  1. I went in for a fill on Monday. Last month I went in twice in 1 week because I wasn't feeling any restriction. This time I told him again that I felt very little restriction and that he filled me twice the previous month. He pulled out all of the saline and realized that I only had 1cc in my band. According to his calculations, I should have WAY more.....more like 5cc's. He triple filled me and told me to come back next Monday. He will measure the Fluid again. If it is less, then I will have to have a "dye" test (fluoroscopy) where they can see where the leak is. He said that if it is in my port, it is simple procedure to replace the port. If it is in my band, I will have to go in for an overnight stay and the full operation again!!!!!! Let's hope it's just the port!!!!!!
  2. I went for a fill on Monday and there was only 1cc in my band. Last month I went twice in 1 week because I felt no restriction. The doctor took all of the fluid out and there was only 1 oz in the band...there should have been well over 5oz.... So...... He triple filled it yesterday and I have to go back next Monday to measure how much is left... If there is a leak, it is either in the port or the band. If it is in the port, it is a simple procedure to replace the port. If it's in the band, it is another operation with an overnight stay!!!!!!! Let's hope for a port leak!!!!

Heather, I'm with you. It looks like we are at the same level, same starting weight and same goal weight. I just keep telling myself to "keep at it!!" I am making lifestyle changes and this is the LAST time that I plan to lose the weight!!! All the best to you!!!

Where is all the CT Lapbanders??

You're kidding, right? Slow? Not at all!! I was banded on May 1, 2008 and haven't even reached 50lbs yet!! That's slow!! I have significantly cut back on my quantity, improved quality of food. I am doing everything RIGHT, but my body is just not responding!! I go to the gym 5 days per week and sweat my butt off!!! 90lbs is amazing!! Don't forget that it will go slower the closer that you get to your goal weight. Keep up the amazing work and focus on the positive!! Non-scale victories will be important during this last segment of your weight loss.... I will be seeing a nutritionist this week and am going to ask my gyn. to run a "hormone panel"...

    LapBand Food Stages Lists Suggestions

My best suggestion would be to INCREASE YOUR EXERCISE... It's not fun, but it will make the scale move again... Good luck!!!

    Hello Fabulous Fourties!!!

The best advise that I can give is to get on the exercise bandwagon as soon as you can after you are banded!! You will see a big loss at first, but without the exercise, it will be sssllllooowwww!!! Missmeliss, congratulations on your success!! I'm right behind you!! P.S. I had the numb arms when I slept too!!!

Weigh in... how much have u lost?

I'm right there with you. Same loss and working my butt off!! I am going to the gym 6 days per week. Doing 45 minutes of cardio and 25 minutes of strength training. My diet consists of 50-60g's of protein, legumes, high fiber cereal (I munch on this for snack). I have definitely changed my eating habits for the better and I expressed my frustration to my doctor. I made an appt. with a nutritionist to fine tune the nutrition some more. I have been a slow loser all my life. In fact whenever I have gotten to this point in the past, I have always relapsed and started gaining again...more every time. I am determined to get past this "hump". On the bright side, I have always shown a loss everytime that I have gone to the doctor, I have improved on my bad habits, I feel that the weight is gone forever..... Keep plugging along. You owe it to yourself!!!

    May 2008 Slow Losers

I am seriously thinking that I have weight loss resistance. This doesn't change the fact that I need to continue to make good food choices and exercise. I have been closely monitoring what I eat and vigorously exercising for 1 hour six times per week. The scale is not budging. I looked online at "metabolic syndrome" and I feel that I have all of the characteristics. The next time that I go to the doctor I will ask for a hormone panel blood test. Hormones have a great deal to do with how little or much, how fast or slow that you lose weight. I will continue to do what I am doing, but now I am seriously thinking that my hormones are out of whack (cortisol, insulin, progesterone, estrogen, etc.....) I'll let you know how I make out. At the very least I will have peace of mind knowing that I am not CRAZY!!!!!

Lap Band Fills / Adjustment Info

Eat whatever will go down, but focus on protein. This is the last "hard" food that you will eat until a couple of days after the fill. The first day, they will have you stay on liquids and then "mushies" for a day.......

Weigh in... how much have u lost?

