Seattlelite: I feel the same way as you...a human pincushion. I have had 2 hernia repairs prior to my lap band surgery as well as laporascopic tubal ligation. I don't think that I will be wearing a bikini any time soon!!! I had a very bad reaction to morphine. Once they took me off of that, I was fine with percocet. Glad to hear that you are on your way to a healthier you!!!!

I had my first fill today!! Once again, another breeze of a procedure!! I didn't even feel the prick of the needle!! The doctor had my lie on the table, tighten my stomach muscles and lift my head. I had to do this to put pressure against the port while he felt for it. He filled me with 1.5cc's and then had me sip Water. I felt the saline going into the band and when I sipped water, I definitely felt restriction. It kind of sat there for a minute and then went down slowly. I am on only Clear liquids today and then very soft food for a couple of days after that!!! :smile2:

1st fill today for this May flower!!
bandfan1 replied to bandfan1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Allison: that "foaming" is the same thing as "sliming"!! It's pretty gross!! When the food got stuck, my body just produced an over abundance of mucous (must be an automatic response). I just kept spitting it out and while I was trying to burp, the food came out... Sorry to be so graphic. The good news is that it was not as bad as actually throwing up used to be from your stomach with all those nasty acids!! I am convinced that my old bad habits are making this happen. I have to cut my food on my plate and then put it into my mouth. I am so accustomed to taking big bites and big swallows. It's a big adjustment. By the way, I just noticed tonight that you had sent some personal messages. I wasn't ignoring you, I'm still learning how to navigate this site!! I hope all is well with you and all of the other May flowers. -
1st fill today for this May flower!!

I have been experiencing "sliming" a lot in the last couple of days. I was "filled" about 1 week ago. I was ok until just the last couple of days. This morning I left the house at 10:00 to get my haircut. There was a wait, so I went to get an Egg McMuffin at McDonalds. I took the egg out and ate it. I took 2 bites of the ham and everything got "stuck"!!! When I returned to the hairdresser, I went straight to the bathroom because I thought I was going to vomit. It was really disgusting and took a good 20 minutes for it to resolve. Luckily the girl who cuts my hair wasn't ready for me until after the food went down!!! They must have thought that I was bulemic or something because I must have gone to the bathroom about 10 times!!! It is not a fun experience. Later in the day, I took a small bite of meatloaf (very soft). It got stuck!!! :tt1: That's it!! No more eating for me!!! Just kidding -
Weigh in... how much have u lost?
bandfan1 replied to Southern Missy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, Miss Mellis, I feel the same way. :tt1: I should be happy that in less than a month I have lost 18lbs... I want more!! . I have been being very hard on myself because the scale hasn't moved in about a week. It is probably my body adjusting to my new weight. Once a week sounds like a good plan!! -
I was banded on May 1st. I feel like I get very hungry at times also. I have started planning my day before I even have Breakfast. I write down what I will eat over the course of the day and divide it into mini meals. It helps keep me on track. Breaking the old habits is my biggest curse!!!

Sorry to hear that you are having so much discomfort. You were probably not misled, you just had a bad experience. I was expecting worse and I can honestly say that I had no real pain. I did have a stitch in my side for a while, but that has passed. Hang in there. It will get better

Congratulations Kamicola!!! You are on your way to a healthier new you!!!:thumbup::thumbup::biggrin::thumbup::thumbup:

I am sure that he just wants to be sure that all of the paperwork is "perfect" before he sends it in to insurance. When I asked my doctor for a letter, I sent him a sample letter from the surgeon (you know, with fill in the blank lines). Well my doctor (or more likely his assistant) just filled in the blank lines instead of typing a letter. It wasn't even on his letterhead!!! The surgeon is your advocate, so don't be upset by his asking for a little bit more.... Trust me, it will be worth the wait!!!

Congratulations Allison!! I know that you have been active on the boards and I'm glad to hear that you are finally banded. I was banded May 1st and I am already down 19lbs....no complaints here!!

Lexy: My fills are 100% covered by insurance... Check with your insurance carrier. -
Agreed!! In nautical terms, there are the "anchors" and the "motors". We all need to find the "motors" and stick closely to them!! Whenever I see something that is just one person's personal opinion and it is negative, I just keep going to find those who are successful. Whatever you think is what you will attract (The Secret!!). Don't even dwell on the nay sayers... Move on and surround yourself with successful people!!! Here's to success!!! :biggrin2:

LapBand Food Stages Lists Suggestions

I think it is the old eating habits that are the most difficult to overcome. We can do this!!! -
I was banded on May 1st and am now off my diabetes meds. It feels so good not to have to take the meds anymore!! It is worth it to pursue this surgery. The insurance company will end up spending MORE money on meds and other obesity related illnesses if they don't approve the band!!!

well put, Jack!!!

Anyone have Dumping Type Syndrome????
bandfan1 replied to HotMama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on 5/1 and I am still having episodes of diahrrea!! At first the doc said that it could be my body getting rid of the painkillers that were given in the hospital. That can't be the case now. I will have "normal" episodes, but usually around 2pm in the afternoon, I have at least 3 bouts of pure liquid diahrrea... I'll give it a few more days and then will put a call in to my doc if it is still there. -
2 hours seems long. My doc told me that I can drink up to 15 minutes before I eat and 1 hour after I eat. I think that the goal is to keep the food in the pouch as long as possible. The longer it stays there, the longer you will feel full and not hungry.

I am a May bandster and my favorite Protein drink is made by Herbalife. You can go online to order it. It is the best tasting by far!! As far as protein goes, yes you can consume too much!!! If you consume more than 50-60g per day, you will hinder your weight loss!! Good luck to all of you Jazzy June bandsters!! The surgery was a breeze and my first fill was totally painless!!!!

Weigh in... how much have u lost?
bandfan1 replied to Southern Missy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on May 1st. I have lost 16lbs and am THRILLED with that. I have NEVER lost that kind of weight in less than a month. Most of the 16lbs came off the first 2 weeks after surgery and then I pretty much stopped too. When I went to the doctor he said that it is normal to slow and stop losing for a few days. First, your body has to adjust to your new weight. 2nd, you don't want to have too drastic of a loss... it's not healthy. I was not put on a pre-op diet, so that is why there is not more than a 16lb loss. I was filled yesterday and I definitely feel the restriction (1.5cc's into a 5.0cc band). I had to do liquids yesterday and mushies for a couple of days. I expect to see the scale move again very soon. Just because the scale is not moving, it doesn't mean that you aren't losing inches. You should take measurements of yourself. I am already down 2 pants sizes !!! Also my doc told me to aim for 50-60g of Protein per day. If you go too much over that, it will slow down the weight loss. Keep your chin up, you WILL succeed!!! -
If you cook scrambled eggs on a very low heat (any Protein for that matter), they will not be rubbery. I am able to eat scrambled eggs with no problem, but I definitely cook them VERY SLOWLY!!! Hope this helps!!

1st fill today for this May flower!!

Yes, you have nothing to worry about!! The only problem that I have had since is that I completely forgot that I had the band and I took an allergy pill this morning (a big one too!!). It sat in my throat for a good 2 hours. I kept sipping hot liquids to melt it!!! I am definitely feeling restriction with this fill....
