    Constant Pain

I slept in the recliner in the living room for about a week. I couldn't get comfortable lying flat in bed. It was probably 3 weeks before I could sleep on my left side - which is my favorite position. No need for pain pills to sleep, simply take a sleeping pill.
  2. I don't post over here everyday, but I've been reading and posting for about 6 months now. You are an inspiration to me, and I've often taken your words to heart when I do read them. You're pictures tell a story, not just of how fabulous you look, but how much your soul has changed as well. I see a brightness in your eyes in the one year pictures that just wasn't there in the before photos. You are shining with happiness! So proud of you! I hope the rest of your life is filled with great things, because you've taken it upon yourself to make a change that will change your future forever!!!

    Stomach feels "backed up"

Of course, it's always best to give your doc office a call with any concerns. When is your next appointment? I am 3 months out tomorrow. I have never been able to eat as much as most everyone else can. My food almost always feels 'stuck' for hours. No drinking for 30 min before and 30 min after? Ha! I can't drink for at least an hour or two after I eat anything with dense Protein involved. I do have another appointment next week so I'll talk to my doctor then about me. How big of a bite are you taking? Does Water hurt? Do warm things feel weird too? Sometimes temperature plays a part in this as well. Can you do Protein drinks OK?

    I can't live like this!

Hydration and Protein are equally important Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App It's my understanding that for the first couple of weeks - only - that water is more important. Obviously as you progress, and keep yourself hydrated, that the protein becomes as important as the water. But the first few days to two weeks, she needs to stay hydrated any way she can, and if it's just water, then it's just water. Of course, she also needs to continue to try protein drinks until she finds one she can drink without gagging on it. Perhaps holding your nose while you drink them? Seriously, is it the taste that is grossing you out? I often wonder if more picky eaters have issues with things like this than people that will eat anything?

    After-surgery goals are

@@Djmohr We were in Dallas a couple of weekends ago. I've lost 58lbs, but still have another 58 to go (Oh wow, I just realized I'm half way!). I have gone into the Lucky Brand store a lot for my hubby, he loves their clothes, but never have even tried a thing on! So this trip I was with a girlfriend of mine, and she was trying things on... so I decided to try on an XL shirt. I have big boobs, which haven't gone down much at all... but that shirt fit me!!! I was so excited! I didn't buy it, because, even at clearance it was still over 40.00 for a tank type shirt, so I passed because I knew I wouldn't get to wear it that long. I used to love clothes shopping in my twenties... but after gaining so much weight, I moved to shoes and costume jewlery... a few weeks ago, I packed up a white trash bag FULL of shoes... and I still have over 50 pairs left. I need something new to concentrate on, shoes are not an issue anymore!

My Lane Bryant card is paid off... I refuse to use it now that I'm losing so fast I don't want to spend the money there! Never thought about getting a Victoria Secret card, but now I'm putting it on my list!

  10. Six weeks isn't that long out. I've seen many people say that they react to eggs differently (and each day may be a different story too). I've gotten food stuck several times... I don't have a stricture, I feel confident about that. I've just learned that I can't eat 2oz of dense Protein right now, maybe only 1oz if I'm lucky. I'm 11.5 weeks out. Obviously, if everything you eat gets stuck for several days, then talk to your doctor. I've also read that after you upset your pouch, it's not a bad idea to let it rest for a day before eating more hard solid foods. At 6 weeks, I was only then allowed to try meats/ dense Proteins. You stomach is still healing. I'm learning as I go, as we all do. One thing I've learned is that each pouch is it's own. They all react differently. Some of the things I can eat successfully right now are fish, shrimp, crab, chili, tuna mixed with mayo, smoked oysters in the can (I know, weird)... eggsalad (I can't stomach the idea of an omelette or scrambled eggs right now, but I've always had a slight aversion at timse with this).

    Don't want to eat

I'm at 11.5 weeks out. I have very little desire to eat as well. I also can't eat what the doctor recommends at this point - especially if it's a more dense Protein like most any kind of meat. I do best with things like fish, shrimp, crab, chili... But by the time I chew whatever it is I'm eating, I lose interest long before that 2oz of protein is gone... I am still drinking 2 protein shakes a day to keep my protein up until this changes... I can eat cashews like a champ though! (I limit them to 12 a day when I do have them around!

    ?

I think that as you start to lose you will become more interested in your scale and the number. For now, the doctor visits will give you a good barometer as to where you are. You just do You! There's no hard fast rule on the scale!

    Started semi-solid food

    Good for you!

    No veggies.....?

Protein makes hair beautiful! Hang in there, you're doing great! I'm 11.5 weeks out, and still barely eat any veggies because I still don't have the room for them... I do take things to help me go to the bathroom though, as do a lot of WLS patients.

    I can't live like this!

