hair loss - when did you notice regrowth?
crazyplantlady replied to crazyplantlady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hair loss started pretty much exactly three months after my surgery. Nurse said will last until 6 months post-op Hopefully not too much longer. -

3 weeks out, what are you eating?
crazyplantlady replied to tiffanymarie6997's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorite thing was Beans, cheese, and salsa, microwaved. Amy's refried black beans is so good! yogurt is good too, lots of Protein. avocado smoothies are good too - avocado, milk if you're allowed, and a little brown sugar, in a blender. can use some other type of milk that is allowed if dairy is not. good luck! -
we fluctuate a couple pounds every day naturally. a gain of 1 pound is likely normal, and not something to worry about. Try focusing on getting all your Water in, then all your Protein in, and nothing else. at 7 weeks I was still struggling with that. Maybe weigh yourself less too? every 2 weeks or so? Stalls will happen, and you'll feel discouraged but it's unlikely you stretched out your sleeve so early on.

biotin supplements and acne?
crazyplantlady posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I was sleeved a few months ago, and had been taking 5000 mcg Biotin daily, as well as other Multivitamins as directed by my doctor at time of sleevage. Recently I feel like my hair has started falling out more than normal, which I guess I just have to make my peace with. To help for faster regrowth, I have doubled my intake of biotin to 10000 mcg, but my face, which had been soooooo clear has started to break out I have read lots of articles, and half of them seem to say there is a correlation with large amounts of biotin and acne, and the other half say that there is no correlation. The articles that say that excessive biotin does cause acne say that drinking large amounts of Water will get rid of the acne,,. but I have been drinking large amounts of water... every day. Has anyone else experienced this effect from biotin? I'm thinking of just going back to 5000 mcg since I had no problems, but I don't know if it is the biotin causing my skin to break out, or if there is a way I can take the biotin and help my hair grow back too. Any comments on experience or advice will be helpful! -

Can you tell me more about your experience? How much Phyto did you take? -
I understand that fat loss results in a lot of hormones in your blood, and logically I understand that my emotional state is likely linked to this happening inside me However, with the pressures of work, always feeling nauseated after eating, and the feeling of isolation I have because of this surgery, I am constantly trying to keep from not crying. I am not responding to stress the way I used to. Therapy isn't really helping I don't know what to do

chia seeds? are they safe for sleeves?
crazyplantlady posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! Recently I have seen a lot of people saying chia seeds are a good way to get some Protein and a ton of Fiber in. I'm curious to try them, but I hesitate because chia seeds absorb Water, and become a gelatinous substance That intrigues me, but makes me nervous because I don't know if that would be bad for a bariatric patient. the nutrition info is " One ounce (about 2 tablespoons) contains 139 calories, 4 grams of protein, 9 grams fat, 12 grams carbohydrates and 11 grams of fiber, plus Vitamins and minerals." Is that too many carbs/calories? I feel like it might be fine if you presoak them? rather then eat them dry? Does anyone know? -
How do you get your fiber in?
crazyplantlady posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I was given no requirements or minimums for Fiber to meet, just liquids and Protein. However, we do need fiber to help keep things moving, and while I'm probably never going to meet the recommended amount of daily fiber for a person with a normal sized stomach, I do want to try to make a conscious effort to have some fiber every day. Things that are rich in fiber are generally hard to eat right? I'm not sure... Either they're hard to get down or we should be avoiding those foods... How much fiber do you guys normally get in every day? How do you get it in? Thanks! -
I think I've posted about this topic a couple of times hahaha I get premier Protein shakes and mix them into my coffee I've also started mixing unflavored protein into my coffee along with half a shake 5.5 oz Premier Protein + 1 tbsp GENEPRO protein = 45g protein! I mix the two Proteins with some milk or creamer and and then add my coffee while stirring so the hot coffee doesn't clump up the protein there will be people here that will tell you that genepro protein isn't real protein, but I talked to my doctor and they said that it's fine. I'm a scientist myself, and I went on their website, and read some literature, and their protein extraction process makes sense to me. The genepro dissolves very easily, so I like it! I also try to eat around 20-30g more protein than my minimum so that even if I misjudge the amount of protein in something I eat or drink, I'll still be getting what I need. another option is unjury protein which people seem to like.

