I need to know it gets better!
Rvamom replied to Rvamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the replies everyone. It's very encouraging. I think tonight I'll try taking my antinausea med and painkiller and see how it goes. What is the walking supposed to help with? It seems to give me gas pain in my shoulder when I walk for 10-20 mins -
When should the hibger/cravings subside? I'm 3 days post op and I'm still hungry and craving junk food

Got sleeved on Monday and I feel way worse than I did the first and second days. I think I got a virus unrelated to the surgery. I feel nauseous 24/7 even taking Zofran. I'm so thirsty but am sticking go my limits. Someone please help! What might settle my stomach?

3 days out and feel like ****!
Rvamom replied to Rvamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone! My husband spoke to my Dr (lost my voice) they said I can now drink to my comfort level. Had a protein shake and feel a little better. What liquids made you feel the best the first few weeks? Also, are we allowed to wear a belly binding thing for support? -

Yes gas and diraheah. Idk they didn't seem very keen on answering questions. They were also very reluctant to give Zofran and pain Ned's in the hospital. -

I put in a call to my surgeon but no call back. They said not to drink more than 1 Oz every 15 minutes. No fever but I have lost my voice. -
I'm getting sleeved today in 4 hours and I am super nervous and scared. I hate hospitals. If you pray, please pray my liver has reduced enough and the surgery is safe and successful. Thank you!

Thanks for the support yall! Good luck next week!

Rvamom replied to Rvamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Congrats on all your weight loss! How much more do you have to go? I'm 260 right now, I'd be thrilled to get to 160 -
If everything goes according to plan my surgery should be approximately 5 weeks from now. Any tips on things to do before surgery? Things to buy? Things to do like exercise more, idk? I'm nervous about the actual aurgery but excited. Did you encounter any surprises in the hospital?

If you were an emotional eater before surgery... how did you adjust to the eating guidelines after surgery? Did you deal with transference addiction? Did surgery help you end your emotional eating? Tia.

If you had surgery over a year ago or more... how do you feel about it now? Do you regret it? How do you feel about your new eating habits? Is your weight difficult to maintain? I'm considering surgery and one concern I have is what eating would be like in the future. I have trouble sticking to diets/healthy changes now so I worry I'd fail after surgery.

Why can't you just eat less? Getting family to understand
Rvamom posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I want my families support in me doing the surgery. What do you say if people ask "why can't you just eat less?" "Just exercise more" blah blah blah. I want to give them a real answer. How do I explain obesity is a real medical condition that needs treatment? I can't just over come it with positive thoughts. They also think my depression isn't real and I need to cheer up, look on the brightside, appreciate what I have etc.. -
Why can't you just eat less? Getting family to understand
Rvamom replied to Rvamom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's only my mom and dad. We are super close, ita complicated. I wouldn't want to hurt them by not telling them. They think they are looking out for my best interest because the risk of surgery scares them. Plus they helped me buy my house and car etc so I think I owe it to them to listen to their opinion. I just wish I could get them to understand the medical side. They are both really thin so they don't get it. -
Congrats on your weight loss. Tissues amazing! Did you ever think you'd get to the 130s before surgery? That seems impossible for me to even think about. I haven't been 130 since I was like 11 years old.

That's awesome! That's exactly where I want to be. I'm a size 20/22 now. At 185 I'm a size 12. Do you mind sharing what sizes you started and ended at?

Thanks so much! Congrats on the loss! 160 is about my goal weight. What was your starting weight if I may ask? how long after surgery did you meet your weight loss goal?

Do you ever miss your old eating habits? I want to change but don't trust my willpower

If diets failed before, what changed?
Rvamom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you had tried dieting before surgery and had not been able to stick to them long term, what changed after surgery? How are you able to stick to the new diet now? I've tried Atkins and low cal diets but always slip back into old habits after 3 months at the most. Will surgery help me? How do I get the will power to change? I feel like a food addict. I want help but idk how to get it.- 11 replies

What made you decide to have surgery?

Thank you so much! How do I quote someone? What is the function/purpose of clicking the check mark on someone's post? -
What made you decide to have surgery?
Rvamom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry if I have posted too many times today but this forum has been so helpful! How long did you consider wls before you contacted a doctor and began the process? Do you wish you had done it sooner? Waited longer? My doctor recommended I do it about a month ago and I have my initial consultation this week. I know the process could take six months or a year until surgery but I'm wondering if I'm rushing my decision making. What made you finally decide to do it? Was there a "straw that broke the camels back" moment for you where you realized you needed it? Ty -

Medical tests/procedures after surgery
Rvamom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What medical tests and procedures did you have to do after surgery and before discharge? I've read about the surgery online but I can only seem to find vague answers. I read about the swallow test- how unpleasant is that? Did you get the compression booties? Did you need alot of blood work? How long did you stay in the hospital? Did anything surprise you about the experience? I've had an emergency csection and I've heard the recovery from gastric is not any worse than that. Ty- 6 replies
