  1. Reading these stories, and hearing of so many others like the band really cements my happiness over being too scared to get it years ago! My RNY has been a godsend! I eat pretty much anything- except, sadly, steak- and feel so much better! Good luck to you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Post- Initial visit

Darn girl! I felt like I was looking at my own pre op pics there! Seriously. Same body type! Congrats on your journey! How excited you must be to get going. It's a big decision, but like the majority here will tell you- worth every second!!! I wish you much success. For now you're in a holding pattern until your surgery- but after- you will be so happy with your choice! For the record- I'm 14 weeks post op RNY- starting weight- 272 (!!!) current weight- 195!!! See it only gets better!Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. I've never been given a calorie target and never been told how much weight I SHOULD lose. Odd. When I asked my NUT about the calories, her reply was if I ate according to plan, I'd get enough in. Oddly also, when we were discussing condiments as I transitioned to a regular diet, basically she said I did not need to go low fat options. Her reasoning? Say my meal included 2 meatballs and I wanted to put bbq sauce on them, it was only 2 little meatballs- they can't HOLD that much sauce to get me into trouble. Same with a small salad and dressing, etc. Now, I have never cared for anything floating in condiments, but for some that may be a dangerous "go ahead"! Perhaps she told me this because she knows my eating habits so well? Don't know. As for my surgeon- has never given me a goal to lose since pre op. He did mention at my 3 month appointment that months 3-9 were the "sweet spot" for the most weight loss. I laughed because by that point I'd already dropped the equivalent of a fourth grader and didn't think it could get better than that! Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  10. Hi all- I'm curious if anyone experiences "hunger" the way I do. Not head hunger- I don't get that any longer 3+months out. I'm talking REAL hunger. Pre op hunger was rumbling stomach, etc. Now, if I am late for a meal, I'm talking a couple of hours for whatever reason, it is actually a burning pain, and it hurts! The only way to get rid of it is to eat. Obviously, I don't do this to myself on purpose, but there have been times when I've been caught off guard and tied to something I couldn't leave to eat. Usually I carry a Protein bar or two with me for such occasions, but we all know life happens. So- back to my original question- what does REAL hunger from delayed eating feel like physically to you bypass peeps now? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    First NSV

Lol. I was actually SAD one day- put on a pair of pants I had always loved and found not only were they too big and fell right down, I had missed the window to wear them- blew right down past that size! I waited until I hit the 3 month mark to clean out all of the big sizes from my closet and drawers. Don't know why- probably still attached at the time to the idea that it wouldn't work completely for me. Now- have tons of room on my shelves and hangers! lol. Careful about buying things- only a couple of nicer outfits at a time. The rest I get from Walmart and such. No luck with resale shops, but the outlet malls have been a godsend. Even got a couple cute tennis skirts/golf skirts to wear! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Ooh Ooh Ooh! Been off BP for two weeks and AGAIN I missed good stuff! I have to catch up- Favorite song lyrics," We spotted the ocean, at the head of the trail, Where are we going, so far away? Somebody told me that this is the place, where everything's better, and everything's safe" Toad the Wet Sprocket, Walk on the Ocean. Those lines have applied to so many passages in my life...including this journey. I suck at jokes, not even going to make a stab at one. Guilty Pleasure- taking a mid day nap in bed with the fan overhead whirling and no one is home...because I can.

Pulling up a pair of pants I could not get over my hips a couple weeks post op. So many more since then- buying from the regular sized racks, finding my cheek bones, sitting criss- cross in the front passenger seat on a long car ride, hiking with my husband and many many more- 14 weeks post op today. 19. Ok. Ok. I've been reading the thread. I have one comment. It irks the CRAP out of me when someone who HAS NOT had their surgery yet give advice to someone who has about what to do in a post op situation. I mean REALLY irks me. There are instances when unless you've been there/ done that/ experienced that you JUST DO NOT KNOW. Pre op i spent my time here more lurking or asking pointed questions that could/would apply to me. I would never have given advice on what to do. And if you had the same surgery as I had but were simply a week ahead of me- I considered you a vet! Lol. Because you had already encountered day 7 and I was just in day 7! But please! To be honest- I don't want someone who hasn't even been approved for surgery yet to give me advice on eating, exercising, or what I SHOULD be doing. All the internet reading and searching in the world does not compare to actually living the experience. Wow. I've been wanting to say that for a couple of months! Back to your originally scheduled thread. Cheers! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  21. Your recovery sounds a lot like mine. By the end of the first week the fatigue DID kick in, but I allowed myself to rest and then got up and moved by walking as soon as I did. I was walking a few miles by the end of two weeks. Never had an issue with liquids, or keeping food down. Since the first month- I'm now just past 3 months- I completely re-hauled my front landscaping myself, started at the gym with a personal trainer, and kept moving. So embrace what you have, listen to your body and enjoy the new you! I've dropped 73 lbs since March 23 and hit 199 today! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. Hi- couple of things: Once a bariatric patient, always a bariatric patient. Same if you had a heart attack- you always always follow up with your cardiologist. After a year, most surgeons, including mine, see you yearly. They do so for many reasons, the biggest being to make sure you are healthy, no issues with your new stomach, and also- if you start slipping, they want to hear from you to get you back on track. I can't quite understand why it would be an issue for any of us to see the person who helped us transform once a year? Small "price" to pay for health. There are plenty of people who end up with some kind of deficiencies because they aren't following their plans. Plenty who "slip" and are lost. I'd imagine if I moved I would ask my surgeon for a referral to someone he knew so I could continue my follow ups. Many GP docs aren't tuned in to bariatric needs. Just my two cents worth. FYI- post op- saw my doc 1 week, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months and then I will see him at 6 months and 1 year post op. Yearly thereafter. Those are his requirements. And then this happened---

Best I can offer you is this- Stick to the plan. It works. Like every other bariatric patient before me, I worried that I would be the one it DID NOT work for. Lol. Impossible! As long as you stick to it! Eat to live, not live to eat. And your body will do what it is supposed to. Don't rush the transitions of food to see if you can. Take your time. And when you get far enough out- keep to that 1/2 cup of food! One or two extra bites will lead to 3-4 and you will stretch your pouch sooner. Don't wallow in self pity. Get up and move as fast as you can- walk walk walk! Good luck in your journey. I still have 60 to go, but my surgeon told me the "sweet spot" of weight loss post op is between months 3-9 so I'm OWNING these next 6 months!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
