Anyone not on a pre-op diet before surgery?
Bozzj replied to angelface's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well my bmi is just under 48 and no preop diet. My doc thinks it's mean to put patients through that (his exact words) lol and said he doesn't feel it's necessary. Most people do go on one though...so follow whatever your doc says and be happy:biggrin2: I did quit diet soda 2 months prior to surgery though so the "loss" and yes it was one for me..wasn't so great. Glad i did... -
I'm about to end clears and start mushies. So excited to get some food in and yet i'm worried at the same time that i won't make good choices. Time to take control and do this. I've decided..and will try to remind myself when times are tough (like now--hunger) that i will not be fat anymore. I'm 28 and i can barely clean my freakin house. I worry about which restaurants I go to (if i can fit in the seats), i'm afraid to fly...i'm literally watching my life pass me by. I'm sick of it. I just hope I have the courage to DO this. Really do it..the right way.

i'm starting mushies tomorrow and my doc said no refried beans. He will allow me to have that in the soft solid phase (along with chili).

How much weight did you lose in the first month?
Bozzj replied to Brandy~'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm going to weigh myself again tomorrow (i'm not doing it everyday) and i'm a week out of surgery and down probably 15ish. i'm expecting to gain a few when i start mushies tomorrow...not going to stress...but since i'll be on mushies then soft solids for the next 6 weeks i'm expecting to lose quite a bit. i can't imagine not losing then i'll only be eating 3 4oz meals. lol that's like..nothing. -
What did you eat the 1st few days?
Bozzj replied to katie78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well i'm ending clears today and i don't think Protein shakes (Water based or not) are considered clears..at least not with my doc. i did, however, buy protidiet's protein cold drinks (i like orange and grape) and drank that. i had ice pops (i switched off between sugar & sf so i'd have a little energy) Jello broth (beef and chicken) apple juice cut with water, any juice really you like -
well i'm going to the bathroom. and i think i'm getting most of my liquids...def. 36 oz. or more. it feels like a squeeze (like gas) and then goes away. weird. must be gas. this lasts for a month?

Hi All, I just had surgery this past thursday and went to the doctors today for my check up. I figured i'd give ya an idea of what it was like thus far because i loved reading those threads:rolleyes2: The Surgery: It wasn't as bad as i was expecting. I was sore (stomach), but was able to walk with assistance the first few hours after surgery. I was in recovery for 3 hours then i went home (out patient facility). I felt crappy that day, but not HORRIBLE...i didn't take any pain meds (only tylenol). The second day it got worse. I wasn't hungry, but very sore and the gas was the issue. I walked and walked lol to try to get it out...that stayed for 2 days. On SUnday i felt much better. The gas was almost all gone, but i've been hungry...and my energy is low. So, i switched to sugar ice pops (instead of sugar free) here and there to get some sugar in my system. That helped quite a bit. Today I went to the doctor and i lost 8lbs so far. It felt good to get out, but i was tired and wanted to go home after all was done. On Friday i start mushies..and that includes (for me) mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, mashed sweet potatoes, pudding, Water based Protein shakes, cottage cheese, runny scrambled eggs with ricotta, farina, pastina, cream Soups, etc. No Beans, no oatmeal. I'll have 3 meals a day: 4 oz. each for 2 weeks. After that i'll go to soft solids (tuna/chicken/egg salad, soft fish, chili, ground beef/turkey, etc etc). That'll be until i go to the doctor at my 6 week mark. So there's my experience thus far. 8lbs down..162 to go:biggrin2:

Just had surgery on Thursday
Bozzj replied to Bozzj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, thanks. Yes, walking (slowly) is how the gas moves down. My back hurt the worst from the gas...i just could not get comfortable for days! I'm sleeping fine now and my spirit is way up because of that. Plus, i'm off until Thursday so i'm just taking it easy. I'm sure you're stress test will come back fine!! I didn't have to do that because i'm self pay. -
you know what's weird...i'm scheduled for surgery on thursday (17th) and no one told me this. i just took advil because i hurt my back and some immunity complex from alka seltzer (to fight colds) because i have a sore throat (i just wanted to fight it off before it really comes). great.