So now that I've been graduated from the mostly liquids/soft foods diets, my bowel movements have been... less than satisfactory? In that when I'm done, it doesn't feel like I'm done. Some days it takes a couple of sittings, if you know what I mean. I went through one period of constipation, and I'm pretty sure I may have hurt myself relieving that. I do get my 64 oz of liquids in daily, and 70-80 g of Protein. I was wondering what kinds of dietary Fiber I could start taking? how much fiber, what brand, etc. Ideally I don't want to increase my liquid minimum, or dehydrate myself because of the supplements. What are some side effects from taking fiber?

Unflavored Isopure protein powder
crazyplantlady replied to AmyMarie79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have! I mixed it with my coffee this morning. It's just like dry milk, dissolves pretty well as long as temperature isn't too hot. It added a dry milk taste to my coffee that I hope I'll get used to. -
"unflavored" protein to mix with coffee?
crazyplantlady posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I posted a post about coffee a couple of weeks ago, and I'm happy to say that I am happily drinking my coffee every morning. I mix in about half a premier Protein shake with my coffee, and drink the remaining shake, and then drink my coffee, and also get in almost half my liquid minimum for the day! I do struggle to finish my coffee however, because the chocolate Premier Protein taste is strong at the bottom of my mug and it's kinda bitter and gross. Adding creamer helps, but then it's harder for me to drink so much liquid in my morning sprint out the door, and if I were to try to drink my coffee on the way, it would never happen. Trust me. I am interested in either replacing the premier Protein Shake or using less of it in my coffee and supplementing it with some sort of Protein powder, such that I get at least 30 (more would be great!) grams of protein every morning, as I am interested in upping my protein intake, being almost 9 weeks out of surgery, and my weight loss is starting to stall, so after reading countless posts on this site, I have determined the best thing to do is focus on increasing my protein intake and managing my liquid intake. So does anyone have any suggestions on protein powders that I can use with coffee and premier protein? One of my 'requirements' is that the coffee should taste good. -

A probiotic is a good idea! I saw that the dosage suggestion was three pils before or after every meal. That's a lot! What did you do? -
"unflavored" protein to mix with coffee?
crazyplantlady replied to crazyplantlady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks guys! I looked at both and decided to get GENEPRO. Hopefully the money didn't go to waste! -
Hello!! I am almost 6 weeks out and I'm really missing my coffee habit... I manage fine without it and my premier Protein chocolate shake gives me energy for the day, but I just miss the taste and comfort of coffee. I drink 1 shake every morning, which gets me 11 oz and 30g of protein, which is great to start the day, but doesn't leave room for much else in my daily morning rush out the door. Usually the thing that slows me down most in the morning is making sure I finish my shake. I've read that most people suggest not counting coffee towards your daily liquid requirements, as coffee is dehydrating. I was wondering if anyone has tried mixing their coffee with the premier Protein shakes? The vanilla flavor? I got a box of the strawberry flavor to drink on it's own and it was so cloyingly sweet it left me feeling sick every morning, and I ended up throwing them away. I'm afraid the vanilla flavor will be the same way... but might be good mixed with coffee. I know that the only way to find out for sure is to try it but I'm on a budget and I can't afford to buy an 18 pack of shakes to find out I can't stand it, especially after throwing half a box away already. I wanted to know if the vanilla Premier Protein shakes taste good with coffee, or if they clump up when mixed with the hot coffee, or if anyone has found a way to drink coffee and still get their protein in. Thanks!

drinking most of my water at the end of the day?
crazyplantlady posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I am now 6.5 weeks post-op, and I've been pretty diligent about drinking my 64 ounces. However, lately there has been a trend, in that, during the day, I can only get about 8-12 ounces in, and then I have to drink the rest between 6pm to when I go to bed. (Every morning I drink a 11 ounce Protein shake which counts towards the) I work in a laboratory, and I am at my feet doing experiments most of the day, and I can't have a bottle of Water to sip from during my experiments, it's not allowed. The only time I am at my desk is when I'm eating lunch, and I can't drink during that time, because I need to fill my stomach with lunch. Also, it's generally very hard for me to sip the water during the day. It feels like it fills up my stomach really fast. At the end of the day, it's not as bad. So what ends up happening, is that I get home, eat my dinner, and then sip on water all night until I get all 64 ounces in. By the end of the night, I'm basically peeing straight water. Is this okay? Am I still getting the benefits of water if I'm drinking it all at night? Is it going through my system as it should or is it just being flushed out? I guess I just want to know if what I'm doing is okay, or if I need to try to change it. p.s. I have tried crystal light etc etc during the day and it still feels hard to drink thanks!
