Pear Martini??? Sounds yummy! Please share the recipe! -
I want him to succeed while keeping our current form of government. I do not mind careful regulation so this short of mortgage shenanigans does not happen again. But our government is the author of the current mortgage laws that got us into this mess in the first place. I am against long term nationalization of private business - that is the socialist slippery slope. Obama has stated publicly that he wishes to keep banking private - so until he proves otherwise I will keep him to his word.
-
Good! I do understand that it is my hard earned money and that is one of the reasons it REALLY pisses me off! I would like to kick the bunch of them in their collective balls. hahahaha
-
Either way our economy will rebound. It always does. I just do not want to have to use my hard earned money to bail out private business. The situation sucks no matter how you look at it. We can disagree on the process of getting out of this mess but I think we agree that we need to get out of it. Many people are hurting and that is a shame. I hope Obama can do it, I really do. I want our country to succeed. I am worried that it may be throwing our hard earned money away as the bailouts do not seem to be working but hopefully soon the credit markets will thaw. We are all in the same boat!!
-
Maybe they didn't want the bailout because they have sound business practices and did not need the money because they did not recklessly lend. Banks were regulated before the bailouts.

BJean - I like companies that take good care of their employees and are socially responsible. I certainly was not trying to offend you by pointing out the purpose of a corporation. I was just trying to point out that corporations do not have to do anything that is not specifically prescribed by the law. There primary objective above everything else is to make money for stockholders.
-
BJean - My degree is in Business with an emphasis in accounting. I am currently working on my Masters in Accountancy. I am by no means an expert in bankruptsy. There are different avenues of bankruptcy. If it is liquidation then assets are sold and proceeds are distributed among creditors. If it is a restructuring which is what I think is the best course of action - then a judge trained in this process guides the company in things such as renegotating contracts such as loans - labor union agreements etc. This restructuring has the sole purpose of joining all interested parties together - work together with a clear end date to reimmurge from the process. Loans may be restructed, employee benfits modified, assets sold - any number of avenues are open to achive a stronger company in the end. A bankruptsy judge has the power to force lenders, unions etc to help the company with lower rates etc. When you get the tax payer involved it is a sticky process. Taxes were not designed to bail out privatly owned firms. Our government is not expert in running private firms. That of course is my opinion. This type of government action has never happened before in our history. I strongly disagreed with Pres. Bush on his bailout and continue my disagreement with the current administration. I think it is treading on very dangerous grounds. I am opossed to nationalizing private firms. They are either strong enough to survive, go into bankruptsy or go out of business. This is a short answer to a complicated question. Hopefully it helps!

I totally agree that the companies should have turned down the bailout money. They sold their souls the moment they took the cash and I think the vast majority are regretting the decision. Hopefully they can get the money back to the Treasury soon and cut the chains the government hung around their necks when they cashed the check. I agree that socially responsible corps can be profitable. It does lower the amount that they can return to stockholders as there is a cost to be socially responsible. I am all for corps deciding how they want to be seen in the world. Some corps will use social responsibility as a marketing strategy to further their market share. Which will hopefully return higher profits to shareholders. Its all about returning profit though - that is why they exist. It feels good to buy from a company that shares your views what ever they may be - such as a company that says they recycle etc.

