  1. I'm 9 weeks out. While it's been a little challenging, I've found that attitude is key. I've eaten out several times... I've either ordered Soup (early on when I couldn't eat any kind of solids), or things like hummus or fish. I have had things stuck a few times now. I've learned/ am learning that my pouch isn't ready for dense meats yet. But that's OK because I have always found something I can eat on the menu. I have the papaya tablets. I've tried them a few times... it seems that you really need to chew on more than 1 or 2 to really get them to help. Last time something was sitting heavy, I ate 5 of them, and in about an hour I felt much better.

    RNY 7/20/16

Not every Walmart sells the different flavors, but I did noticed both Sam's club by me had them this weekend and they were on sale. I bought 2 cases. I'm jealous! My Sam's had the regular three flavors on sale, but we haven't had the new ones there yet!

    My Story

I got sweet and sour soup from the local chinese store and strained all the veggies out. It was the best broth ever! It's a hard time right now, but soon you'll be on to pureed foods, and while they aren't a ton more exciting, at leaset you have a little variety there! Hang in there, this too shall pass!

    Hair loss

Protein! You have to be vigilant and get in the recommended amount of Protein (or more) to help. But from what I've read, even that only helps to a point. The Biotin, like other's have said, will help with the regrowth, but not the falling out part. I'm 9 weeks post op today... it hasn't started with me yet, but when my thyroid went wonky a few years back I had a ton of hair loss, so I know what is to come.

    Sex ?

I think it depends on the kind of sex you have to be quite honest! LOL 4 weeks is probably about where I was, but I wanted things kind of healed before we started up on that. This weekend, 9 weeks post op, was pretty amazing because I'm all healed and no reason to hold anything back in that department

4 weeks! What are you eating?

I'm 8 weeks out. at 4 weeks, I was still on soft/pureed foods... I ate A LOT of hummus, cottage cheese, egg drop Soup from the local chinese place, and more hummus (hahaha). If I went out to eat, I'd order a soup (tomato bisque was one)... I think I started on tuna at that point as well, mixed with a little mayo to keep it wet. Crab cakes that I made at home to keep the bread crumbs low, and of course Egg faces Ricotta bake!

    Amusement park rides ?

You have wounds that are barely healed on the outside, let alone on the inside... you have staples holding your stomach and intestines together... at 2 weeks you can barely eat 'real' food. The doctor's don't release us for heavy lifting/ exertions for 6 weeks so our insides can heal. Riding a coaster is an exertion. Don't ride a coaster now.

    Feeling shakey in the AM

Maybe your blood sugars are low? Have you started b12 injections yet? I've noticed an improvement when I started that. I'm jealous that you can eat anything... I'm still really struggling with meat. I miss meats.... LOL When you talk to the doc, let us know what he says!

    When to start B12

My doctor started me on B12 injections at 6 weeks . My other vitamins were a stepping process, starting some at 2 weeks, others at 6 weeks. I think, again, advice varies based on your doctor's recommendations. They all have differing opinions. I'm sure, in the end, as long as you are compliant, whenever you start, a few weeks doesn't matter.

3wks post op on reg food

What are you eating on the new diet? I don't think your doctor would want to sabotage you, so that's probably not the issue at all. Doctors all do things differently. Are you getting protein first? Plenty of water? Could that time of the month be here or coming soon? It's frustrating I'm sure, but as long as you're following a good diet with protein first, lower carbs, and getting all your water in, it will work. It's my understanding that a revision patient doesn't lose as quickly too. Keep that in mind.

    3 week stall Vegas trip

I guess the difference between a VSG and RNY is that, at 7 weeks, I got just a little nauseous just thinking about trying to eat all of that! LOL At 7 weeks, I'm rarely even tolerating meats, let alone even thinking about trying sugars... I have a very unstable little persnickety pouch. Truth be told, I hope it stays this way for a long time. Get back on track, pronto! You don't want to waste precious time testing the waters, especially if you can accept so many varied foods this early out. Good for you for reaching for the Protein today!!

    Coke zero

Why go against what your doctor told you this early out? Not to sound rude, but there are rules in place for reasons. No, it may not have bothered you, but you knew going into this that things would be off limits... some of them for months, some forever. The taste of cake, or a chip or two, or a piece of garlic bread may not bother you either, but if you start 'breaking the rules' only a few days out of surgery, you are setting yourself up for failure down the road. The first year is the easy part... following the rules are to set you up for success after the honeymoon phase is over. It's not a game to see what your new pouch can handle.

