So now that I'm maintaining a healthy size, I have an issue.
finallyfree! replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
Thanks Lipstick Lady, I have had a great laugh reading these posts, you shopaholics! I am not very interested in fashion, mostly because i could never find anything to fit me. I have my basic wedding, funerals and births outfits but am looking forward to a jeans and t shirts ki d of lifestyle. My problem is that I am as tall as a giraffe and so my skinny is your fat in weight. I no longer fit the plus sizes but also dont quite make the normal sizes. I managed one pair of skinny jeans from Levis of all brands. Maybe a nudist colony? -

Absolutely. Feeling of hunger goes away when i eat, no reflux and not taking the meds. Got off the drugs asap out of hospital. Detoxing from them was the worst. Re sleeve stretching, apparently it relaxes so increases marginally in size but it cannot be stretched, HOWEVER if you put the wrong food in it, you will gain weight. Yesterday i found i could eat soft chees triangles so i ate 4 during the day and put on 500grams. So lesson is have 1 or 2 triangles and no more. I was eating cheese because at the moment my protein is medium as i am a vegetarian and have a post op aversion to protein shakes, powder, anything artificual. ATM i am eating hummus with some avocado blended in. And thinking of the glass of wine I am not having, lol. -

Hey Aussiegirl, did you say you are 2 DAYS post op and eating pureed food? My Dr had me on liquid only for 2 weeks, pureed for two weeks (which is where I am now) then I have mashed for 2 weeks prior to soft solids. All this so the stomach has time to heal. I also have had a fairly smooth run. Good luck to you but confirm with your medical team that you can have pureed 2 days out please? -
Oh sh*t! I think I just noticed an NSV! Did I?

Hey KF, lap it up! Bet you are really watching the midday rugby. I am with Heather, cant wait to cross the legs and have my ankles touch. Congrats to you. I think NSVs are better than scales. -

One day at a time Aussiegirl. I am glad you are having no complications. Just be kind to yourself and your new sleeve and dont rush things. I am 3 weeks post op and not even trying to lose weight but concentrating on getting well. I feel a bit hungry but it is mostly head hunger. The scales are dropping slowly, 13kg since start of opti but i would rather lose slowly as i am hoping less chance of gallbladder problems and hair loss, thats my theory anyway. It will be a little harder when you get home but just follow your Drs rules and you will be fine. We will all be in the surf by Christmas! -

Hey cockroaches, (another footy term, not being rude), had the sleeve 3 weeks ago in Brisbane and doing fine. I was outside theatre saying to myself, i can just get off the bed and walk out and they wont stop me. Might arrest me for open backed gown but i can go if i like. Well, it wasnt too bad after all. First week is a challenge as it would be after any surgery. I ate everything they told me to and got sick and have an aversion to protein powder now, but it all works out. I found alternatives, melted and blended parmesan cheese i soup. We have wonderful surgeons in Oz, so just do your research, abide by the rules and good luck in Origin. -
Can I eat watermelon?
finallyfree! replied to jmdow1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told no until soft solid phase which is 6 weeks. However in second week was desperate and chewed watermelon and spat the pulp out. I had found everything I prebought i was turned off so was getting a bit frantic but dont risk swallowing as it could damage your pouch. Ask your dietician. -
Hey Monie and Breezy and other aprl 4th ers. How are you? Bit of a time difference, but my sleeve was a success and they found a hernia and fixed it. Shoulder pain at first, less now, couldbe because of drugs. One nuse told me preopto drink lots of water to plump up veins, so i drank a litre 6 hours before but this apparently was not right and they may have had to put back my op time. On the good side, they got the needle into mt tiny veins. I was scared witless preop aned used meditation breathing technique just focussingon breath. Avoided tv news and watch look of acquarium fis to calm down. All good now, and so the journey begins. Hope you all have smooth op and recovery.

Hi all, i am now 7 hours post op and only lost my dignity, lol. Op a success and as an added bonus repaired an unknown hernia while in the neighborhood! I was really scared pre op and did my meditation breathing and chose to watch the acquarium fish loop rather than tv as following one liilt fish mesmerised me. Full cocktail of drugs in me so only discomfort. Been up once to little girls room. Drew on your support and got teary when parked prior to theatre. Surgeon came in limping and holding his back but very bright and confident. Seems he has done a good job and hospital is good. Might have a nap now. Affirmation, being wheeled into theatre, What makes you think God woulnt set aside a little time to look after you? You are importantto Him too. Thanks for the TLC. -

Thanks all for condolences. We are all in shock, so sudden, so young. Well, tomorrow is sleeve day for me. I have made my soups (tofu makes a soup creamy but is protein), bought my drinks, dogs are suspicious as both are wearing collars, cats arent worried so long as they get fed. I am nervous but have all of you as inspiration, so what is my affirmation going in? 'My body is going to love this'. Let you know how I go. -

Bowel prep weight loss, how much did you loose?
finallyfree! replied to smom13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Somewhere on here, a fellow in your same situation had to pay an extra $9000 because on surgery day he was 1+lbs under his insurance weight. Eventually the insurance kicked in for him but it was after he prepaid. Search it out. Good luck, talk to your Dr. -
Needing some honesty please

One other thing for consideration. Does your family share your eating habits? Are your children overweight because they are sharing 'your' food? A 30 year old overweight friend of mine died today from a heart attack. She lived with her parents and they all sat on the couch together and ate and drank. I can not imagine how those parents are feeling today. Do they realise how their poor habits affected their child? Not a place you want to go. Your kids may be fine, but it is something to think about. How is your eating affecting them, now and at 30? -

Thanks, been praying for her myself. So young. Still, you never know what changes this will bring to her family. We cant afford to be complacent, but at her age I was too. Glad your sleeve has changed your life for the better. I am pretty sure mine will too. I am a water lover and would love to go boogie boarding again or do a scuba course. Unfortunately, we are getting a lot of surfers bitten by sharks lately, so maybe rethink that. -

Wondering whether to share this when we are being positive. 30year old friend of mine, overweight had a heart attack yesterday. I wasnt there, CPR till paramedics arrived, 2 stents in her heart, induced coma, now they think that if she survives she will have brain damage. This girl runs our volunteer cattery 3 days a week and works as well. My surgery is Monday. I think for all of us, 'there, but for the Grace of God'. I hope she makes it through okay, almost certain her weight contributed to this. -

I dont know how you people do it with family to cook for. I have dietician appointme t on thursday so need to keep to the plan now. Only last night i stopped to think what life will be like a year post op or even 6mths post op. I have spent months trying to find out every single thing that could go wrong pre and post op but hadnt stopped to consider the positives of life after. How weird is that? I am not sure that it is real to me yet. This time next week, wow, still in hospital but all over. I'll ne thinking of you Monie.

Hey guys, i am on day 8 pre op. Allowed 3 shakes/pudding/soup and 2 cups salad or veg. Have cheated a bit with a can of soup on two nights and my salad today was twice the size i should have had BUT my family's easter chocs are still safe in the cupboard, although i hear the siren call. Monie, i am on the 4th too, in Brisbane. I feel better after the salad not so desperate.
