    What are you eating?

I was banded February 1, so I'm on day 13 now. I'm having a protein shake for breakfast, grilled fish and a green vegetable for lunch, and the same for dinner. Sometimes I have fat free cottage cheese with soft canned fruit (rinsed to remove any extra sugars) in place of the fish/veggie combo. I'm also drinking three bottles of water daily, and sometimes half glass of dry white wine in the evening. My doctor says wine is fine! I don't know if I could have done this, otherwise. Honestly, on past diets, I missed wine more than food! LOL!

    Port placement???

I'm only a week ahead of you, banded 2/1/08. My port is in the same place you describe, and still hurts some, although it's much better than at first. From what I've read, it can take three weeks to six weeks to get completely over the soreness. I have been wearing my old, stretched out bras since I've come back to work. If you have a wireless, I suggest you wear that. Better to be a little floppy than to be in pain! LOL!!! I know this, too, will pass, and we'll both be better off in the end. Good luck to you! Oh, you might also think about buying a bra extender. The looser, the better!
  3. I had the horrific shoulder pain that comes with banding plus repair of a hiatal hernia. It was just lovely! It finally went away when I went back to work on day 4 after my surgery. (I sit at a desk all day, so it's ok) Anyway, I guess sitting up made all of the difference, because the next day, the shoulder pain was gone. Oh, and also, I bought a percussion massager and beat the hell out of my shoulder! It hurt, but it felt so good at the same time. LOL! Don't know if that made the difference, but the heating pad and gas-x strips did nothing for me.

    ?? for post op

My surgery was February 1. Four days of horrific left shoulder pain, so much that I hardly noticed the pain in my gut. Now that the shoulder is good, the pain from the port area is really irritating. Does anyone know how long that lasts?
  5. I was banded on February 1. All is going well so far, though I'm a little sick of liquids already. When I went for my pre-op appointment, there was a woman there for her four week checkup, and she had already lost 35 pounds! She may have had to be on the pre-op diet longer than I was because of a higher BMI. I only had to do it for a week and a half. Anyone know what kind of loss I can expect in the immediate future?

HELP! New problems with throwing up

I'm newly banded, and still on liquids. If you are going to slime or throw up, how long after you eat does it occur? I'd hate to be in a restaurant and, well, you know. YUCK! So, if you're going to have a reaction, how long does it take?

    What to tell co-workers

I told only my immediate supervisor. I felt she needed to know, just in case I ever have complications while I am at work. And missing 3 to 4 weeks? I had my surgery on Friday, and I'm now back to work on Tuesday. Not the most comfortable day I ever spent at the office, but certainly bearable. I intended to tell everyone that I had hurt my back to explain the slow movement and grimaces of pain, but it turned out that I had a hiatal hernia that had to be repaired during my lap band surgery, so now I can explain without having to lie. The law stipulates that your employer has absolutely no right to know what your medical leave is for. No need to tell anyone that you don't want to.