Yes MissMeliss, we are the same age!! What a great feeling for you to be where you were in your 20's!! I think that my slower loss is due to the fact that I have type 2 diabetes (one of the reasons why I went forward with the band). I have stepped up my exercise and now I just have to be patient. I have made many lifestyle changes along this journey and my food choices are one of them. My family is now eating healthier and we are ALL feeling better!! Hopefully my diabetes will be gone as I lose more weight.... Where in Texas do you live? I have a friend that lives in Victoria. I just connected with another friend that I met on this board. I am from CT, but I flew out to AZ for a conference. My "band" friend drove up to meet me!! It was very cool!!!! All the best to you!! I will continue to watch your amazing progress and we will cheer each other on!!!

    Type 1 Diabetes and Lapband

I feel that it is the best decision that I have ever made. Don't get discouraged if your weight loss is slow...as long as it is PERMANENT!! The diabetes has been one of the reasons that my loss is slow, but along the way I have changed a LOT of my bad habits. It is a work in progress, but now that I know I am going to live longer, I am ok with that!!! Good luck!!! P.S. the surgery was the easiest of any procedure that I have ever had!!!

NSV Thread for the May Bandsters!

I have the same trouble...my stomach is the LAST to lose!! I have started doing targeted stomach exercises like crunches, reverse curls, etc... You can do them right in your home!! I haven't seen any drastic results yet, but I know that it can't hurt!!! Good luck!!

Where is all the CT Lapbanders??

Jenna: The doctor is giving you great advice!! Most of all, you MUST be willing to change your old eating habits. With the band, you can still eat just about everything!! In fact, some of the bad food like chips and Cookies go down easier than some of the healthy food (like meat). You also must be willing to gradually start/increase your exercise. When you first get banded, you will drop a LOT of weight. After that, you will need to start making the lifestyle changes that caused the problem in the first place. Don't expect to be at your target BMI for a long time. On the flip side, you WILL get to your target BMI eventually....the rate will totally depend on you!!! I have been a slow loser because I kept putting the exercise off. Over the last 3 weeks I started exercising 4 days per week and have lost 4lbs!!! I love the fact that the band can help me with portion control and slow down my eating. That is the main purpose of it for me. It is still up to me to put the "right" foods into my mouth. I agree that you should have the procedure done ASAP, otherwise you are looking at type 2 diabetes, joint problems, sleep apnea, heart disease, etc... If you DON'T do this now, these nasty diseases are sure to make a presence. If you think you are tired now, you will be 4 times more tired if you develop any of the above. If you are searching for a doctor, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Kurt Roberts (yale new-haven). Whenever you call, someone will ALWAYS answer the phone. They answered all of my questions. Dr. Roberts has an outstanding bedside manner and he will personally give you your fills. Overall my experience with them was outstanding!!! Do this for you, your future baby, your husband and most of all, YOUR GRANDCHILDREN!!! You will now live a long life and be able to enjoy them. Feel free to contact me privately. I live in Trumbull and would be happy to answer any questions that you have!! All the best to you!!!!

    May 2008 Slow Losers

I have type 2 diabetes, and I am SURE that this is the reason for the slow loss (in addition to not enough exercise). When I had my blood tested last week, cholesterol went down, triglycerides went down, but my A1C went up!!!! I have to keep fine-tuning what I eat and I am determined to figure this out!!! Everyone on this thread seems positive and we have all acknowledged our responsibility here, so hopefully we can use this thead in a productive way to keep each other going....

    May 2008 Slow Losers

Carrie_C: It looks like we are at the same spot with weight loss. I was banded May 1st and part of the reason for the slow loss is because I didn't exercise like I should. I do "home parties" and the last 4 months have been crazy with little time for myself. During the day I run a daycare out of my home. I have been exercising consistently for about 2 weeks now and I feel great!! The scale is STILL not moving a lot, but it is moving sslllloooowwwwlllyyyyy!! I guess I can't ask for more. I am focusing on Protein, Water, exercise and healthy eating. I have been doing some research on unrefined virgin coconut oil and I am VERY impressed with what the research is saying about it.... Most of all, it is supposed to be a catalyst for weight loss (among all of the other amazing qualities). I don't have a specific site in mind, but if you "google" it as: health benefits of unrefined coconut oil, you can read up on it. I just thought that I would pass this information along to anybody who is interested. Best of everything to everyone on this journey!!!! I am also being diligent about Calcium, Multivitamin and extra Vitamin D (I found a gel cap that is really small and easy to swallow).
