12 Steps of Overeaters Anonymous
maddymoo replied to Alex Brecher's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you! You have no idea how reading tis has helped me! I was banded in Feb 08 and I feel like i have fell off the wagon a little. I felt defeated. After reading this I realize that there are still some things that I need to overcome....thank you. -
I am nervous about Thanksgiving coming in a couple of weeks...just thinking about some of that food is making my stomach hurt! It is awkward to be at a table when everyone around me is eating different kinds of food, that are not necessarily "easy" on my stomach. Does anyone have any tricks for making Thanksgiving easier on your small stomach?

hey! i got the lap band in february, and i had started to look into getting it when i was 18. some people told me i was too young, but i had tried everything else and failed. this was the best decision of my life. we actualy didnt pay much for my surgery, my moms insurance cover like 95% of it, but we had to do a lot of calling and doctors appointments to make it work. tell your parents to call their insurance provider and to check all avenues. 2 things i wish someone would have told me before my sugery is that, YOU need to accept this happening to you, YOU need to be confidant that having this surgery doesnt change who YOU ARE AS A PERSON. also that dont be suprised if some of your friends dont really support you 100% on this journey. i was blown away when my best friend told me that she didnt want me to get smaller than a size 14, cause then i would be smaller than her. do this for YOU, and for YOUR OWN REASONS. God bless- maddy

hey! i got the surgery done when i was 19, and it was the best choice i have ever made. i will admit, there will be hard days and REALLY hard days but it is worth it. just one piece of advice....make sure you are ready mentally and emotionally before you get this done. people will be watching you and if you stop losing weight for a week they will be asking why you stopped and some may even make you feel bad cause your not losing it fast enough- and you need to be cinfident enough in yourself to make sure you dont let people get you down.

i got this surgery done when i was 19, and i do have to admit that this surgery does take a toll on a person psycologically, and i wish i had been better prepared for it. this is something that you need to live with the rest of your life and the person would have to ome to terms with that, and i know that i am facing a hard time with that.

I had my surgery on the 11th and 6 days after that i weighed myself and realized that i have lost 21lbs! i am thrilled, but all of a sudden It just....stopped . Is this normal? Is it because my body went through a HUGE weight loss change?

I need support, but mom wont let me have it

i was diagnosed with polysistic ovarian syndrome. the year i got my period, i gained 80 lbs, - and it wasnt from food. my doctor says that there are cysts on my ovaries when are controlling my hormones, etc. when i lose weight, the doctor can do an operation to remove the cysts, but i cant lose weight on my own b/c of the PCOS. I was on a year program monitored by the Universeity of Michigan- to study PCOS- with strict diet and excercise- and i can proudly say i didnt cheat- i had only lost 11lbs. granted after i saw that i wasnt losing weight i kinda gave up trying, and made it worse. but if i never had those cysts i would keep a healthy weight, thats why my insurance approved me for this surgery while i am only 19. yea, i still live at home. i do respect my mom, and i am trying to understand her feelings too -

Why would people be that way? why would they want me to fail? If i knew someone who got banded i would be rooting for them all the way~ i would NEVER tear anyone down. this frustrates me -

I have a problem. I am getting the band on monday, and my mom doesnt want me to tell anyone about it, no family, no friends~ no one! She has told me that she feels like a bad parent for "letting me get this way" but i dont see it that way at all. i have medical issues that cause me to be overweight, and my friends know that, and know they cant know i am going to be healthy. my mom says i can tell people after i get surgery, but i need support NOW! I understand what my mom wants, but i need support in my friends.....what should i do? -

i am in the EXACT SAME BOAT AS YOU!!!!! only i am on my moms insurance, and that covers my surgery. talk to them, and get answers. remember, even if you think you are qualified for the surgery, you better make sure the surgeons do too! -
A couple of pre-op questions......help please
maddymoo replied to Grayorm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hey!!!!! i am in the same boat as you are right now. yes, it is normal for doctors to tell you to eat that kind of food, it is to shrink your liver, and believe me it is HARD! it is because you are not used to it. here is a trick that i use in restaurants. i order like a salad with meat on top for protein, and i ask the waiter to serve me half and put the other half in a to-go box, so i dont feel the pressure of eating a whole meal. i also try to look forward to what i CAN have, and not look at what i CAN'T have. hey, at least try it! i wish you the best of blessings, ~maddy -
My surgery is 6 days away, and i am freaking out! I am so nervous! I am only 19, and I see people who are older than I am and have had the surgery, but I do not see anyone my age! Is there anyone out there?