Just drink your Water... even this first week or two, the Protein isn't as important as the water. Which Protein drinks are you using? If you can't stand them right now, try another one. Premier Protein is a popular one (the ready to drink variety). Just keep sipping your water though so you don't need those IV bags. If you can keep that down, consider it a victory - for now. I am only 11.5 weeks out, and I am doing mostly great. I can't eat what others can eat though, and while this is hard for me, I'm finding ways to deal with it, as you need to. Find the Protein Drink you can handle, get your rest, and try to walk as much as you can... it really does help with recovery. You still have the anesthesia running through your body. This also takes time to go away. Hang in there! It'll all be OK in a few weeks!
  16. Wowza! You look like a different person! You are beautiful, and you look so happy too! Congratulations on your journey!

    Frustrated with eating!

I am 11 weeks today. I can only eat maybe 1/2 ounce of dense meats... and I have to cut it up to the size of a pea, and chew that TO DEATH. I don't have the room in my pouch that a lot of other people do, but I don't think I have a stricture... although I am going to bring it to my doctor's attention when I go in at the end of the month. Yes, it's frustrating for me. Yes, I wish I could eat more... But what I did this weekend made me realize it really is just the dense stuff. We were at a party. I nibbled on cashews for a while, and I broke down and hit the chip bowl (bad, bad, bad),,, BUT my point is that I ate a handful or two of chips, plus probably 25 cashews... and I wasn't full like I am on meats. I will continue on with my Protein shakes, twice a day, until my pouch starts to accept solid, dense protein better. Fish and seafood seems to work better, but I still can only eat VERY SMALL amounts of these. The difference is they don't sit as hard as the dense meat does. Talk with your doctor, of course, but you are still pretty newly out and your pouch is still healing. Try things like tuna, egg salad, cottage cheese... things that are softer and easier to pass.

Who do I tell about my surgery?

I'm one of those that has shouted it from the roof tops! I guess first off, I have always been an open book, and I can't stand to try and keep things in. Secondly, and more importantly TO ME, is that I think there's a stigma about this surgery, and the more people are educated, the more information they have, the less they will be to judge. I don't want some MO person to think that's I' e succeeded, where they've failed. I want them to understand the health benefits that come along with the surgery. I want them to be informed. That being said, it's MY story, and when a friend of mine starts telling people, then I get frustrated and ask them to let me decide to to tell and when to tell them hahaha!
  19. No drinking 30 minutes before, and Atleast 30 minutes after... I can't drink for more than an hour after I eat anything dense. Are you dumping, or are things getting stuck? I've also heard that eggs are an 'iffy' choice frest out of surgery... that some people do fine on them, and other's have issues with them. Maybe that's it?

    Losing my hair

If you get one, I'll get one too I haven't started the hair loss stage yet (I'm at 10 weeks out), but I have been using Nioxin, and went with the Stage 4 for my next bottle as well. Don't know if it'll help, but I will feel better trying. I have my hair longer than it's been in a long long time... all in anticipation of losing it and getting a shorter cut! Ha! And while I know all of this will be happening, it doesn't mean I won't be on here whining about it when it does! I'll start taking the Biotin when it's time for regrowth to try and help speed the regrowth up!

    Stomach feels numb

I've had a spot on my stomach, just to the right of the biggest scar that has been numb(ish) since my surgery. I'm only 9.5 weeks out at this point, and I do notice that the nerves are starting to come alive again in that area. But if this is a new phenomenon, I'd definitely call the doc. As far as the other feelings go, no, I have not experienced that. Are you going to bed shortly after you eat something? I'd mention it to the doc when you see him... no point in not. And maybe he can explain it and make you feel better.

    A Magic Bullet

12%... so in a 250 lb person... you're talking 30lbs... And you get to run to the bathroom, spend 15 minutes in there, emptying a tube filled with food you've chewed up. Um... no thanks.

    Protein drinks

Have you tried Premier Protein ready-made drinks? (Not their powdered protein supplement) I went through the same thing. It's hard to find a good pretein Meal Replacement - and there is a difference between just plain protein (whey protein isolate is what you should concentrate on because after WLS we absorb this one better). Try to get a meal replacement early on if you can for all of the other Vitamins in them. I also have bought the Isopure unflavored Protein powder (not a meal replacement) and I add it to flavored Water when I need more protein. I drink 2 Premier Protein Drinks a day plus the extra protein in my water if I need it.

    Unsupportive fiance

You need to do what you need for yourself. You are young looking in your picture, and 200 lbs isn't something to ignore. Your health will start to deteriorate, and you won't be able to do things the older you get. Now is the time to take control of your own life and do what you need to do. Tell your fiance to support you or back off. If he loves you, then he'd be there for you, even if he can't take a bunch of time off, he can be there for you mentally. (besides, tell him sex will be through the roof after you lose some weight hahaha) And for the record, the vast majority of WLS patients are fine by the time they are released from the hospital. Yes, it's nice to have someone there to help you, but statistically you will be healthy enough to take care of yourself for the most part. This is about YOU, not what your fiance is comfortable with.

    Sweet potatoes?

While they are acceptable for the pureed stage, keep in mind they have NO Protein. So as you move along in the food stages, you want to look for things with protein (I've read more than 10g per serving to get the most bang for your buck). I ate a lot of hummus during the pureed stage... and cottage cheese, and egg faces ricotta bake (you can google it, it's really yummy!). Heck, actually I ate hummus today at lunch (went out with a friend)... I think I am part chickpea at this point
