    Pain question

Hope you're feeling a little better. It will go away- I promise! Everyone was right. Walk. Walk. And then walk some more! When you get home, too. It's nice out, so out the front door, down a few houses and back every 2 hours. Each time, try to go one more house. By 5 days post op I was going around the block. And haven't stopped! I feel like Forrest Gump! Seriously!. Each day I go out, I just think "I'm going to get to ..." And I do! Couple weekends ago I walked 13 miles- and then back!!!- because my car was where I started. At any point I knew I could grab a cab, Ubër or bus if I needed, but i just "Gump'd" away! Keep up posted. And don't stop sipping liquids!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    On a happy note-

The new gym I joined earlier this summer is under construction still but scheduled to open Jan 1. The one I'm at is fine, but this one I can walk to without planning and it's going to be MAH- velous!!! Some current pics- A panoramic shot See that "set back" area there? Hello! Outdoor pool!!! On weekends, they will bring out the tiki huts and its margaritas pool side! This is a lounge pool deck. The lap swim pool and the exercise pool are just to the right and then behind it, so three pools in all. To heck with the Country Club (which I will pass on my way), this place has everything from typical classes, weights, machines, nail salon, hair salon, estheticians for facials, etc massage therapists. I SO DESERVE this membership! And yes!!! Underground parking too! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    SEX

Probably 10 days? Spent the first 5 at my sisters recovering since it was spring break and my kids were out of town and hubby at work. But HELLO by three weeks out? Your hormones go NUTS and there is no stopping them- or you. Then, as the weight comes off, even better because movement, etc, allows for more intimate intimacy, which, of course, rocks. Definitely not buyers remorse there with the surgery Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

4 days post op and I'm worried

I was told that our protein shakes were not to be part of our daily fluid intake. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App That's BS. They count towards liquid. Who told you that??? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Reassurance, thoughts?

Thanks, @@kimini I know there are tons of people here who will disagree or flame me, but premiere Protein is not a good first choice. The protein blend they use lists milk protein concentrate as its first ingredient. Then Calcium caseinate and THEN whey protein concentrate. I mean, what EXACTLY are they saying milk protein concentrate is? And they don't say what percentage each of the three are- I want to KNOW exactly what I'm putting in my body- and first choice is WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE for maximum fast absorbing protein and the second one I want is casein protein for a longer lasting absorption. These companies that have their own proprietary "blends" can keep them in my opinion. Premier Protein RTD is far down my list of acceptable. Bring in the firing squad. 19. Gastric juices break down the Protein so that when they enter your intestines, they can be absorbed. Couple of things to consider- Bypass reroutes the gastric juices as well, so that it is also happening at the Y created of the small intestines ( duodenum). So, we are breaking things down there, as well. The actual protein is absorbed and put to use in the jejunum - the second part of the small intestine. This area is untouched during bypass surgery. The ileum is the last part of the small intestine, which then feeds into the large intestine. It primarily absorbs things like Vit B12, bile salts, etc. and if memory serves, the ileum also absorbs fatty acids. So- to your point- we do absorb and use the amino acids that are broken down from the proteins- and we ALL recall from basic HS biology that amino acids are the "building blocks" of our body. 20. Thought I would share this article I came across. It's well-thought out, succinct and well-cited. (protein) food for thought.... http://www.muscleforlife.com/the-truth-about-protein-absorption-how-often-you-should-eat-protein-to-build-muscle/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Protein shots?

Yuck. Yuck. No. They are indigestible irrelevant Proteins. They need all kinds of additives in them to even TRY to be useful, and none of them do. They are typically collagen Protein which is no where near anything you can use. From what I've seen, the only one that has any place in our lives is called "Yes Whey". It is a blend of whey Protein and Whey Protein Isolate. There may be newer ones I'm unaware of that are nutritionally sound, and I'm sure others will pipe in of so. Reassurance, thoughts?

Ensure? Ensure Enlive? This is the nutrition info for Enlive That is a HUGE amount of carbs/sugar for a Protein shake, as well as calories. If you are using REGULAR ensure, it's worse- because of the low protein count-- You need to be certain that - you are choosing a Protein Drink that has enough GOOD usable protein in it- at LEAST 20-25 G protein per serving - the carbohydrates in it are usable and not sabotaging your caloric intake- your sugars, under the carb section, should be LOW - your drink is not highly caloric - mine are typically no higher than 170-200 calories. "Food" for thought. I can't imagine any NUT allowing for Ensure If you are not vegan/vegetarian then your primary source of protein- and the FIRST ingredient should be whey PROTEIN ISOLATE Not whey blends, or protein blends There are others that are good too, but start with that. unjury, Bariatric fusion, Jay Robb, Syntrax. There are more, but that's a place to start. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
