enjoylife: I completey understand what you are going through. It is very hard to go at this alone or with very little help. I am glad that you found my thread because now I can return the favor to you. I will mark you on my calendar for the 24th, and I will keep you in my prayers. On the day of my surgery it helped me to know I had support from those that responded to this thread. I was so nervous in the pre-op room on Friday that I was actually in tears. I am very emotional anyway but I kept thinking:" what am I doing to myself." Well I was reassured by people on this forum that things would be ok, and they were right. The band is very safe and the risks are minimal. You will do fine. I have a 6 year old and he was very helpful to me these past 2 days after surgery. Your 5 year old will be the same,I'm sure, and you will recover very quickly like I am. I am feeling better by the hour...it's great! My prayers are with you....take care.

Banded Friday! Need words of wisdom...
Hazel-eyes posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone, I am home and banded....my surgery was on Friday! I feel pretty good and am trying to stay positive about transitioning into this new lifestyle. It's hard to picuture the end result when I just came home from the hospital and I'm drinking broth and crystal light! I hope I made the right decision. Now I know what people were talking about with "saying goodbye to your best friend- food." I know that the best is yet to come, but....any words of wisdom are appreciated! Thanks! -
Hi Wisshi, I can say that I'm not really in too much pain. Still taking my pain meds since I have a whole bottle full, might as well. I am starting to feel a litlle more human too! I felt like my whole world was upside down yesterday but getting better today. I hope your pain gets better! Do you start full liquids tomorrow like me? LOL...never thought I would be looking forward to Slimfast & yogurt so much! Best wishes...

Oh No! Surgery Friday and I have a cold!
Hazel-eyes replied to Hazel-eyes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I made it! I am officially banded. I did still have a stuffy nose and post-nasal drip during surgery and they said they gave me something to dry me up. I think the Zicam really worked to help lessen my cold....tastes horrible but works. Thanks for the replies to help me get better before surgery! -
Thank you all for all of your support. It was defintely hard with only my husband supporting me for this so I am very grateful that I have all of you saying a little prayer for me on Friday! I am starting to feel better and I am hoping I transition well into my new lifestyle. Yesterday when my husband and kids were having dinner I was wondering what I did to myself but I am staying positive and remembering that this will all be worth it. Thank you!

I took it a few years ago after my PCP prescribed it to help me loose weight. I had energy and was able to exercise a lot....then I realized that it had caused insomnia and high blood pressure....so I stopped taking it. My insomnia lead to depression that I am still stuggling with. I lost about 20 pounds but gained it all back and more due to the depression. I would be careful and let your body decide for you, if it doesn't feel right let your doctor know. I realize now that there will never be a pill that will acheive long term weight loss.

Help please! Don't want my surgery cancelled!
Hazel-eyes replied to chica's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chica, I found your thread here like you said. My nose is stuffy but no sore throat and I will be sure to mention this to the doctors. I have some Afrin...so maybe I'll use some today and then let them give me some tomorrow. Thanks a lot! -
Oh No! Surgery Friday and I have a cold!
Hazel-eyes replied to Hazel-eyes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all of the great suggestions! I am feeling a good deal better today and I think that I will be ok for tomorrow. I took some airborne yesterday and vitamin c...that's all I had in the house (i know airborne is now said to be a scam). I drank tons of water and green tea. Today I went out and bought the Zicam as Bandme08 suggested. I think if I get some rest today I will be fine. I love this forum....always someone here to help out! Thanks a lot and I'll see you in bandland tomorrow! -

Post-op how long until you could go out....
Hazel-eyes posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Trying to get a general idea of how many days I will be in the house recovering. So I am wonderng how long it took you until you ventured out of the house post-op. Of course my surgery is the first priority but I am a busy gal and I hope to get back into a normal routine asap. I'm hoping my age is on my side on this one! -
Will I have a lot of gas forever?
Hazel-eyes posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been reading a lot about gas after the lap-band. I am not a typically gassy person right now and I am wondering how bad the gas will be? Do you just have gas right after surgery or will I have a lot of gas all of time after being banded? Have you had gas issues out in public after banding? Just curious....:blushing: -

Post-op how long until you could go out....
Hazel-eyes replied to Hazel-eyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Texgirl, So that will be me this week. Sounds like I will be in full recovery mode on Sat. & Sun. but maybe able to get out a little on Monday...I hope! Thanks for the replies so far! -
Dear needtoloose, We are in the same boat. I am 27 and my surgery is on Friday the 14th. I am worried that I will not be able to have some of the foods I love, but then again all of the foods I love are foods that are bad for me and will only hurt me in the long run. Honestly, I am also worried that at my age I won't be able to have a few drinks with my friends anymore. But then I think about that and the reason why I have been avoiding going out with my friends lately is my weight. Just think how good you will feel this summer when you are able to buy some nice new clothes and feel good about yourself. If is wasn't for the band you wouldn't have that opportunity. Good luck tomorrow & just think about how you will look and feel this time next year!

I Miss Being 'Normal'...Am I alone in this?
Hazel-eyes replied to leahbNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure about anyone else, but I am a little worried about my surgery now. I have no idea what my life will be like in one year but I would be devasted if I am regretful. Hopefully you will find that you need less resrtiction and your outlook will change. -
Has anyone been denied BMI 40 with no co-morbities?
Hazel-eyes replied to Rascal76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have BCBS of Illinois. My BMI was 39 at the time of approval and no co-morbidity. I do have asthma, I'm not sure if that is taken into consideration. I was worried that I would not get approved but I did! Good luck! -
Pre-banding Feed Frenzy....
Hazel-eyes replied to HarleyGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am doing the same thing...it is definietly the last supper syndrome....it's terrible! I have gained at least 10 pounds in about 2 months . My surgery is in 5 days on Friday the 14th. I have been eating cheesecake, bagels, we went out to a big dinner the other night, a lot of snadwiches...it has been ridiculous. My surgeon does not require a pre-op diet, but I almost wish he did. I am trying to calm down now for the next 5 days...I am looking forward to loosing but can't beleive that I have let myself eat this way in the last several months. -
