Doctor says eating too few calories...????
Banded08 replied to Banded08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well I can eat absolutely anything and not have any problems. My daily rountine is usually the following: Breakfast: Yogurt parfait. vanilla yorgurt mixed with .5 scoop of Protein powder, berries, topped with Kashi Cereal for crunch. Lunch: Usually tuna salad with low fat mayo and wheatables or leftovers from night before: steak, chicken, vegetables Dinner: usually chicken, or steak and vegetables I can eat a pretty good amount, it's mostly willpower that makes me stop. -
This is to Renewedhope about Metformin. Before my surgery I was on and off of it for one year because my body could not handle it. I noticed since my surgery my Avandamet did not effect my body like it did prior to surgery (making me very ill). So I pulled the good ole Metformin out of the cabinet this week to see if maybe it has the same effect and I have not been sick once. The reason I tell you this is because Metformin stopped my weight gain before being banded unlike anything else I just could not deal with the side effects. I cannot explain it, but I have had 0 side effects now. This whole banding thing is amamzing.

You are so right, it's not just the not losing, but depriving yourself of everything really starts getting to you. Now I eat like a "normal" person, and lose weight!! -
Lots of trouble yesterday morning - my first PB's!

Thanks for post. I was banded on 01/25 and have not had it happen yet, I swear I keep eating things secretly wanting it to happen and it doesnt. I guess I should be thankful, it does not sound fun! -

Thank you all for your support, but I have excellent news. After throwing my scale in the yard, one wee later I realized it is essential in our journey so I went and bought a new one. The same day I went to the dr so I made sure our scales where the same. LOW and BEHOLD upping my calories WORKED!!! I have mysteriously lost 10 lbs!!!! This is absolutely amazing, I don't know what to do with myself!!! I hope this helps others out there that are counting every calorie, starving themselves, trying not to go above 500 calories and not losing anything. I have been averaging between 1000 and 1200 calories and I am losing, it's the best of both worlds!!! -

Just an FYI for those of you who might be going through the same thing I am, I went to the doctor yesterday, weighed, and low and behold I've lost 5 lbs!!! I guess upping my calories did work. I suppose this journey is going to teach me a critical virtue: Patience!!! -

Thank you so much for the help. I was eating 550-600 calories, then upped them to 1000-1200 per the doctor. I take avandamet, I got off Metformin after not being able to tolerate it. I think I may try to get back on it. I'm just going to keep controlling the things I can control and have faith it will happen. Again, thanks for the support. -

I threw the scale in the yard today. I upped my calories as I was told and I did not gain, but I did not lose either. I have not lost 1 POUND since 2 weeks after my surgery. I will succeed!!! -
I'm 2.5 weeks out and I lost 10lbs pre-op, 8 lbs post-op and I have not lost one pound in a week. Do you think I'm doing something wrong? I'm having an average of 250 calories a day. I tried what someone said and upped my calories a couple of days and went back down but nothing. Is it because I lost so fast the first couple of weeks, or am I doing something wrong? The only thing I can thank that I've changed is 1 tblspoon of Peanut Butter in my shake. Thanks for the help.

I just got my first fill and was freaking out before hand. I have been a baby through this whole process. I absolutely hate needles. It was the easiest thing ever. They did an ultrasound, told me not to look, one needle I could barely feell, then the fill, I mean I felt nothing. Amazing. I am so glad I did it, I feel restriction much like after the surgery. He gave me 2 ccs, so we will see how it goes. Hope this helps some of you who have read that it feels like a bee sting, which freaked me out.

Hi, I was banded on 1/24, this I'm glad I found this support group. Over the last week I have officially Lost IT!!! Everything I'm doing right now is strictly will power, and I am losing. I am all of a sudden ridiculously hungry and seriously think that I could eat anything. From what I am reading this seems normal. My question is I have a Drs. appt on Tuesday, should I be asking for a fill? It is my 4 week post op, when did most of you get your fill. I cannot imagine waiting any longer. Thanks for your help.

Is a 1/2 cup of food keeping you full?
Banded08 replied to Joaquin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am glad you posted this, I have been feeling the exact same way in the last week. I was banded on 1/24 and I was doing so well until recently. My doc also said 1/2 cup and I have been STARVING and losing the battle. I've decided until I get my first fill I am going to eat when I am hungry, because if I do not, I'm going to really make bad decisions. I'm scared to death of a fill but I'm going to beg for one this week. -
Thanks for the reply, I was banded Jan. 25.

Hi, I'm new and I am so glad I found this thread. My life was turned upside down 2 years ago when I found out I had PCOS. My weight had been going up over the years so I hired a personal trainer and low and behold I gaine over 65 lbs in one year. After my bullheadedness lost, I finally gave in to all of my many Dr.'s advice and had the surgery. I absolutely cannot believe that I am LOSING WEIGHT!!!! My question is: After being on Metformin for over 1 year, my body did not respond well at all to it so I began taking Avandamet, does anyone esle take it? Also, I lost weight on the pre-op and one week after but the scale has not moved since. I stopped taking my Advandamet and I am wondering if you think that is the reason why. Thanks for all of your help.

I am 2.5 weeks out and I've done the exact same thing picking up a toy for my bulldog. There is a certain bend and twist that sends a pain through my port, I figured it's just still healing.

Help....The scale will not move!
Banded08 replied to Banded08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the help, it's really all I want to eat, plus I think I'm really getting caught up in the weight loss. -
I was in the same situation, what helped me the most was a heating pad, I read that from someone else. I wrapped it around my side, it was uncomfortable at first, but after a few minutes the heat kind of numbs it.

Hello, I am new to the site but have been reading in the background for months. I was just banded on 01/23 and this is much easier than I ever thought. I suppose I'm either weaker or slower than most because I have still not returned to work, still in pain, and stayed 2 nights in the hospital compared to everyone else's short stay. So my question is when do we start exercising? I've walked my dogs around the neighborhood a few times and felt uncomfortable, not really pain. However I do not want to get behind, I have PCOS and I know exercise will significantly help. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks.

What to tell co-workers

One week was what I was told also, but I was banded on 01/23 and I am not going back anytime soon. I think it's different for everyone, I also was in the hospital 2 nights verses everyone else's 1. Just know you may be out longer than one week.
