Hi, I've been banded since April and today i'm experiencing something new. I don't typically get sick or have problems eating much (i.e. lean cuisine pizzas, etc)...but today i'm so tight that when i took a sip of my iced latte it's making that bubbling noise and is taking a while to go down (and just uncomfortable--not really painful though...just really tight feeling). I'm trying to think what I did differently to cause this and the only thing is i had a big workout last night and also did sit-ups for the first time (30). Could that be it? It's so weird to only have this happen now. ugh i really want that latte too!! Thanks for your help in advance.

So i've been banded for 3 months and i've lost 41.6lbs. I keep losing each week and i've decided to look back in my journal and see what's "making this work." The day i opted to get the band (i'm self pay...even though my insurance would have covered it) i decided i needed to do something. I'm 29, 5'5 and 250lbs (was 292 the day i got banded). I have people all the time ask me what the "secret" is...and i just say that i'm ready. To someone who is in my shoes...you all know what that means...skinny people just nod and stare. So what am i doing? I guess i'm on the non-diet diet. I've realized that i allow myself to eat a lot of things--like crab cakes, tuna salad with real mayo, potato salad at a bbq, etc. Normally, pre-band, i'd eat a mountain of these things and feel guilty the next day (then eat because i would feel like a failure). You probably know how that feels. So how can you lose while eating (basically) what you want? I'm sure all of you are shouting in your heads SMALL PORTIONS. I guess my "secret" is that i make my meal about protein (so i've never had pasta, bread or rice--that includes pizza and such) but i haven't cared so much if it has fat. To date--it's working--and i realize i may need to change that as i get closer to goal. I listen to my body (which is harder than one would think--again--skinny people don't get that)--i try to make decent choices, but i allow myself to enjoy the things i crave as long as they avoid the listed items above (oh and no desserts). For me--it's a good balance between what i crave and the things i have to give up. I can eat enough of the "cheating" things to make me feel like a bowl of pasta is no biggie. For someone else that balance may be different, but i think it's important to find what works and really believe in it. I've noticed that for the first time i stand a little taller and dream a little bigger. I have a very long road ahead of me, but i'm excited to go down that path.

2009 - New York City Banded Together-Lapband Talk National Event
Bozzj replied to CoachCher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Sorry i didn't read this before posting before. Livingston is far from NYC (40 minutes without any traffic)...and it's not the best area--especially at night. I'm not sure if i'll drive there or not...so i guess put me as a maybe. -
2009 - New York City Banded Together-Lapband Talk National Event

i'm ok with either nj or nyc because i live in north jersey. i recommend that if you "do it" in nj you have it close to NYC...like in Secaucus or at the Meadowlands..then it would be 10 minutes from the city and people can enjoy it more. Just a suggestion. So, count me in...just let me know the details when you have them. -
sounds yummy. i always crave sheperd's pie when it's chilly outside. i use some help from the store during the week due to time issues... pre-made mash (real) in refrigerated section bird's eye steam bag veggies (i use the garlic peas & mushrooms) 1lb lean ground beef reduced fat cheese can ff cream of mushroom can golden mushroom preheat oven to 400 so i start browning my meat. meanwhile i pop in the veggies in the micro. when they are done (veggies) i pop the mash in the micro. So when the mean is browned i add the veggies and about (i don't measure) 2 tablespoons of each Soup. Stir. Dump the meat in a pam'd dish. top with cooked mash. add some cheese. cook until brown and melty. I know many are "afraid" of carbs, but i find that for me--if i still eat what i crave, but i make sure i measure it...then i stay on track. it's work for me so far.

happy bday bloo!! So today's an exciting day for me because i broke 60lbs!! Yay. b: what else---venti iced 7 pump skim chai tea latte l: ugh i have a business meeting and they are ordering pizza. i never had pizza on the band. it's a thin crust...i'm a little scared...but i might try it and go slow (i can eat bread so i'm thinking i'll be ok with like a half a slice). d: going out to eat. i always slurge and don't even think about calories on fridays...we'll have fish or whatever. i just eat a small portion.
-
just to chime in here...i also think it depends on what you're eating. i tend to still eat higher fat foods...so if i ate 5x of that i'd be in trouble. so i usually drink my breakfast (chai tea anyone lol) and i usually have cream based soup for lunch aka fattening..but i never over eat...and then dinner. if i snack (and lately i do) i have a 100 cal. pack of something...so that i can still feel like i'm cheating, but it's a small quantity. my method isn't for everyone, but it keeps my sane. i think you'll find what works for you as well.

b: grande starbucks ban/choc vianno with shot of espresso made w/ skim. *This was my first time getting this and it's actually very good. not sweet. has lots of protein and fiber and around 200ish cals if made with skim. i'll get this again. l: (will be) sm. chicken ala king soup. yum. (cream based). d: gosh i have no idea. i have frozen beef/veg wontons at home that i can stir fry with a little sesame oil, light soy & hoisen. then put this chili garlic sauce i have from a house of thai. i might make that. but who knows lol. workout: i'll head to the gym again today with my friend. we usually do 30 min, mon-thurs on the ellipical (wow i can't spell) and i burn around 380/390 cal. and i almost die each time lol lol.

Hi! I buy them. yes i'm insane. it's $4.23 for a venti. I do get a lot of gift cards and i use them as well. I usually order this soup for lunch that is priced well at like 3bucks...so that's why i splurge on the tea. :rolleyes2:
