I think you'll find a large amount of WLS candidates are going to have low Vitamin D levels... being overweight somehow makes us more susceptible to this. It didn't affect my surgery date

What kind of Protein drinks are you using? Bariatric Advantage and Chike both offer 30G or protein with only 7-9 ounces of Fluid. That makes it pretty easy to get down 2-3 drinks a day. I have experienced the foamies now twice. It seems to only happen to me with meat. I can eat (2oz) of cottage cheese, hummus, grilled salmon, grilled cod, tuna fish with a bit of mayo and I do fine... ground turkey meatloaf and shredded chicken salad, not so much. I'm 3 weeks out. I also found this Protein Drink that isn't all milky which has 40G of protein in 20ounces... not too bad, and more like drinking flavored Water (albeit being a bit too sweet). I hope you improve soon! We are still at the beginning stages, and our pouches just don't want too much right now...

Yup. Rice is not a Protein... my NUT has me avoiding all simple carbs, such as rice, bread, and potatoes... carrots/peas too. I'm 3 weeks out and pushed my pouch this weekend too with chicken salad We will learn! I'm on all liquids and am going to get some chinese Soup for lunch! -

Don't fret the foods... I had my bypass on the 16th of May. While I've been a textbook case, when I've tried to incorporate too much (or new) foods, I've take a back step twice now. Do what you can, and as long as you are getting in decent amounts of Water, you are doing well! What meds are you having to crush and take?

Traveling/ vacation after surgery

I am travelling at 4 weeks out. I am 3 weeks today, I'm tolerating pureed/soft foods pretty well (with the exception of twice), and I feel pretty good. I leave for Florida on the 18th. -
Furious and back to ER I go!

@@amysmara I was born just outside of Pittsburgh... my family lives so close to Kennywood, that we used to walk there! I was raised in Houston, spent time in Chicago and NE of Atlanta... and now I'm in Oklahoma! LOL @@kristin42081 I live NW of Oklahoma City now. Who is your doctor? I used Dr. Ronnie Keith! I can't imagine that you could get it down to the normal range without medication or the surgery. I think you've shown a good attempt at trying... I hope he feels the same way. Keep us posted!

I had RNY 3 weeks ago and my doctor had my drain tube removed in the hospital just before I went home. Like the others say, it doesn't hurt being removed, but boy does it feel weird! All doctors are different. Ask yours how long/if they use one -

Welcome I had my surgery on the 16th of May. I am just behind you I was released to pureed/soft foods, and have done well with an exception last night... I guess I'm not ready for ground turkey meatloaf yet. It was a horrible experience, and I've dedicated today (Saturday) to liquids only... Other than that little mishap, I am doing well! I have eaten (successfully) hummus, cottage cheese, ricotta bake - eggface's recipe, and salmon, tuna, and cod. Love this adventure, and am looking forward to future successes! -
What to get before surgery

I have a picky NUT, and I was only supposed to use Bariatric Advantage, Chike, and New Direction Protein powders for the first 6 months. It has to do with whey Protein Isolates being the main ingredient, and supposedly the best type of protein to absorb after RNY. You can always check with your NUT to see what they recommend. I love Premier Protein, and drank them for Breakfast every day prior to surgery. ChapStick for the hospital... Heating pad was really nice, and I actually use it now, 3 weeks post-op, because I'm always cold, so I sleep with it at night (it turns off after a couple of hours). I drank hot and sour Soup, strained, from the local Chinese restaurant. My nurse said it was OK as long as it was strained, and it gave me a different option from the plain chicken/beef broths. I really crave savory foods now, I'm so over sweet stuff! LOL sugar free Jello and popsicles are great too! -
Very Emotional - Pre-Op Diet

The whole process is very emotional, but yes, the pre-op diet is very hard at times. You are grieving a way of life that just won't be the same after the surgery (at least for a very long time, and hopefully never, if you put your mind to it)... and let's be honest... you are HUNGRY. I found myself pissed at the world about food. Every commercial with food in it irritated me. Watching my family eat ticked me off, made me sad, and at times I even teared up. I'm not that far along. I am 3 weeks post-op on Monday... My surgery was a textbook case, I am healing well, and have been able to introduce pureed/soft foods into my diet. I had a little hiccup with that yesterday and found myself frustrated and in tears again. I know some Vets will come along, and I know they will tell you great things about their journey! Really, I found that pre-op diet to be the most torturous! But you can do it, and the part that's hard to wrap your mind around is that, every pound you lose now is part of the big picture... it's not going to come back in a month! Remember that! How to get in enough protein? (1 week post op)

I love Premier Protein, however, my doctor/NUT doesn't want me drinking it the first 6 months... they want me drinking protein with whey Protein isolate instead of a mixture like Premier has in it. (I believe it has Milk protein first) Now that being said, lots of doctor's approve Premier. I'm just telling it as my NUT tells me... that we can't absorb as easily. I drink Bariatric Advantage, New Direction, and Chike. There are other's out there, and I'm going to be on the search once these are gone because I'm getting tired of them LOL -

My Doctor is Ronnie Keith in Oklahoma City. I was lucky and was able to do a sleep study at home. Once I did that it only took a few days to get back in to the sleep study office and pick up my cpap. I tried on different ones, and came up with the best solution for me.

I'm doing OK! I'm a little tired of Protein drinks, so I think I'm going to order some of the unflavored protein and find other things to drink other than the milky chocolate/vanilla drinks... I'd like a savory choice I think! Maybe I'll get the Soups and just add more protein to it. I'm pleased with my weight loss, but I wish I could tell a difference... none of my clothes really fit any different, but my rings are big on me (and I've worn these rings when I was much skinnier!). I think my face is less swollen looking, but I'm positive that's because I'm off the carbs. The pains in the abdomen are so much better, almost back to normal there! How are you feeling other than the hiccups? How's your recovery going?

You've done such a fantastic job! You should be proud of yourself! That belly will go away, and now that you've lost so much from other parts of your body, you will have no choice but for the fat to come from the middle section much faster in the last part of your journey! Keep up the great work!

I was released for soft/pureed foods last Thursday (I'm 17 days out)... I made some chili with a mixture of beef/turkey... I took a small spoonful of it and started chewing, but I noticed the meat really wouldn't get mushy enough for my comfort... I spit it out. I may have done that more than once...

Severe Hunger Pangs

Huh, I've noticed that I am getting 'hunger pangs'... almost a growling of the stomach. I am 17 days post op. My doctor doesn't prescribed prilosec... I can get them to go away if I really concentrate on Water and get down as much as I can, in a short period of time. I wonder if I should try some prilosec... do ya'll take the pills, or is there a chewable one? Thanks! -
Is it right after you eat? I've seen people talk about hiccups being an indication of eating too much for the new pouch... I haven't had bonafied hiccups, but I've had like 1 hiccup and right after surgery it was painful... now I don't seem to have them at 2.5 weeks out.
