    I Think I Am A Sleeve Failure!

I am most definitely a gastric sleeve failure! I had the sleeve done in Nov 2012. During the transition period back to regular foods I lost about 50 pounds. Nothing that I was told previous to the surgery seemed true for me. I was continously hungry and even tho I forced myself to eat less I never had that feeling of fullness or satisfaction. Once I got to regular food I also force myself to eat less but immediately started gaining weight. I have now gained back the 50 plus 33 more pounds. After a point I got so discouraged I finally quit trying. Increasing excersize and decreasing calories did nothing to help. My diabetes has gotten worse and I am now on 2 kinds of insulin as well as my blood pressure raising. I take 2 blood pressure meds also and both diseases are out of control. Unforturnately this procedure is not reversible. I wish I had never had this done. I hate my life now.
  2. After much trying to make my lap band continue to work for me my surgeon has said enough is enough and he wants to remove it. I was banded in Apr 07 and did fantastic (lost 102 pounds) for the first 18 months when I started to experience a lot of nausea/vomitting and the most awful pain in my left side near the port. It felt as if someone had their hand inside just twisting as hard as they could. They did an upper GI and after 1 sip of the barium the radiologist took it from me saying it wasnt going anywhere. They said it looked like my esophagus was very swollen and needed a rest so they removed all the saline. They had me come to the office in 2 weeks and they put the same amount back in. Immediately I started with the same problems. The next day they removed it again and said it needed to rest longer to come back in six weeks. At that visit they put 1/2 the amount I had previously had back into the band. I seemed to be doing of for a couple of weeks and then it started again. This time they removed it and did a CT but didnt see anything causing it so decided they needed to fill slower as was originally done after my surgery they put 1 cc. But again within a couple weeks it was the same. This has been my lifestyle now for 2 years-put it and take it out. I have done everything to try and determine if it was me. I would sit with a timer when I ate and chewed for 60 seconds and waited 60 seconds between bites. It got to where I knew I couldn't tolerate solid food so if I didn't want to throw up I would eat puddings and ice cream and cream soups. I thought if I could stand it and was throwing up several times a day I would loose weight again but here I am with 70 pounds of the 102 back on and an emotional wreck. I asked my surgeon if he was considered putting in another one or another form of wls but he said he wouldn't even consider it for 1 yr. So now I am back from a size 12 to a size 20 and waiting for them to schedule my surgery.
  3. <HR style="COLOR: #c9ced4; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #c9ced4" SIZE=1> I was banded April 2007 and had done great until this past September when I started experiencing some left side pain. I also work in the ICU at the same hopsital where I had my banding done. The surgeon who performed my surgery had since left but I spoke to his associate about it when he came in to make rounds. He ordered a esophagram which looked as tho my esophagus was swollen so he came up to the unit and removed all the saline to let me rest for a couple of weeks. I went back in 2 weeks and told him the pain was still there but not as bad with the saline removed. He then put 1.5 cc back in. I had been at 3.4 previously. In two weeks he put me back to 3 cc and then 2 weeks later back to the 3.4. I still have the same pain but since then it has not been as intense. However now I have a whole new set of problems. On feb 18th I went to work and shortly after getting there I became very hot and sweaty. I sat down and put my head down on the nurses station for a few minutes then got very sick to my stomach. I got up to go to the backroom and that is the last thing I remember. The next thing I knew there was about 20 people kneeling around me. I was on a backboard and c collar and had a huge gash in the back of my head. Apparently I had passed out and then stopped breathing and they had to do cpr on me. After getting my head closed with 9 staples I was admitted for observation and had a complete cardiac workup all which was negative except that I have a low heart rate. Upon admission they found me to be extremely dehydrated and that and the low heart rate was all they found. I was discharged in two days. No our hospital does not have a bariatric surgeon and I have to go 90 miles to see one but all the drs that were involved in my care (family dr, cardiologist and endocrinologist) are all convinced that it has something to do with the band. I was wondering if anyone else has ever had any problems such as this.