    Coverup Procedure/Hiding the truth

I just tell them the truth. First off, these folks around here will talk about you regardless, so I figured that I'd atleast give them some truth instead of making things up Second, I want those around me to understand exactly what weight loss surgery is, why I chose to do it, and how it can be successful (because damnit I'm going to be successful). And if I help one other person that needs help, then so much better. However, I'm an open book... I have a hard time not just being me and to hell with what anyone else thinks... they'll most likely talk about me because they're jealous anyway I spout off statistics, facts, and information so that it's not so taboo to them. The fact of the matter is, I have an eating disorder, and this 'tool' helps me to deal with that easier. It's not for everyone, but it can save someone's life if they need it. Of course, I also realize not everyone is as open as I am, so I totally understand your desire to keep it to yourself. Just this past weekend, we had family staying with us, and my uncle - who is highly opinionated - had some choice things to say to me. I just smiled, quoted my facts, and tried my best to ignore him until my aunt could reel him in

When can I eat potatoes, pasta, etc.,?

In my experience, pre surgery, carbs are addicting and made me more hungry. I don't plan on making them a regular part of my diet ever. That being said, I'm having a really hard time with meats at 7 weeks post op, and I've allowed a few carbs to sneak in. I really need to find some good Proteins that don't make my pouch stuck and sore after I eat them There are great substitutes for potatoes... specifically cauliflower... I make a mean mashed cauliflower, and I've tasted some pretty remarkable cauliflower salad (like potato salad). Use this time to find great alternatives to the carb monster foods (and I'll do better at listening to my own advice as well!)

    Help me

If you are gagging on something as thin as a shake, I'm not sure you can go to yogurt or egg whites. Why are you gagging on the shakes? Do you know? It's really important to get your Protein in right now, and you won't possibly be able to do with with yogurt and egg whites alone. The shakes are concentrated in protein. It helps with not only hair loss and bad growing nails, but also with weight loss. Call your doctor and talk to your NUT for sure.

    Finally!

Oh wow! Congratulations!!! Can't wait to hear when your surgery date is! Hang in there! This nightmare is almost over!

    Gastric Bypass vs. Gastric Sleeve

Actually dumping is something that only happens to about 30% of those with RNY surgery. It's almost always caused by sugary foods, or really high carb bad for you foods. These are foods you need to avoid, regardless of the surgery you choose. I chose the RNY because the idea of having 1/2 of my stomach actually cut out and stapled seemed really harsh to me. While the RNY, while also being very severe CAN be reversed should some catastrophic event happen to me.It also has a longer history, and it's considered the 'gold standard'. That being said, any tool you choose will work. But the thing you have to remember is that any surgery you choose is nothing but a tool to help you achieve your goals. With either surgery, in about 2 years time, you will have the abililty to eat near normal portions, you have the ability to 'cheat' your tool, eat slider foods high in bad things, drink high calorie drinks, etc. I think some doctors suggest certain surgeries because that is what they are more comfortable with/better at. Do your research, and feel good, no matter which way you choose that you are making a lifetime decision to improve your health

    WOW 10 month check in

Congratulations!!! I saved a pair of 'old' pants... even though I'm only down 34.5 pounds right now... I want to have them around to remind me of where I've been - and where I don't want to go again! LOL Sounds like you are doing a fantastic job!!!

    So Excited!

Congratulations!!!! That's just a few days from now! Woo Hoo!
  22. I am 4 weeks post op. I can't eat more than 1/4C, and that's only if it's pureed. If it's a soft solid food, I do good to keep 1-2T down. I am doing no sugars (including fruit), and no carbs to speak of. I do a shake for breakfast, and then a Protein drink (I bought the non-flavored whey protein isolate and mix it with flavored water) later in the afternoon. I do a small lunch, but never more than 1/4C (hummus, soup, cottage cheese, black Beans, etc), and then for dinner I'll do a 2.6ounce pouch of tuna, or grilled fish... and then maybe another Protein Drink later. I follow the No drinking 30 before or 30 after to the T... the reason? Because you don't want to push that food out of your pouch early... drinking sooner than that can actually make you more hungry... this is the hardest thing for me too, because I used to like to wash my food down! 1 Cup seems like a lot to me, but I'm only going by what my plan says, and the fact that I apparently have a very picky pouch to boot!
  23. pammieanne

    GOAL!

    Great Job!!!!
  24. Don't buy too much prior to surgery, your taste buds will change... Whatever you choose, stick with Whey Protein Isolate... my doctor does not recommend Premier Protein for the first 6 months because it's not all whey protein isolate, but I love that stuff... You get what you pay for too... pay attention to the protein content per serving... some of the cheaper ones are just lighter in the protein and after surgery you need the more concentrated brands because you can't drink as much. I'm so over the 'milky' shakes... I've started adding plain protein whey isolate to flavored Water, or buying the Isopure drinks someone else mentioned... my favorite flavor so far was the blueberry
