3 months and waiting for my 1st Fill

I think the primary reason for the 90 days is becuase of insurance reasons.
  2. Hi All - I am just wondering if anyone has seen your scars and asked what they were from. It is swimming season here and I have been shirtless around the pool a few times (I am a man) and had someone ask me what the scar was from. I keep my surgery quiet - so hardly anyone knows. It caught me off gaurd and wasn't sure what to say. I am very careful about the way I position myself and who is around when I am shirtless. Any suggestions for not telling the truth? I said I had a cyst removed - Thanks
  3. Were you able to eat a lot prior to your fills?

I am so frustrated at this point. I always fall off the wagon!

I have Horizon BCBS of New Jersey - I was approved in a few days without any problem.
  6. See - this is what scares me. I am at the 3 month mark and I have not had my first fill yet. A good example is tonight - I know I ate too much all day and then at dinner I ate too much again. Isn't this why I got the band in the first place. It is supposed to be a tool to assist me with changing my habits, but it is so hard. I keep asking myself "what the heck is wrong with me that I have no will power and can't do this". I need to further reduce my portions - I have gotten better, but I must improve.

Has anyone seen your scars & asked?

I should have probabaly said the person who asked me is a close friend - Thanks
  8. is this gas pain? I feel like my entire body got hit by a truck. I woke up with it so what else could it be. Suggestions, comments - ways to help. Please.
  9. Did anyone ever take diet pills with the band? I am not due for my first fill for another 6 weeks. It has already been 6 weeks and I am just getting so hungry. I have been stuck at the same weight for like 2-3 weeks now...I have been flucuating like 2 pounds here and there. I have my old meridia perscritption and I was wondeirng if I should start taking them to kill my hunger later in the day. I am sure some people might find this question ridiculous - but I want to keep losing and I feel like since I have no restriction it is going to be really hard. I know it is supposed to be hard, but I need this to work.

    Having some trouble

Hi All - I am going on 7 weeks since my surgery. Things have been going well. I am down 37 pounds but have been stuck at that for a while now. I think I know why and it is becasue I have been eating more. I am hungry. I am not due for my first fill until July 29th so I have to wait a while. I am sure many people go though these slumps but I was wondering how all you sucessfuuly bandsters dealt with it. I am look for some suggestions, tips and techniques. I have been walking every night for at least an hour and I have been super active. I will take all the suggestions I can. Thanks

    Had a tough Day

Hi All - I am 6 weeks out and today I had a bad day. I was kind of hungry most of the day. It was just one of those days I guess. I pretty much stuck to my normal plan which is filled with Protein. I was even active - I try go out for lunch and walking and if I can't I do it at night. Tonight I had baseball with my 3 sons and I coach one of them so dinner was early. I had fish and vegatables. I was full after dinner, but after the game the boys wanted a quick snack and since my wife was working I took them through a drive through. I have to admit I ate something that I should have and now I am beating myself up. Does everyone have these days and if so do they happen less and less? Please let me know.

    Support Group for Abkin/Bertha patients

Alexandra - I am a patient of Dr. Bertha - I learned about the support groups from the office. Why do you think you band slipped?? Just curious? Did you insurance cover being re-banded?
  13. Please don't feel badly. It took me a good week to 10 days to feel better. It just takes a little time. Think positive thoughts as this is going to be one of the most positive things you have done in your life. Good Luck!!
  14. I was banded on April 29th in New Jersey.

    Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Hi All - I was banded on April 29th. I cannot have my first fill until July 29th - 90 days after my surgery. At this point I am on mushies for another few days and then it is on to real food. I have experimented here and there with "other" things, I made sure I chewed them very thoroughly and ate slowly. I have to admit I miss some of my salty snacks. I do feel full sometimes which is good, so I not sure if I am one of those that has a restriction without any fill or not. Did anyone else feel that way? I was thinking that maybe my stomach just shrink over the past weeks with the limited amounts of food that I have been having.
  16. Hi All - I am 3 weeks out and I am ate the mushy stage. I have been trying to stick to the mushies, but I have to admit that I have been testing the waters a little. Today I had a couple of bites of a hotdog and yesterday I ate on of my son's chicken nuggets. I know I am not supposed to be doing this, but it is soooo hard. Then I feel guilty that I ate those things. I have to make this work - I need to lose this weight. My doctor didn't require a post-op liquid diet so it was like once I had the surgery I went cold turkey and gave up all the foods I love so much... I am losing weight and adjusting but I am wondering if anyone esle out there has had these issues. I would love to here from you.
  17. My first fill will not be until late July. My doctor fills you under the fluroscope so the insurance comapny makes you wait 90 days. Bummer! Did anyone notice how much luquids they can drink? i used to the the type of guy that would drink a full glass (10oz) at a time. I am trying really hard to take sips, but it is all training yourself. I still can drink quite a bit of Fluid without feeling like I am going to burst.
  18. Hi All - I was wondering what everyone is doing with their incisions. Are you applying any kind of cream or ointment to help with the scaring?? At this point I am 2 weeks out and I want to use something to help them heal better, they are looking good, but I figured i should do something. What have you all done? I am looking for suggestions. THANKS

    Lunch Time

I have been telling people on am on a soup kick lately and I love it..... No one has really said anything. Today I was asked to go out to lunch and I had the soup and half sandwich option - ate the soup and picked the sandwich apart. I said I was dieting and was not eating any bread.
  20. Hello - I just had me 2 week post-op check up today and I am down 25 pounds. It sounds like a lot, but I started off in the 310 pound range. Some people say my face looks thinner - I blamed it on haveing strep throat (which I did get 4 days after surgery). Good Luck...
  21. I used Advanced Laproscopic Surgeons in Florham Park. They were wonderful and I am very happy with them at this point.
  22. Hi All - I decided not to tell my boys, 4, 6 & 8. First, I don't want them telling anyone, which as well as know children have a very innocent way of letting things slip out. Secondly - I didn't want them thinking this was the easy way out. I did tell them I had to go to the doctor and he had to check my belly because I always get heartburn. I had to tell them something - I am the very active Dad and the boys are always jumping all over me. I let them see the incisions and they were very concerned I was OK. There biggest thing is wanting to know when we can wrestle again.....
  23. Welcome - I am almost 2 weeks out and belive me I know how you are feeling. It is tough - but in the end it will all be worth it. I am heading to the doctor on Wednesday for my 2 week post-op check and then on to mushy foods. I had a wedding yesterday - talk about tough - I know exacty how you felt sitting there watching them eat those steaks!!! Good Luck

    Hunger and Fill Question

I feel the same way - was banded on the 29th and I am starting to feel hungry.
  25. Hi All - I had my surgery 11 days ago. In the beginning I was surprised by the pain and it was hard to get in all 64 ounces of the luiquids. I was doing all right and on day 5 I came down with a fever. It turns out I had a serious case of strep throat which was most unpleasant. It was really rough b/c I didn't feel great from the surgery and having that on top of it made me misearable. Now that, that is under control I am doing much better. I think the swelling must have gone down in my stomach because I now feel hungry. I see the doctor on Tuesday and I will move to the mushy stage, but today I did a bad thing and I couldn't help it. I took a bite of my son's grill cheese sandwich. I chewed it to almost nothing and it seemed to go down so easy. I am not sure what I expected, but I think I thought I would feel full from one bite. So I took another and then walked away. I had a creamy Soup for dinner and the 2 bites on top of it. I feel full now, but I am worried I am going to be able to eat anything I want without any restriction. I know I have to save away from the bad stuff and go healthy (low calorie and low fat), but it is so hard when there are temptations around us all the time. How bad was I taking those 2 bites? Please give me your opinion. I need some support right now. Thanks
