it and learned to just wait. I have since had a hysterectomy - although I still have my ovaries - and I'm much older (51).... now I have no idea what'll happen. So far since surgery I've been losing daily, but I know that will only last a short period of time, then I guess I'll have to learn how my body wants to lose again this time around. Hang in there!

    Hydration/Dry Mouth

@@amysmara I think all doctor's are different. My doctor has me on all liquids for 10 days until my follow up appointment. I meet him tomorrow. Then I get to move on to pureed foods. Two weeks on those, then soft foods. Then two weeks on that and I can start to introduce regular foods to my diet.
  3. 30 pounds in 2 months is good. Some of the people that have lost more than you at the same time period may have a higher BMI, which means they will lose faster. Other's may be younger than you, and they too will lose faster. You may be on a plateau right now, and next week you might be 10lbs lighter the next morning. Having a good attitude is important. Making sure not only that you are getting your protein and water, but that you are also NOT getting things you shouldn't have (at all) are important. You can add more exercise, but at this point in the game, you shouldn't have to. Hang in there, and I bet things start back down soon!

    Pain....help.....

I hope you're feeling better today! I think I overdid it earlier today, and the existing pain in my left side radiated through to my back. I took a pain pill, put my heating pad behind me on the recliner, and took a nap. It felt much better when I woke up This part is tough, but honestly it's just our bodies healing, and trying to get rid of that gas they blow us up with... As long as you are drinking and getting your Protein in, then you know you're doing a great job (of course, if any pain lasts too long, you should definitely call the doc)

    New rny

I had my surgery on MOnday. My Protein has to come from the three my NUT and surgeon recommend. Barbaric Advantage, Chike, and New Direction (I think). It has something to do with the type of protein these deliver. I'm on all liquids (3 4oz protein shakes/day plus 64 oz water) for the first 10 days... Then on puréed foods for 2 weeks (I think I can get pretty creative with this one LOL)... And then finally soft foods for 2 weeks (We will be in Florida for the beginning of this visiting my dad... I want lots of fish and crab! LOL) I can use high protein skim milks in my shakes if I'd like to to get more protein and a few calories in during the beginning.
  6. I had my surgery on Monday, home on Wednesday. I'm not up to my 64 ounces of Water just yet. I am at 56 ounces if you include the water for the Protein, so I guess I'm actually going to get it in today! Woo Hoo! I feel pretty good overall, but I'm still pretty sore on the left side. I keep having these half hiccup/burps that really hurt! And I'm tired of sweet drinks. I've added some beef bouillon today, but I can't remember if that counts in my total count for liquids... My post surgery notes only mention the Protein Drinks I should be drinking (4oz/3 times a day)

    Pain....help.....

I had my surgery on the 16th. I've been taking short walks... my doctor used the 4,5,6... walk 4-5 times for 6 minutes each time. I have had that shooting pain on my left side too. Last night I took a Gasx, and in the middle of the night I 'released' plenty of that gas HAHAHA...it actually woke me up, and I was impressed with the amount that 'left' I keep trying to concentrate on the fact that I am able to hold liquids down, drink my little 4oz Protein shakes, and haven't opened the bottle for nausea. I figure the pain in my stomach, mostly on my left side, will heal. Hang in there!

    2 days out and HUNGRY!

I too had my RNY on Monday! I got home yesterday, and the tacos my family had smelled ok, but I had no desire whatsoever for them. Of course, I still have a lot of pain on my left side, and am still taking my pain meds. I'm doing good to get my 4 ounces of protein shake 3 xs a day and water requirements down.
  9. So my first inclination was to keep quiet about my surgery here at work... but it seems that I can't quite do that! First I started out telling a couple of people I really like and feel close to. Then it's just snowballed into more. Just now, I was in the kitchen getting Water in my shaker container for my 'snack', and a young guy that works close to me - but we rarely do more than exchange pleasantries - was in the kitchen and started asking me about my shaker glass... I said I was having an afternoon Protein shake snack, and then he asked what kind of powder it was (He's a little body building type, cute as a button, and very hard bodied, so I'm sure he was just curious since I know he drinks Protein shakes all the time). I guess I didn't answer right away, as my mind was trying to process what to say, when he said "Is it Herbalife or something like that?"... And I guess that irritated me (I'm on my pre-op, I get irritated easily right now hahaha) because he was just figuring I was doing some kind of weight loss miracle diet. So I told him it was Bariatric Advantage... I could see the wheels turning in his head, trying to figure out if he recognized the brand... and then I just blurted out "Well actually I'm having weight loss surgery on Monday, and this is part of my pre-op diet" HAHAHA... there was a moment of silence, then he started asking me how long I'd be out of work, etc. So I'm letting the proverbial 'cat out of the bag' here... What the hell, I'm going to start losing weight quickly (I hope!), on the heels of being out of the office for 1.5 weeks... might as well get it out there now, rather than have them talk about me. I still haven't told me dad... ROFLMAO... there are some people I'll just wait until after surgery to tell

    May bypass group!

