To each their own. Who are we to disagree? We need to find beauty in and of ourselves any way we can. And when we are overweight, that is a hard task, indeed. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

WLS with Fibromyalgia and Arthritis of Unknown Origin
LisaMergs replied to JenniferVSG2011's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am an autoimmune nightmare. Literally. Started with APA and then Rheumatoid, then Sjogrens. You name it. Though SLE was in the cards but got lucky there. There was some anecdotal findings about people with severe RA having had bypass who went into remission. That's all I needed to hear. Sign me up. In 9 years time, I didn't have a day without pain, fatigue, depression, you name it. Couldn't walk to the bathroom without pain let alone to the corner. Well, I had the bypass in March. Six months ago. Guess what? I will not say I'm in "remission" ( the Rword!) BUT I also have literally been pain free/symptom free since that day. I have NO clue why, and frankly, I don't care. All I know is that these have been the best 6months in forever. I'll take it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I am an autoimmune nightmare. Literally. Great thread. Just saw my RD, who I consider a valuable source, yesterday. When reviewing my Protein totals over the last week, I was over the "suggested Bariatric amount" for 3 days. Knowing how much I exercise, she was fine with that. This lead to a discussion on weight training, lifting, etc. Before switching to Bariatrics, she worked with elite athletes. The long and short of our conversation was - if you are simply using weight for good muscle tone and simple strength, normal protein targets are fine. If you're planning on building up to KEEP pushing the limits of your strength and endurance further and further, protein intake targets need to increase to meet your body's needs. I think @@BigViffer is completely on point. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

It's just part of the process. Depending on how far out you are, if you are cleared to lift weight, do so. If you are unfamiliar with proper technique, a GOOD personal trainer is your best bet. They SHOULD take a comprehensive history on you, and tailor a program for you using different muscle groups, etc. Most importantly, they will teach you the proper way to use machines and free weights. Too much tequila was enjoyed Saturday........but it was a fun birthday weekend and that's my excuse. Gonna get the new ZZTop live album next time I'm on iTunes. Seeing them next month.

I Am Thankful For My Stall
LisaMergs replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
A couple of days does not a stall make. When the scale doesn't move for 3 weeks, THEN you're in a stall. Step away from the scale for a few days. You're going to drive yourself batty. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Bananas are NOT a low carb food
LisaMergs replied to OutsideMatchInside's topic in Food and Nutrition
Ha! Saw my NUT today, yes she is a registered dietician who specialized in bariatrics. Asked her what she thought about bananas? Her reply? Yes. Why not? Eat a half of a small one. Enjoy!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Costs resulting from WLS
LisaMergs replied to HuneComz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the ladies- there is a shop in Michigan called Haystacks. You can find them online. They make a skirt called "Switchstacks" that I love. I purchased three of them when I was wearing a 16-18 in size large. They still fit now that I'm a 10. Lovely material that is stretchy, but not a bad, show every lump, stretchy. Very very flattering. Great thing is they are reversible, so you get 2 for 1. They're about $50 each, but I've gotten so much wear from them it was truly worth it. They have other styles as well, but the bang for my buck came from the two-sided prints. No waistband either, just slides right up and sits on your hips where you need them. I've included a pic- the flip on the top shows you the reverse print. They have a couple dozen choices. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

New here: Surgery Date 9/19 in the DMV
LisaMergs replied to Aleathia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! Just checking in on you and hoping your surgery was a success! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Never had a moments worry or thought about it. Until the night before. I called my kids out of school for the day. I needed to see them before and after the surgery. That was the only worry or thought I had. The oldest took them all back after I came back to the room- lol - they all had afternoon tests and wanted to get back!!! Such good kids I have lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I think I'm just still enamored with shopping off the rack in regular sized clothing. More than anything, constantly surprised they fit. Did have a "clothing" funeral at about 4 months out. Don't know why I kept them when they were falling off, but one day it just "clicked"- I have no need for them, nor do I want to ever go back there. Good thread topic. BC/BS Why are people paying out of pocket ?
LisaMergs replied to Tanette's topic in Insurance & Financing
My BCBS IL covered everything, minus the $30 copays, including follow up with the NUT (RD). Starting Oct 1, we switch to United Health Care. Horrid policy!! Heck, they don't even Cover speech therapy for kids unless it is part of another issue (autism spectrum, etc). I'm certain they won't cover my follow up with the surgeon, but I'm 6mos so the next one will be at 1 year, provided no issues in between. Thankfully, my 6 mo check is in the morning, so it's still covered. I definitely need my husband to have a discussion about what is covered and not for this group Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I was driving as soon as I got off my pain meds--4 days? Hell, not supposed to drive for 6 weeks after a c-section. Tell that to the mom of 3 whose husband left for China the day after the last was born! (Um yeah, me, and he was gone for 3 weeks!!). You do what you need to do...
