InstaPot and Pressure Cooker Question?
LisaMergs replied to gina171's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I COULD NOT live without my pressure cooker!!! I too use the instant release method. Mine is electric as well, so I can sauté any veggies like onion in the bottom first and then add the rest. Heck! I dump frozen veggies on top of everything right in the begin inane have a table ready meal in 30 minutes! With a family of five- kids in sports, tons of running around, I would not have survived the last few years without it!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Revision from VSG to RNY Due to GERD
LisaMergs replied to UpdateYourWeight's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had horrid GERD prior to surgery. Luckily, no signs of damage to my esophagus. I went right to RNY and had a short bout around month 3, but before and since no issues. At 5 months now. Can't imagine doing one procedure and then switching to another. Perhaps with sleeve you have more freedom in terms of food types you can consume, but for me, bypass was the best choice. No regrets. Is Eating Fruit Like Eating Candy?
LisaMergs replied to Elizabeth Anderson RD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I was actually admonished by my NUT for not eating fruit every day. Her belief is akin to yours- our bodies need the nutrients found naturally in them. Her suggestion was veggies with two meals and fruit with one. I stick to cantaloupe, blueberries and strawberries for the most part. Have had watermelon but it gives me a bit of a tummy ache. Honeydew I can't do. Have not touched an apple yet but someone online here suggested grating them so I'm going to try that. Raw banana? Nope. But I have a food dehydrator and slice them, dehydrate them, and will munch on a few chips if I need to crunch. However, I draw the line at beets. They will not pass my lips lol. Thank you again for a wonderful post! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Ridiculous. My child's OPINION on my situation pre op, does not make it fact! Nor does it change this actual topic. You can't "help" me like a sleeve. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I find it odd that you quote and reply to this message, yet you blatantly ignore being called out for the discrepancies in your own statements... I'm thinking you need to take this to your local news instead of here, Gina. Whatever you are going through, this will not make you a "whistleblower", and whomever you choose to "take on" here is really of no service to you. No one here can help you or your situation. No one here can change your healthcare access or treatment protocols. Perhaps actually standing up and shedding light where it has the most impact- in your community- would be the most prudent choice. You mentioned having OT's move you. I don't understand why they are in charge of your housing? Perhaps you are on some type of government assistance and housing- which is fine, I pass no judgement on that. However, perhaps a move to an area that has better hospital service would be a consideration. If you stood back a moment and realized that your retorts back to people here is what stirs the proverbial hornets nest, you'd come to see that your silence would, indeed, stop the insanity this has become. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Yes they are in charge because I am disabled and my current housing is unsuitable. I have already said that I am going to other hospitals where available. Chicken and egg. They post, I post. People come here to this thread, I never ever comment on other people's threads anymore as I have been hated on since I declared that I dislike my sleeve. If it is insanity, it is other people causing it. If you like your sleeve, don't comment on me disliking mine. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App This is my point, exactly. I said nothing inflammatory to you- simply suggested that you might be better served voicing your issues where they have the most impact- in the community where you reside. However, you choose to be nasty and confrontational. And for what it is worth? I don't like or dislike my sleeve since I don't have one. I'm a bypass patient and loving every second of it! Mic drop. So, as I sit here 5 months out, complication-free, and so happy I had this surgery, I have been thinking about meat. I love meat- any and all kinds. My pouch, not so much. Tried them over and over in all different manners and they just don't agree. chicken is about all it will tolerate. Any beef is absolutely out of the question and while I'm sad about not enjoying it any longer, especially a good rare juicy steak, oh well. I have my life back! That far outweighs any issues of sadness over it. The thing is- I would be completely fine not having meat again. I'm not talking becoming a vegetarian/vegan or anything like that. I still love meat-based broths and Soups, start my spaghetti gravy with neck bones etc. So, other than the occasional bites of chicken as my Protein, I rely upon eggs, milk, cheese, lots of yoghurt, and Beans as my protein sources. Anyone else had similar experiences? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I promise You guys are going to love this! My doctor is fine with coffee. And at my last appt, he suggested I consider adding oats and POPCORN to my diet. And this from a doctor who is normally against these types of carbs. I think he wants my weight loss to slow a tad. And meats are weird, so much variability. I can eat shrimp and scallops, but not crab. I can eat chicken, pork and steak, but cant tolerate any ground meats! The ground meats are the most confusing. My theory is because no mater how much I chew ground meat I can never get it to a near Water like consistency before swallowing like I can with other cuts. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I actually enjoy popcorn occasionally. It has to be a specific brand, called Slim Kim's. Any other brand bothers me, Including home made. I actually find it stirs up my metabolism a bit- perhaps by confusing my body- and breaks any stall I am in- and it stimulates the bowels when it's been too long between them. I'm not suggesting this for anyone else, just seems to work for me. Ground meats? Same issue. Can't tolerate them at ALL. Hey!! Here's a riddle for you-- what happens when you mix a Spartan with a Wildcat? Somehow or another you end up with a Hawkeye. Lol. Having that put in a Tshirt for parents weekend at Iowa. Did they provide you with an "expected" weight loss
LisaMergs replied to joei0005's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc didn't give me an "expected". His Nurse Practitioner did, and her number had me at 180. I'm sitting here at 5 mos post op at 181. What surprised me was when I saw my doc at the 3 mo post op visit he said to buckle up because I was entering the "sweet spot" after surgery, and that the greatest loss comes between months 3-9. Told me to make the most of it and keep up the good work. By those calculations, I have 4 more months in the sweet spot and think reaching my "perfect" weight of 140 is very do-able. If I don't make it that low? So what. I feel wonderful!!! And THAT is what counts. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Why butt out? We're smited . Actually, that's quite helpful. I have no restrictions when it comes to condiments of any sort- NUT feels they are fine since I don't overeat anyhow. Thank you! Very insightful information. Shrimp don't agree with me either, but I had the most amazing tender calamari in July that I was scared to death to try but I did- tiniest little speck of a bite at a time. No issues there, but it was so fresh and "just" cooked. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I found more things to do with cottage cheese in the beginning than I can even count! I was a spice store addict prior to surgery, so I had tons of blends on hand that I used. Heck! I even added tuna fish to the cottage cheese, warmed it up with a little shredded cheddar and pretended I was having a tuna melt- well seasoned, of course! And I never want to see tuna again. Ever. Completely Undecided.
LisaMergs replied to okiegirl1980's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm not too certain if you mentioned having arthritis, but as I do suffer from it- both rheumatoid ( an autoimmune disease ) and osteo, as well as migraines. I didn't mourn the thought of not having certain foods, rather the loss of my best friend, ibuprofen. I literally lived on it- 4 at a time. The point is- I would not make your decision based upon the ability or inability to take it. I'm 5 months post op RNY, my RA has NOT FLARED (I fear the word remission still- will revisit that at the one year mark) and the only two headaches I've had post op were easily managed with a single Tylenol. So one never knows how many things will get better post op. Choose your surgical tool based upon what you think will hold you the most accountable and offers you the greatest chance of success. And, of course, you feel most comfortable with. Good Luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