Has anyone used them? Advanced Laparoscopic Associates in NJ
Bozzj posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'm going to my first seminar next week and these doctors are presenting: Dr. SCHMIDT, Dr. TRIVEDI & Dr. EWING . Has anyone used them? Any info. I'm new to this site and the information here has been helpful. If anyone used a doctor in North Jersey and would recommend them i'd love to hear about it. Thanks, -

Hi, My doctor is Dr. Ewing and he's from Advanced Laparoscopic Associates in Hackensack, NJ. Maybe the two offices have similar names? Here's there website: Advanced Laparoscopic Associates :: Home -
Hi All, I'm getting my band on 4/17. I've read every single thread (i believe) on Protein powder/shakes and i'm all confused. I wanted to buy some powders (flavored) so i can try them and have them stocked up prior to my date. I know this topic is probably dead by now:smile2: but can you list you top and/or worst protein powder/shakes. There are so many choices and some have a lot of fat in them...so obviously i want to have a healthy choice. Thanks so much!!!

Hi, I've been reading the food threads and trying to figure out which Protein shake (either pre mixed or the powder stuff) I should buy. My doc recommends Protidiet- so I ordered those (just 3) to taste. Any recommendations? What I'm a little confused about is how much fat/carb/cals should a shake have so that i won't be drinking the wrong thing after surgery (after the clears of course:thumbdown:) Someone mentioned "Essential Natural 100% protein w/ micellar casein- in vanilla cake" in the other thread (i think it has like 120 cals and 2 grams of fat). Is that bad? So again...any favs so i don't buy the gross ones:lol:

I've mentioned before, but i'm getting banded on 4/17. I was on the phone with my mom last night and she asked if i ever heard of this...someone she knows- sister- got weight loss surgery (she's not sure which) and this guy's sister told my mom that she got parkinson's 3 years later. She was told at the time of surgery that this was a risk. :sneaky: I never heard of that. I did a quick search and nothing came up. Maybe these people are wrong, but I wanted to put it out there and see if anyone ever heard of this??
-
Congrats! I don't think it's selfish at all...i mean your kiddies want a mom who is confident and secure in her body..you'll teach them to be by just being that way yourself. So look at it that way. Don't forget to take lots of pictures!!

Yay!!! That's awesome. Any advice for us newbies? I'm getting nervous as my surgery approaches. -
What can you have on the pre-op diet?
Bozzj replied to nesser081982's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have one. My surgery is 4/17. I'd ask your doc..it seems like all are different. -
Anyone ever try Protidiet Shakes? That's the brand my doc promotes...just wondering if anyone ever had it..

Self-pay - need financing advice
Bozzj replied to tricia1105's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i would NOT take a loan on the 401k. personally. I'm getting surgery on April 17th and i took a capital one medical loan. I put down 5k and taking 10k in the loan for 3 years at an interest rate of 5.99%. I'll try to pay it off before the 3 years though, if possible. -
can i just say boo boo kitty...you look freaking incredible!!! i'm getting banded 4/17..such an inspiration. now how did you fit time to do 1.5 hours of exercise? did you do it right from the beginning (i think i'm too out of shape for that right away). please share.
-
I had the flu:thumbdown::biggrin: My surgery is April 17th...holly it's coming so fast! I'm starting to get nervous. I had to schedule my pre op tests today..i'm a self pay so i'm hoping my doctor will be cool and submit the requests for the ekg, blood & xrays himself so that the insurance will cover it as part of my physical. Anyone have any experience with this? I tried to explain it to my doc's nurse today over the phone and she said to just bring in the forms from the lapband doc (requesting the tests) and "we'll see"
-
my doc offers capital one medical loans. I thought it was shady until i looked into it. My surgery is 15k...i'm putting 5k down and taking 10k in a loan. Based on my credit i'll pay $304 monthly for 36 months with 5.99% interest built in.

No hunger on liquid diet??
Bozzj replied to txaberry's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
See i don't mind doing it at all...for me it's the start of a great tool i'll get soon. Ok another question..how soon does this stuff start? Like just this week my surgery was scheduled..now what? They said i'll have to go for tests, etc, but when? Should I just wait until it gets closer (again it's 4/17)...i don't want to bug them, but i'm curious about the preop diet thing and what's coming next. Arrrgh!! Why did i forget to ask this in the consult!! -

is it weird if my doc doesn't require a pre op diet? i forgot to ask them (getting banded 4/17), but someone on this board who goes to my doc said she asked and they said no.
