Anyone had their surgery cancelled?
TinaF_1971 replied to nicky2221's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have heard of it happening, at the hospital I went to. The patient decided to go all out, eating, the week before his surgery. He went out to eat quite a bit. He gained weight and the surgeon cancelled it. I don't think that would be a common mistake, though. Sent from my SM-G860P using BariatricPal -
I never did, either. At around two months out, I was so moody! I figure some of it had been because I was losing a "friend," in a sense. It eventually went away, thankfully.

Lactose intolerant and sip able protein shakes
TinaF_1971 replied to frmfat2fit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't stomach Isopure, either, so I use a vanilla EAS shake mix and add different sugar free coffee syrups. strawberry is my favorite. I have used a cheap brand, from Walmart, that was a Cookies and Cream flavor. It was really good. I guess I am lucky that my lactose intolerance hasn't been as bad after my surgery. Before, I had it really bad and it was almost like dumping syndrome after eating something with lactose. Don't they have a soy Protein shake mix? I have seen a couple, at Walmart, but never tried them. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G860P using BariatricPal -
I have a complete aversion to exercise--rant
TinaF_1971 replied to LEILE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Certain activities, I do enjoy. When we had our pool, I was in it twice, in two weeks, and lost 12 pounds. I also like riding a recumbent bicycle, as I loved bike riding but have bad knees. I did end up joining a gym, three years post-op, but I really need to push myself to go. Before that, I didn't do many other activities. Right now, I'm having a difficult time losing weight, and have even regained between my two year and three year surgiversary. I need to build up leg muscles, though, because I have difficulty walking, without aid. I found the gym has a sit down elliptical, which I like, too. I breezed through weight loss my first two years, with no working out, but I started at a higher weight than most. Sent from my SM-G860P using BariatricPal -
What happens if you don't return to your doctor visits after post-op?
TinaF_1971 replied to msjg46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Our dietician was just for the bariatric program, but I only had to see her once before surgery and once, after. Thank goodness, because she and I didn't see eye to eye. They had already given us a big book, what some termed the bariatric bible, on each phase of their program, diet included. It had each phase, along with recommended foods for each meal. We also received a recipe book. I like my bariatric nurse practitioner, which is the only person I have been able to see. I have to get a ride, from my husband, so I go by his schedule and it never coincided with my surgeon's. I liked my surgeon, too, though. I had to go at certain intervals, since it was required by Medicare. Sent from my SM-G860P using BariatricPal -
What's your "weight loss pet peeve?"
TinaF_1971 replied to Elode's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My pet peeve...hard to decide on just one. I have a friend who had the RNY. She started around 500# and got down to 200#. She posts pics of what she eats, on Facebook. Very high in fat, calories, and sugar, like Mexican and Desserts. She also likes to comment on my posts, about my success or distress over gain, saying things like my husband and I can fit into my old pants, etc. I even saw her in person, once, and she said she didn't recognize me because I looked so old. I don't think I do, but I started using facial moisturizers and dying my hair, religiously. My husband likes to try and get me to eat junk, too. He'll be like, you deserve it, you've lost so much. I secretly think he wants me to gain more weight back, as he likes big women. *sigh* -

I started eating Taco Bell, about four months out. The dietitian, at the time, didn't really approve. She actually yelled and told me to eat pre-packed foods, instead. Me, I don't like those meals and they usually have quite a few carbs, which I'm sensitive to. Anyway, I would eat my two Taco Supremes, and made them into a salad when I got home. I didn't eat the shells, though. I also had half of a small chili, from Wendy's, and ate pizza toppings when my husband ordered it. I didn't do it, often, though. I think some have to understand that some of us do live, and eat, with other family members. You can't expect them to eat "perfect" all of the time. When your SO hasn't had the surgery, it's hard to watch them eating things you can't have. The first two weeks, after my surgery, I did hide in the bedroom to avoid watching my husband eat. I don't necessarily think the VSG takes away cravings but it does take away your hunger. I don't recall the term for the hormones but that is the one that decreases, after they remove part of your stomach. I'm three years out, and am struggling though. The magical effect of rapid weight loss stopped at two years, for me. I have regained some weight. The hunger feeling has returned, some, and I am able to eat more. I'm limiting my fast food quite a bit now. They are looking to make sure my stomach didn't stretch. Since I had the tests done, here where I live, it's taking a while for the results. The surgeon was also out on vacation when I got the results. The results I received from my PCP, were that I still had really bad reflux, and the radiology doctor didn't see any results of having had weight loss surgery. Don't know if that's because they aren't familiar with the VSG (sometimes I have to explain it to the doctors) or my stomach stretched.

Smoking After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
TinaF_1971 replied to mommamea's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I use electronic cigarettes, too. Stopped prior to surgery but picked it back up, after a few months. I had reconstructive surgery and a knee replacement, and it didn't affect my healing process for either surgery. I only use 6 mg of nicotine. I started it to quit smoking but like the flavors, so don't plan on quitting. Good luck! My husband is still struggling to quit his smoking addiction. I also agree that combating two addictions, at once, is very hard.
