  1. Isn't it funny how we hide behind our kids when we're over weight? No need for you to do that anymore! You look fantastic!
  2. Well my insurance was RE-submitted AGAIN on Mar 29th, so I'm hoping to be in the last stretch! LOL I'm not in Atlanta anymore, but my kids were born there and we moved about 6 years ago... lived NE of the city for 15 years I have BCBS of TX now... I hope this time it goes smoothly for me I'm going to call the insurance company today to see what's up with that. Welcome out of lurkerdom

    Frustrated!

Oh No! That's awful!! I hope you're able to find someone quickly that'll take everything you've done and go with it. From what my insurance told me, the approval is based on the procedure only. Not the doctor that sends in all of the required paperwork, so you should be able to walk into another doctor's office, and at least be almost done with their requirements - I think most docs work off of what your insurance wants... Keep us updated
  4. Allow me to vent I finished all of the requirements for insurance on or around 3/3. On 3/4 my insurance company received the paperwork from my doctor's office. On 3/10 my insurance company mailed out a letter to me saying they did not receive the 'coding' for the surgery, and that information from my doctor's office. I had already called my doctor's office and spoke with the claims specialist there because I had called the insurance company prior to receiving the letter in the mail (Hey, I'm impatient and have a busy summer, I really thought I'd have this surgery in March after what the doctor said, after my first consultation with the doctor). The claims specialist was adamant that the correct coding was on page 3 of what she sent them (and after reading a few things here, I definitely believe her because, hey, it's what she does for a living, right?). So on Thursday, I received the letter dated 3/10, and I went ahead and called the insurance company again to check (thinking that surely by now this was all figured out, because I mean, if she sent it in on page 3, how could they not see it?!). The Customer Service person I got apparently looked though all of the pages sent in by my doctor's office and claimed that there were NO codes... OK. Fine. I called the claims girl back at my doctor's office and left a message... on Thursday. And Friday. And have called again today. I have BCBS of TX, and my doctor is Dr. Ronnie Keith out of Norman, OK. He is highly regarded, and came to me from a very good source - good friend is a bariatric nurse at Norman Hospital, so I know she has good authority on the best in our area. However, I really am beginning to think his office staff is overworked and unorganized! I'M TIRED OF WAITING! Please tell me that this too shall pass, and that any day now I will get the phone call telling me all is good, you are approved, and let's get started on that Pre Op Diet! Has anyone ever been denied after receiving an initial OK from the insurance company?
  5. I haven't had surgery yet, but I would imagine 100g of carbs is high... but that's just my observation from what you have up there... I couldn't imagine a connection to the cyst and your slow weight loss, but I'm not a doctor Also, mostly just curious, but in this post you say gastric bypass, but in your sidebar it says you had a lap-band. I believe that'll make a huge difference on weight loss possibilities as well. Which one did you have? Hang in there though, no matter what, and don't give up or cheat... not worth it. At least you are losing something

    Two fantastic Things

I miss crossing my legs! I know it's not the best for circulation, but I still want to be able to do it! Good for you, you are doing a great job!!! I hope I'm as successful as you when my time comes to finally have my surgery!
  7. So... the 'no drinking 30 minutes before' is so your stomach will be empty enough to handle the all -important Protein you will be feeding it... and 'no drinking during/ after 30 minutes of a meal' is so you don't wash down what you just put in there so you'll stay full longer and give your body a chance to adsorb all the nutrients, right? Well, what about pre-op? I mean, obviously drinking prior to a meal isn't as big of a deal since our stomachs are already at full size... but what about not drinking for 30 minutes afterwards? Do you think it helps with keeping us full longer? Do you think there is any benefit - pre surgery - to not drinking with your meal, or afterwards for 30 minutes (Other than to get used to it as you approach your surgery date)? I've been chewing, chewing, chewing... and I've all but eliminated drinking during my meal, in preparation... but I was wondering if there's a real benefit to it, say for someone just looking to lose weight in general... Obviously I need the insurance company to hurry up and approve me, because I think I'm going crazy over here OVER THINKING things! ha!

    Trouble Breathing

Probably not a lot of help, and you should call your doc office and see what they think too, especially if it continues... But, are you getting your Protein and Water in daily? You sound weak to me, and maybe something to do with blood sugar levels? I hope it improves, and hopefully someone with more experience will have a better idea. Hang in there

    And away we go!

Hang in there! You'll be on the other side in a matter of hours! Check in with us when you can! Hey, my teenage daughter went to France last year with her History club around this time... I was a nervous wreck sending my 15yo across the pond, but she had a blast!! Hope yours does as well!
  15. I don't have any advice, but I wanted to just say I'm sorry you're going through a hard time Maybe, are you restricted? Has your doctor had any good advice, has he listened to your concerns? Hopefully someone will come along with some good advice, in the meantime, try really hard to keep your spirits up! (((hugs)))
  16. Thanks ya'll... I totally get why we need to do it after surgery... I guess I was more contemplating if there were benefits for all people, whether they were about to have, or had already had, surgery... just your run of the mill person. If they were to incorporate this into their lives, would there be a health benefit of staying fuller longer... Again, just me being obsessed because my Doctor's office won't call me back to tell me if they're sending the required paperwork to my insurance company! Beyond frustrated with them right now

    So NERVOUS !

That is so awesome about your Hep C! I have a friend here in OKC who had Hep C, but none of the drugs worked to cure her. She ended up with a liver transplant last year, and this year started the latest treatment out, and 4 months later was cleared of all Hep C! Hang in there till Thursday, I bet your bariatric counselor will have a ton of news for you then

    First NSV! Pre-Op

It feels so good to see and feel changes! Just imagine how impressed you'll be in the months to come! Keep up the great work!

    So NERVOUS !

So much of what happens has to do with what your insurance requires. When you meet with the bariatric counselor you should be able to find out then what the insurance company will require before giving you the final approval. For me I had to do 3 NUT classes, EKG, PFG, PT class, Blood work, sleep study, and I THINK that's it. Some have to do 3-6 month approved nutrition classes, some have to lose weight, others have to maintain. I'm in the final phase... the waiting game for the insurance to give their final blessing... Good luck, and hang in there! Where are you? Who is your doctor? Sometimes that helps in figuring it all out too.

Woo Hoo! The time has passed and you are already at the hospital! Keep us updated when you can! Congratulations!!!

    Premiere Protein drinks

I am pre surgery. I drink it every morning, and have a friend several years out (RNY) that uses it as Breakfast. I also have a closer friend that had her RNY surgery on 12/31, and her doctor recommends it. My doctor, however, does not recommend it. Go figure. I haven't decided what I'm going to do about that though (LOL). I will buy some of the shakes he recommends (Bariatric Pal and Chike), and since I've read so many times that your tastes change, maybe I won't even like Premier Protein after surgery...

    Time off work

I've asked a similar question recently. Seems that it ranges a lot, and anywhere from 10 days to the full 6 weeks. I'm hoping for more along the lines of 10 days, with the option to be here part time at first if I feel tired or need to go home. Luckily for me, I have a bit of flexibility with my boss.