Yes, Hope everyone that's had their surgery is doing well! I'm getting nervous! Less than a week to go! My pre-op is almost too easy and I feel like it should be harder... however I start all liquids on Friday... only 3 days though. Monday, May 16th... you'll be here before I know it! Ack!!!

Hospital stay... To bra or not to bra?

My boobs hurt if I don't have a bra on shortly after waking up everyday! I'm going to need a bra, and I'm just going to have to ask for help. Considering my age, and how huge my boobs are, they aren't nearly as saggy as they could be. I'd like to try and keep it that way until they just shrink and I'm left with empty bags hanging on my chest

    About me

Thanks! I am getting nervous, but I know that's normal. I just want to get through those first weeks where it seems some people are so miserable! LOL I hope I'm not one of them Have you decided how you're going to handle your insurance? I think you should just go in and see your doctor, and let his insurance advocate handle it the best way they know how. They're good at stuff like that.

    Drinking and eating

My surgery is next Monday... I've practiced this no drinking thing on and off for the past couple of months... it really makes me slow down and have to think. I've not been hardcore about it though, I've read that it's just going to be easier on the other side. I used to have this rationale that if I drank a soda with a really big meal (when I really wanted to pig out) then I could eat more because the burps would open up more space... :::shaking my head::::

    New

My doctor is a stickler about sleep apnea and requires a sleep study, and if you don't have your cpap with you the morning of surgery, he will cancel your surgery. Prior to surgery, I had to have the sleep study test (which I failed and now Horton and I sleep together every night), blood draws, EKG, PFG, 3 NUT appointments, Physical Therapy evaluation, some kind of test for acid in my stomach, and then just a few days ago I had a Pre-op appointment which included another blood draw, another EKG, and a chest x-ray. My surgery is on May 16th, less than a week away! OMG!

    About me

I bet it all depends on your insurance company. I knew about the BMI expectations/ approvals before I went to see my doctor for the first time. I too was about 17lbs too light... I gained that before going to see my doctor. Let us know how it goes! good luck

My surgery is May 16th. I've learned so much reading on this board. The mindset, the realities about post surgery blues, the ups and downs. Menu ideas, etc. Each doctor is also so dang different! Jump in and enjoy Knowledge is power
  22. That stinks! The sleep study can usually uncover sleep apnea, at least that's what my doctor said... and I have 'Horton' to prove it It really is awful that they want to wait until you are truly sick before they'll do something to help now! I will be thinking about you, and hoping you can get this approved soon!

    Time is ticking away!

Yes, a shark attack while I was surfing off the coast of Hawaii... I like it! hahaha!
  24. So Yesterday morning I arrived at the doctor's office. A short Nutrition breakdown, LOTS of paperwork signing (Yes, I will pay if my insurance doesn't, yes, I agree to a full blow cut down the middle of my stomach if the planned laparoscopic surgery plan needs to be changed.) a short Powerpoint discussion on what's going to happen, and a few other hurried consultations - oh, and of course, buying the shakes/snacks/soups that my doctor requires after surgery (my doc doesn't like the Protein combinations in Premier Protein shakes, and I've agreed to drink the alternate - at least in the beginning). Then I was off to the hospital for a pre-op meeting there and a few tests - EKG, Chest xray and another blood draw - dang we give a lot of blood for this! LOL And of course, because I like torture, I also had my second eye cataract surgery later that afternoon LOL My pre-op diet doesn't look too bad on paper... first 7 days goes like this: Breakfast - 8oz shake Snack - one of the bars I bought here's a link: http://www.bariatricdirect.com/vanilla-crisp-bar-p/barfluffyvanilla.htm?utm_content=Fluffy%20Vanilla%20Crisp%20Bar&gclid=CJeY14nhwMwCFYIBaQodee8AVg&Click=1504&utm_source=ShoppingFeeds&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=GoogleShopping&utm_term=BARFLUFFYVANILLA OR Protein Drink like this: http://www.bariatricdirect.com/peach-mango-drink-p/condrinkpeach.htm Lunch: 2-4 ounces lean meat, 1/2C steamed non-starchy veggies OR 1C salad (lowfat dressing) Snack - another bar or drink dinner - 1/2 shake 2-4 ounces lean meat, 1/2 C steamed veggie or 1C salad Snack - bar or drink Unlimited sugar free Jello or popsicles The last 2 days are all liquids... shakes, drinks, broth, plus the popsicles and jello. Nothing after midnight on the 15th of May. Then I show up on Monday, May 16th to go to sleep and wake up on the Loser's Bench! I can't wait!!!! Now I'm wondering when the whiney part will start! LOL
