Who's getting sleeved with me tomorrow?! I'm a bundle of nerves and excitement!
-
I'm 3 weeks post op and have very suddenly had issues drinking Water. Even the smallest sip hits my stomach and causes instant discomfort. It's so strange and out of nowhere. Wondering if this is just a little phase? Also, my sense of smell is INSANE. I smell everything and anything and it's driving my insane. Everyone smells terrible to me, my house stinks, etc. What's going on?!

Water and smell issues

NOT pregnant, but it feels just like I am! My husband smells like horrible garlic to me. It's the worst. -
Anyone from Houston, TX?

Awesome! I have ZERO trouble avoiding meats. I was a vegetarian for a really long time, but I was the kind of vegetarian that would load up in starches (Mac n cheese, Pasta, etc.) instead of veggies. Even pre-op, I've only eaten chicken. I don't remember the last burger or steak I had...it could be never! I get so discouraged by my nutritionist's plan for significant amounts of meat first, THEN veggies. I'd so much rather fill up on Beans and vegetables. I actually have an autoimmune disease that responds very well with no gluten, so I've had to eliminate most of that, too. I'm really hoping that the post-op diet I'm on right now will reset me for a cleaner way of eating in the long run. I do loooooove good cheese, though! Sent from my iPad using BariatricPal -

So how does the Davis clinic suggest getting your protein in if not with meat? Beans, veggies, I suppose? I'm super interested in this! I'm newly sleeved and not a big meat-water. -
About how long would y'all say that your incision pain lasted? Just curious!

Awesome! What a cool surgery. I've never even heard about that. I'm in Houston, and I already feel the officer shootings are too close for comfort so I totally get it. So glad everything went well for you!

Hey everyone! Surgery went very well. I have minor gas pains, but it's not intolerable at all. There's one incision that is a little more sore than the others, but again, my pain is never above a 4. I'm walking and using the restroom pretty easily so that's hopeful. I'm not sure if it's the ridiculous amount of pain killers I'm on that is keeping me comfortable, but I'm very surprised with how well I feel! I got to my room around 1:30 yesterday and just slept off and on most of the day. I ate a Popsicle over an hour or so and have been sipping Water and eating ice chips. The worst pain I've had has been a headache from not bringing my CPAP to sleep with My doctor says I should be good to go home today, but I'm not 100% sure I want to. I mean yes, I want to be in my on home, but I have 2 little ones and it might be for the best that I take one more day here. After all, I've met my out-of-pocket max, so what's one more night?! All-in-all, I'm in the 0% regret camp as of right now! Thanks for all the well wishes Sent from my iPad using BariatricPal

So we have the money, but we'd rather pay it monthly over a year or less because we've taken a bit out of savings as it is with paying the doctor and all my required preop visits. I'll call Tuesday and find out!

So I had my preop appointment yesterday where they told me that I'll have to pay my hospital bill of $1,083 the morning of surgery (next Thursday). I've met my deductible and that's my 20% payment. I was not at all expecting to have to pay this at once! They said it's due, but do you think they'll be able to do a payment plan? Of course I'll have to ask when I get there, but is it normal to have to pay your hospital bill in advance? I figured most people get billed afterward and then pay in full or make payments.

How is the preop diet going? Good luck on your surgery! How exciting it is around the corner. I had to do 6 months and it's been over for a while now, I just had to wait until my mom would be off for summer to help me out with my kids. I only lost 10 pounds during it Sent from my iPad using BariatricPal -
Hey y'all, I'm being sleeved on July 7. My husband is able to take a few days off, and my mom will be able to help me a bit, but my 1.5 year old and 6 year old will still be home with me. Surely I'm not the only mom to have had the surgery with little ones around. How do y'all deal with them post-op? How long could you not pick toddlers up for, etc.? I'd love any and all advice!

Good idea about snacks! My 6-year-old is a huge help with making sandwiches and stuff like that. -

Caring for kids post-op

Really, picking her up into her crib, high chair, and changing table are my biggest concerns! I figure I can change her on the couch and have her climb into the high chair on a stool, but getting her into her bed worries me! We've talked about making it into a toddler bed just while I'm recovering so she can climb in on her own, but I'm not sure. Thanks for the advice!
