Brand spankin new - SIPS surgery March 10 2016
PrincessMonsterTruck posted a topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Hey folks - I'm brand new to this forum. After months of research and (im)patiently waiting, my surgery is set! I'm scheduled for SIPS on March 10th 2016 in Raleigh, NC. I'll start my liver reduction diet in about a week. In the meantime, I'm enjoying my last few sips of Coke Zero, while I can. Super stoked about this new chapter and finally having the tools to work the weight loss, after an entire life of being heavy. It's all I've ever known, but I'm really looking forward to a new lifestyle. Anyway, I'll refrain from getting into some heavy-duty topics for now. I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi! -

That's great! I'm 4.5 months postop now, and I'm halfway to my goal weight. I'm down 115lbs now, and about a month ago I got on a plane and did NOT need an extender. I won't lie - I cried. Very emotional and a proud NSV, for sure. You'll get there soon enough and it will be fabulous, just like you! -

Oh, and I store my daily vita, ins in a little vitamin weekly tray - 7 daily trays in a weeks supply. And I refill them once a week. I set alarms on my phone to remind me to take them throughout the day (I take them 3 separate times per day). -

Thank you! No, I don't find it difficult to track my macros. I use "MyFitnessPal" to track my food and exercise (so, that takes care of tracking protein, carbs, fats, calories, sugars, fiber, etc). I'd HIGHLY recommend it (it's free), and it really helps! You can use it preop too - helps give you an idea of where you're at. I use "WaterMinder" to track my hydration. It's second nature for me to track those things now, so it's not really cumbersome once you develop a routine. -

I'm 4.5 months post-SIPS surgery. Since my highest weight (which was the day that I started my pre-op diet), I've lost nearly 112 lbs. I am approximately halfway to my goal weight. I know the last 112 lbs won't come off nearly as fast as the first half did. But I'm very encouraged my progress in such a short time. I typically hit between 90-110gms of Protein each day, I limit my carbs to less than 75gms/day and I avoid any foods that have more than 10gms of sugar per serving. I get a minimum of 70oz of Water per day. I'm 35 years old, in Raleigh NC area. HW: 401 (BMI 59) SW: 379 CW: 289.4 BMI 42.7) If you have any questions, hit me up. Good luck along your journey! -

Hi there! I am just over two weeks postop. Recovery is going great. I've been able to tolerate everything that I've consumed (drinks & food). I had a slight complication during surgery (a leak in my small intestine), but he fixed me up in surgery and I haven't had a problem at all. Im getting around really well, too - I just get fatigued quickly. So far, so good! Good luck along your journey, and if you have any questions, I'd be glad to help. xo -

The official term is "biliopancreatic diversion w/ duodenal switch". It's a hybrid. I only have one anastomosis (instead of two in the standard DS), and my common channel is 250 cms. -

Hi Princess. I too am BRAND NEW. Surgery date scheduled for April 5, 2016. PSYCHED!! I can not wait to start this new journey of LIVING. My goal is to feel comfortable in my skin. Getting on a plane and not needing an EXTRA strap will probably make me cry..but they will be tears of JOY! Chat more later. hi Joyce! Welcome to the group! I had my surgery on March 10 (today is day 11 post-op). I am recovering well, and I'm super excited about the potential of my future. Like you, I am also really looking forward to some NSVs like not using a seatbelt extender on a plane, as well as sitting in booths comfortably, crossing my legs and no longer being burdened by medics, issues (diabetes, hypertension, etc.) good luck on your journey, and keep in touch! -

2016 March Sleevers
PrincessMonsterTruck replied to AnnetteMcM's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
The b-complex vitamins I have for immediate post-surgery are gummies by vita fusion. My surgeon said they'll be fine as long as I chew em up really well before swallowing. -
A minor/silly question in the grand scheme of things.....Will I need to remove my gel nails before surgery? I understand that the anesthesiologist needs to see the nail bed to monitor oxygen levels. Was really hoping that I could leave my gel nails on, and just wear a clear (or no) polish. Any thoughts?

Well, so much for consistent answers - lol! I guess I'll just have to ask my anesthesiologist at my pre-surgery appt at the hospital a week before surgery, since it seems to vary. I appreciate everyone taking the time out to respond. Good luck to you all! -

what will i need the first month postop
PrincessMonsterTruck replied to Jessica Ellison-Correa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll get a list from your doctors office. I would recommend that you try to refrain from buying too much in advance. I know you want to obsess and nest and plan. You don't know how your new stomach will behave. Things that you find tasty now...you might not be able to tolerate post-surgery. For the first two weeks, I'd recommend having some chicken broth, sugar free popsicles, bottled water and some protein drinks. After that, you'll start introducing soft foods...and you'll need to experiment to see what your new stomach will tolerate. -
Did anyone's spouse lose attractiveness when they got close to goal?
PrincessMonsterTruck replied to Chrystee's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I am still in the pre-surgery stage of my journey, but this situation has also occurred to me. My husband is a large man. I'm a large gal, so it's been fine for us. We are attracted to each other, and share a similar lifestyle now. Although he says (and displays) that he is supportive of my WLS, I am concerned how my dramatic weight loss will affect him, and our relationship. In a perfect world, I will have a very positive experience with it, and he may consider it for himself, and then we can continue together with the new lifestyle. But, what if he doesn't? I don't want him to feel guilty for eating something that I can't have. And I don't want to feel resentful towards him. When I first started this, I kept saying things like "OMG my whole life is going to change!" Then I thought of my husband and our life together. How hurtful that statement must have been to him. I realized that although my weight was certainly a major part of my life - but, it wasn't the whole thing. My marriage with my husband is awesome, and I don't want that to change at all. To head this off, I'm doing everything that I can do proactively communicate with him so we can squash those obstacles. But, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little scared.... I am sorry that I couldn't offer you much advice or solace for your situation. I do wish you the best and hope that you can work it out. I suppose if I can offer any advice - it would be to encourage you to keep communicating with him. Show him that although you may look different... You're still the same girl that he fell in love with.
