@@Djmohr I have to ask- can you take a pic of the scar? It seems like such a painful surgery! But holy cow amazing results you've had!!! I worry about the scar being very prominent though. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

One thing I know after 5 months today (!!!) is this- we are all different. I began at 272 and now am 186. That's a whopping ton of weight loss in a short amount of time- wit RNY surgery. Others have a slower start. What you will find is that you will teeter on the scale between a couple of numbers and then boom lose. And do it all over again. I stood at 199 for 6 days lol. And then dropped 8 pounds within 8 days. Stood at 189 for a few days, now dropped a few more over the course of a week and a half. No rhyme or reason what so ever. You HAVE to lose- your body was re-tuned to doing so. Do not get hung up on numbers. Avoid the scale for a few days at a time if needed. Your body shifts, changes and adjusts daily- hourly! But the weight loss comes. There is no doubt about that! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Just an FYI for those who think bypass keeps the need for reflux meds away- my doctor has me on them as part of my daily meds. Forever. I had horrid reflux before, none now really, and no evidence of Barrett's esophagus BUT it is part of his protocol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

So once again, I find myself out buying clothes because the ones from 6 weeks ago are falling off... I'm at Walmart (inexpensive) and of course I keep looking to the XXL or XL but I'm squarely now in Larges. After enough trying on clothing, I'm leaving but see a really cute top. Here's the odd-good NSV. I didn't feel like going BACK to the dressing room, so with out thinking, I just took the shirt, pulled it over my head OVER the top I'm wearing. Skid to halt---- huh? Before WLS I would need to strip down to my skivvies! And the funny thing was I didn't think twice before I did it! Boom! And yes, fit perfectly. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Oddly enough, but out of nowhere the last two weeks I am, as well. Surgery was 3/23/16. So a year after to you I guess I'm getting my Protein, Water and vits in so wth? Lol. Have one brewing right now. Getting tired of waking up with a headache every day Tylenol doesn't work and ibuprofen - my drug of choice- is now a no no. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

When did you start doing poop?
LisaMergs replied to rimmarrufo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your "poop"schedule will be different every week for a while. Most of us have experienced the omg out of no where diarrhea too! Inconvenient at best!!! But don't expect to be like before surgery- most of what you will (read SHOULD) be eating down the road will actually be used by your body so your waste volume will decrease. I have what I call "poop days". They can be as far apart as 5-6 days. I'm not constipated, in pain, or bloated. The stool just takes a while longer to "gather up" and work its way down the pike lol. So don't sweat the poop- it will come!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I bought the unjury chicken Soup flavor- and it is actually very good warm like broth. Now that I'm further out, I actually add it to things I would put broth in to boost the Protein. Couple other ideas- add the Unjury plain to your yoghurt when you start eating that, or anything else you're eating- like sf pudding- to up your count. I have a friend who adds that AND NF powdered milk to her morning coffee concoction. And by concoction- I'm not exaggerating! She takes her iced coffee, adds a sf syrup, some Premiere choc Protein shake, the powdered milk AND the unflavored powder. Can you say thick and super sweet?? lmao. But it works for her (2 years out) and she drinks from after Breakfast til before lunch. It's a huge drink!!! Go figure... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

At 5 weeks post op you've been cleared for a general diet I'd guess? Quest bars are probably the best choice out there in terms of Protein and taste. Most tend towards too sweet for me, but the chocolate Peanut Butter isn't as bad. That said, you still want to be certain you are getting three meals in- so if you OCCASIONALLY need to resort to a bar make it your meal and eat it all at once. Nibbling on it through the day is typically a no no- akin to snacking. Remember to hydrate constantly between meals and likely you won't be hungry between. Have fun!!! 6 days post opp RNY having hard time hitting liquid and protein goal
LisaMergs replied to MnGirl40's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I concur with everyone else here- you're still healing! Just try to increase a tiny bit every day and you will get there! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Me too- unlimited raw veggies of any kind in between the liquids. My surgeons group are STICKLERS for compliance, but after their NP began the process she talked them into allowing that at least! Lol Guess she had to walk the walk. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Ok I have to ask...are things going too well? Am I overdoing it?
LisaMergs replied to higher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ugh be careful! You don't want to mess with not getting that protein in. I know sleeves and bypass post op diets are different, but from what I understand, your new tummy takes longer to heal because there is more surface area to heal. You should still be relying on Protein shakes for most of your nutrition at this point and little chunks in Soup is a big no no. Even at 4 months post op almost, if I want soup I drink the liquid first and then have the veggies/meat. Ask around here for advice whenever you can! That's why we are all here! Best to err on the side of caution than hurt or hinder yourself. Good luck!!!!???????????? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I am guessing that you are flying? Did your surgeon ok you for this? Just be careful is all I'm saying. If it is a really long flight be prepared to do a lot of walking up and down the aisles ok? Have fun! Keep hydrated!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

OMG you are so ON POINT about the teeth! I'm cringing and laughing at the same time! Practicing dentistry for 20 years, I ran across more young adults who had eroded the back side of their front teeth. I always was cautious but direct mentioning what I observed to them.

Hi all- i just thought I would share this little tidbit of info with you. Many of you- like me- have/had suffered from horrid stinky skin irritations in the folds of our skin. Mine were always under my breasts, and it actually can hurt. They are actually yeast infections- warm, moist dark areas are havens for yeast to grow. Anyway, after years of trying everything, I finally found that any cream with Zinc Oxide- think Desitin baby rash cream- will knock it out- FAST. Even straight Zinc Oxide like you buy for sun block works. Obviously keeping the area clean and dry is important, but these nasty irritations always rear their ugly heads and I wanted to let you all know that any OTC baby butt cream with zinc oxide will clear you up in a day. That's it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Yeast infections on your skin
LisaMergs replied to LisaMergs's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The infection is intertrigo candidiasis. Also be sure to take date-stamped photos for your back-up paperwork. Someone working in a bariatric practice (not mine) recommended applying Nair to the usual, closed areas if one doesn't experience the infection. The goal, of course, is to have more ammunition to get insurance to cover reconstructive surgery. I don't know what a Nair burn could be treated with and inducing a Nair burn for the purpose is unethical. No comment. Lmao- I wasn't using the Nair for THAT- but for its intended reason- just tried using it in a sensitive area and the sucker BURNED!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Good to know V- about the insurance info. Will definitely need to start documenting this! I love the baby butt cream because it works fast and is cheap! Lol. But I'll certainly ask for a Rx for extra documentation! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Creamy Tomato Soup from Panera
LisaMergs replied to iamjohnbamber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As an FYI- the unjury brand makes a chicken soup flavored Protein "shake". It is sooo good! Mix one scoop with a cup of hot Water. Yum! I've even taken to using it in recipes where I would use chicken stock ( I'm on a regular diet now at almost 4 months post op) Try it!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
One word - DILAUDID. My in hospital drug of choice. Given IV. Morphine makes my chest feel like an elephant is sitting on it. Norco pills were given to me 90 a month for years but I hated the idea of taking them, so resorted to them only when desperate for pain relief. But dilaudid- like a cool sheet being pulled over you gently and as it does the pain disappears. No headaches or nausea with it- at least for me. Ask for it instead of morphine. Btw- there IS a morphine pill, called Embeda. Horrid! The only thing it does is embed your poop and your ability to have a bowel movement worse than any other narcotic!