I don't have that HUGE college debt for business school for nothing! hahaha

Knowing was good - very good special effects. I was hiding my eyes more than Beth. She is apparently fearless with the scary parts. She told me she likes the Saw movies! No way would I watch that stuff!! -
There seems to be some confusion as to what a corporation is designed to accomplish. It is not in business to protect the rights of employees. A corporation can choose to be "socially responsible" but it does not have a legal obligation other than to follow the law that have are currently in place. A corporation is an immortal capital acquisition vehicle designed to capture and grow capital and insulate it from estate taxes and dissolution through death. It has all the attributes of a living person and few of the drawbacks. It survives and grows through its management and production/service activities, but it's main purpose is the acquisition of capital, or growth, just like any other living creature. What it does, who does it, and how it's done are factors in achieving that purpose. The bailouts do not seem to be working so far as the credit markets remain firmly frozen. Time will tell weather Obama is correct. I personally think that these businesses should be allowed to enter bankruptcy. We have a huge legal system currently in place to handle large bankruptsy matters. This problem began because of government - government has not historically proven to be good at running well...anything. I have no confidence that govenment is the answer to a problem that they created with the mortgage mess - which caused the credit freeze which trickled to the automobile industry and on and on and on. That is just my opionion - not worth much - just an opinion.

Nephew Update: The little guy is still in NICU. They took out his feeding tube for awhile but it has been put back in. He is not suckling hardly at all. His problems are caused by my sisters gestational diabetes. All of the tests have been negative. He is still under the lights for jaundice. His level was 18 and has only gone down to 17.5 so far. They sent in a speech pathologist to look at him, I guess she will help teach him how to suckle?? I dont really know. They have switched him to soy formula as he was vomitting up all the regular variety. He now has a bleeding butt from diaper rash. My sister is just beside herself! I think he will be fine eventually - he just needs some support in the hospital for awhile longer. Thank you everyone for keeping him in your thoughts and prayers! I hope to be ablet to get back to Colorado to meet him soon! -

Fanny – Thank you so much for posting the photos! They are so neat! I really enjoy learning about other cultures. Tap – My husband is from the beach – Corpus Christi Texas and does not like seafood. I am an Army brat and love it! Glouster – I agree with you. The person who does more should receive more no matter their sex or any thing else. My daughters pulled that same no answer stuff with their cell phones. It drove me nuts! You did well by driving over to see her! EbonyRose – I am so sorry you are having a difficult time at work. I have heard a lot more of these types of things happening with the economic downturn. It seems like employers are looking extra hard for anything to complain about. I hope it resolves soon! It is so stressful especially since we are usually at work the majority of our waking hours! I also agree with LuLu – document everything because believe me they are documenting about you! That is standard HR procedure – document, document, document. This way if they try to fire you , you could have some recourse. {{{Big Hugs}}} BethFromVA – I am also into genealogy. I found that my fathers grandmother was from the Ingalls family. Also I found free black and mulatto relatives listed from about the 1700’s. Pretty cool! I love doing the research. It is sooo fun! Babygrl – Sweet Dreams!! Plain –You intimidate me all the time! HA! PJTP: I met two ladies tonight who have recently been banded at Starbucks. (I met them at Starbucks - they are not performing surgeries at Starbucks...yet) The contacted me on LBT. They were really nice and I enjoyed our chat. Both of them told me I look like Marg Helgenberger. I had to look her up when I got home. Hahahaha -
No workout today.

Yes you will! It is a nice feeling! I am wearing 12's now but I do not think that will be for long. I must carry my weight in a weird way because the scale says 194 this morning. My co-worker weighs 160 and she is barely in a 12. My 12 are a little loose so that is odd. She is about 2 inches taller than I am - I am 5'2" and she is 5'4". It just goes to show you how it is difficult to compare one person to another!
-
I hope you can get the reflux resolved! That sounds awful!! {{{hugs}}} Awesome! Good Luck! Great! You are going to be so happy this time next year! I am on Facebook too! Send my a pm and I will add you! It sounds like you are too tight. You should not have to suffer through rough days! I am pretty tight right now too but an able to eat regular food but not much of it. Just about 1/4 cup probably. I cannot eat many things either. Yesterday I had a cheese stick mid morning and some lentil soup for lunch and just a cheese stick for dinner. I had one protein drink that kept me feeling full yesterday evening. I am able to drink lots of water with no restriction which is a good sign. Even with eating so little I am not showing any losses on the scale this week. I have exercised so I hope to show some losses soon! Good Luck!
