  1. April will be upon us in just a few hours and I know there are several people who are having their surgery tomorrow. Good luck with the first day of the rest of your lives, wishing you health and happiness.
  2. I'm scheduled for May 18... just need to meet with other surgeons, pre-op class, my pre-op exam, labs... so I have to jump thru 3 more hoops until "my new journey" 43 yr old female with a BMI 37.8, 236lbs, 66 inches tall, heart disease with open heart surgery @40, sleep apnea, HTN, gout... I need this sleeve to save my life... good luck and Godspeed with your journey... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530AZ using the BariatricPal App You've been through so much already, but this procedure should put you on the road to improved health and fitness. I'll be thinking of you on the 18th of May.
  3. I don't know whether I count lol, I'm a fairly new Aussie getting sleeved a few days before you on the 16th May.
  4. I hope this won't seem like a silly question but I would like to ask how veteran sleevers were approximately 10 weeks into their weight loss journey. I was due to meet up with my sister in Bali at the end of July but am now scheduled for surgery on May 16. Do I go or do I stay at home, that's the decision. Lizzie is travelling from the UK and me from Australia, she's booked already and will meet up with her daughter there so it's not essential I be there as well (though it would be good). She's coming on to Australia for a further 2 weeks anyway. Can I expect to be eating more or less normally by then, albeit tiny portions? I can cope with that thought, what I couldn't cope with is still being on some sort of liquid diet still. I realise that everyone is different but it would be good to see how most of you were doing at that point in your journey. A big challenge would be avoiding Bali belly of course.
  5. Twyford will be a bit of a culture shock after London. We moved here from Bedford 6 years ago, just down the M1 from Leicestershire. Bali is 3.5 hours away for us so not too bad. I've no history of blood clots thankfully but will probably take some aspirin. If I can do half as well as you in 5.5 months I will be so chuffed. I will take a look at your blog, I need all the help and encouragement I can get.
  6. Thank you for your feedback. Some days I feel like you would be very welcome to the heat lol. I miss London but not the cold and damp. I envy you the coming spring, my favourite time of the UK year.
  7. It is indeed. Providing you take simple precautions like only drinking bottled Water all should be okay.
  8. I started my journey 14 months ago convinced that I wanted the band. In the meantime I had to wait 12 months for my Health Cover to kick in and used that time to research, research, research. I am now scheduled for the sleeve on May 16. What put me off ultimately was the regular appointments to ensure the band was just so. I'd heard of so many people having problems down the line that it became a no-brainer for me.
  9. My surgery is scheduled for 16th May. I could have opted for 1st April but I needed additional time to get together the gap fees. I don't know how it works in the US but here in Australia there's a gap between what the Health Cover pays and the total fees. I'm very nervous about it all on account of my age, I am 67. I'm 5' 4" and weigh 110 kgs, about 240 lbs. My surgeon wants me to get to 65 to 70 kgs which just seems to be a joke at the moment. I can't remember the last time I was 70 kgs. I have type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, my greatest hope is that my diabetes goes into remission.
  10. I'm off to see the surgeon tomorrow, this will be my second visit. I last saw him in late 2014 but was unable to go ahead at that time as I needed to upgrade my health cover and there was a 12 month delay. It was my gp who suggested I look at surgery as I have type 2 diabetes and hypertension, both controlled with medication at the moment. My bmi is 41. 12 months ago I was convinced that the band was the way to go, but down the line I'm edging towards the sleeve. The thing is, I'm 67 and I'm very nervous about it all, verging on the frightened. I want to be around a little longer to see my grandies grow up and get fitter for this next stage of my life. I feel this is my last chance. It would be so lovely if I could hear from others who've been in my situation. I've been on an Australian site but it was a waste of time really.
  11. You will be my inspiration. It's so wonderful that you feel so much better. I hope to gain energy and a new lease of life when I no longer have to carry around so much excess baggage.
  12. I'm confused-my usual state of mind... Are you having the bypass, or a sleeve? I applaud you for your decision to go for either one. I am 63 and have absolutely not one regret about having been sleeve. It was one of the few good decisions I've made. Welcome! Oh dear, I think I'm confused too, must have been the euphoria of a decision made. I am having a sleeve! That will teach me to read what I write before reaching for the post button! I hope to be like you Valentina and have no regrets.
  13. Thank you lovelies for your upbeat replies. So, I've seen the surgeon again today and he sort of put a spanner in the works by introducing the gastric bypass as an option whereas I had only been considering band or sleeve. He said that for diabetics it was a good way to go. I had neglected to do much research into the bypass. However, I did say that I had read that there is every chance of insufficient nutrient intake and he said that I would need to have Vitamin and mineral injections. Well, sorry, but thanks but no thanks. So the bypass it is and I am booked in for the 16th of May. I could have had the op on the 1st April but would have had difficulty raising the money in time. Two weeks before the op I have an appointment with the dietician. Onwards and upwards.
