  1. I had my surgery on Thursday morning and got home today at 1pm. The procedure wasn't bad at all!! I was up walking right after the surgery. I walked a lot yesterday and today and was diligent about my breathing exercises. My doc prescribed morphine and I had a bad reaction to it...profuse sweating and nauseous...was even heaving a little bit. They switched me to oxycodone and I was much better!! Today they had me do a "swallow" test to be sure there were no leaks in the band. The solution that I had to swallow was NASTY, but I was a good patient!!! I plan to catch up on sleep since I got none in the hospital Overall, not a bad experience.

    painful fill

first fill today. No pain at all..not even a prick. No numbing agents. He did ask me to push my stomach against his fingers so he could find it easier...... taking the band-aid off was the most pain that I had!!!

    Are fills painful?

That is CRAZY :scared2:!! I had my first fill today. My doc had me push my stomach muscles against his finger and lift my head while he finds the port. He felt around til he found it and then put the needle right into the port. I could feel the saline going into the band. It didn't hurt, it just felt cold (kinda cool!!). Maybe the next time you go in, you can try doing this with your muscles to help the doc a little bit.....:smile2:

    Getting my first fill today

I had my first fill today and it was a breeze!! I didn't even feel the prick of the needle. The doc had me push my stomach against his fingers and lift my head. This made it much easier for him to find it and make sure that he got it in the first time. I could feel the saline go into my band and definitely felt restriction when I swallowed Water. I am wondering why some people don't get a fill until 3 months after their surgery. My surgery was May 1st and I already had my first fill. I have a 5cc band and they filled it 1.5cc's.... I have to stay on liquids today and tomorrow and then real soft foods for 2 days. Overall it was a good experience.

    First fill today!

I'm curious to know why it took 3 months before you had your first fill? I had my lap band on May 1st and had my 1st fill today....less than a month later. Initially I had a big loss, but then it halted. I think that this fill will get me going in the right direction again!!
  7. I just got back from the doc and had my first "fill". I asked him about the pain that I am having and he said that it is a muscle that is still healing. The fill went very smoothly. I didn't even feel a prick when the needle was put in. He put in 1.5cc's. My band is 5cc's. I am only supposed to have clear liquid today and then very soft food for 2 days.......
  8. I had my surgery on May 1st. Over the last few days, I have been experiencing a cramping feeling on my left side. I know that it isn't my port or my lap band. It is a cramp that is on the upper right front side of my abdomen. I will see the doctor tomorrow for a fill, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this kind of cramping.....
  9. Enchanted, we both started at the same exact weight!! You are doing a little better in the weight loss dept. I am only down 16lbs. I just had a fill so I am hoping to be on the same track as you....... Keep up the good work!!!
  10. I think it is probably part of the healing process for your muscles, but definitely check with your doctor. I just got back from having my first "fill" I am having a "runners stitch" pain on my left side and I asked him about this. He said that it is a muscle that is still healing. My fill was completely painless!! I didn't even feel a prick when he put the needle into the port!! I have a 5cc band and he put in 1.5cc's. Next time will be .75cc's and then .5cc's for future fills. It was cool because I could feel the saline going into the band!!! I am so impressed by this entire experience so far. It has been a breeze for me!!!

    May 1st bandsters!!!

Where are the May 1st bandsters? How is everyone doing? My incisions are almost completely healed and I am doing pretty well with the Protein and the Water. I do get hungry, but I am eating every 2 hours. I ate 1 pce of pizza yesterday. I pulverized each bite in my mouth before I swallowed. Biggest victory is that I only ate 1 piece and I was COMPLETELY satisfied!!! That is a far cry from what I used to eat!!! I hope everyone is doing well. Why don't you all check in and tell us about your victories??

    Hello Fabulous Fourties!!!

I was banded on May 1st!! I have lost 16lbs and feel great!!! The surgery was a breeze and I am now concentrating on getting the water in and eating 60oz of protein per day..... So far no problems. I go for a fill in less than 2 weeks!!! I am already off my diabetes meds and couldn't be happier!!!

    Banded Monday May12th

I was banded on May 1st. I also had the pressure/gas pains high in the middle of my stomach. My doc said that it is normal. I am now over 2 weeks out and the pain is gone. I think it really takes a while to get all of the gas/air out from the operation. Good luck!!

    Hello Fabulous Fourties!!!

Janine: You don't even look like you are carrying that much weight from your photo!! Where are you hiding it? Is that your baby? How precious!!!

    Keeping food down

My doc says that I should stop drinking water 15 minutes before and 1 hour after I eat. When you think about it, the water that you swallow before you eat will not infringe on any food that you eat afterwards. They just want the food to stay in the pouch longer so that you don't get as hungry as quickly

    I am scheduled for May

Since I have been banded, I only drink 1/2 cup of coffee in the morning. I just don't want any more than that!! If you are doing well on the pre-op, I would say give yourself 1 more diet soda as a reward because you WILL NOT be able to drink it AT ALL after you are banded!! Good luck to all of you who are being banded next week!! It really is a snap!!!

    Hello Fabulous Fourties!!!

As far as measuring food, I would divide it to however much you think you ate. For example, if you only ate 1 bite of tuna fish, figure out how much of the can you ate. It may be only 1/10th. There are 2 servings per can of tuna fish, so divide the serving size by whatever you think you ate. If there are 7g of protein in 1/2 can, then you probably ate about 2grams....Do you follow me?? I think the best you can do is guestimate something...it's better than nothing!!!
  24. Miss Meliss: How are you doing? Did everything go ok for you?? Welcome to band land!!!
